JANUARY 27, 2007 "PAL MICKEY" Western Magic ROLL CALL

Hi All,

This is our first cruise ever. Celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary (ages 51 and 47). Kids are staying home with grandma. This is the honeymoon we never had. We are staying in a Veranda Stateroom (no cabin number yet). Doing the Romantic Escape package, couples massage, sight-seeing at Key West and Grand Cayman, snorkling at Cozumel and parasailing at Castaway Cay. Hoping to get a Palo reservation. They are all out of online reservations :-( Just learned about Pal Mickey from this thread. My wife and I can't wait to go. Hope to meet some of you on the cruise.

Welcome!! Leaving the kids behind?!? Lucky you!! You won't know what to do with yourselves ;) ;) You should have no problems getting a Palo reservation once you get on board - everyone says that there are lots held back for people who can't get them online. Have fun planning - I think that's half the fun!!

Cheers

Hey everyone.........we just canceled a Palo ressie for dinner for 3-4 adults on Cozumel night so if anyone wants it.................... :moped:

It is with much sadness that my MIL and FIL will no longer be able to join us on this cruise. My FIL has experienced some major health problems and no longer feels comfortable away from home and his doctors. My Husband bought this trip for them as a way to thank them for all they have done for us and he is so dissappointed - if we could have only done it sooner :sad1:

I have not yet cancelled their ressie but plan to do so by next week so as not to incur many more penalties. I called DCL to see what my options are and basically we will incur a $500 penalty from Disney and then we have one year to file a claim through Access America (the insurance company). We have to give them medical information from my FIL doctors and then they will refund the $500 minus the $198 processing fee. It looks like we will have only lost $198 at this point. I have cancelled their excursions already, and the Palo ressies.

Another thought I had.............we have adjoining cabins and now some strangers will end up next to us...............I think I may ask DCL if I can change our cabin number, not sure if we will be able to at this late date. I have heard that adjoining cabins can be loud if you have noisy neighbors (we might be the noisy neighbors :rotfl2: )

Also, both of my Palo ressies are for 3-4 adults so I hope I can change them to 2 adults when we board the ship so we don't get the extra $$ charge.

I too am so sorry to hear about your FIL. I hope everything will work out. I made the change to your listing on the site and message boards but on the cruiser list I left the two adjoining rooms as I don't know which you will keep. Keep me posted of the changes and I will make the appropriate updates. Thanks!

taftd - WELCOME David and Kaye! I have added you to the cruiser list on the boards and our Pal Mickey Gathering at Sea website. Check the first post of this thread for the links. We are so pleased to have you join us! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry - I didn't get the thread notification or I'd have offered my prayers and thoughts earlier.

Thanks for the info! I made the change to the list.

BTW - I found a thread for this cruise on Cruise Critic. There were only two posts:

paunali - travelling with a 14 yr old and a 4yr old. First time on DCL.
c*est moi - Family of four, two girls 6 & 4. First cruise.

I don't recognize either from the DIS but I posted on Cruise Critic to tell them about our website for this cruise, and they can reach this thread from the cruiser list. I will not add either to the list unless they give me permission. ;)

Msaseifert, sorry to hear about your FIL hope he gets to feeling better soon, I'm sure they were very disappointed to come to that decision, you will be in their thoughts the entire time your away, and vice versa.

Also welcome to our new cruisers, taftdb, since it will be your belated honeymoon, if we can find you at all on-board, we will probably find you at the adults pool most of the time!! :rotfl:

In less than 2 months we all will be shakin' & bakin' in the Caribbean!!

Hi Kaye!

Congratulations! You are going to have a great time! I think I may have a Palo ressie I am going to cancel...Monday at 9:00. Let me know if you would be interested.

Does anyone know if I do cancel, and she wants it, can Kaye grab it up right away or is there a chance that someone else will? If so, can I keep it in my name and just have David and Kaye show up?

Beth

If you do not personally cancel your res, your shipboard account will automatically be billed the Palo charge. If you cancel, I do not believe they can hold the res for anyone. They have to release the res before it can be booked again, and I can only imagine how many would be online to scarf it up within 30 seconds. But anything is possible, so it wouldn't hurt to give it a try either online or by phone. If you call, you will probably need the reservation number, full name and stateroom of the person you are attempting to transfer it to. The reason they may not allow that is because whomever you would transfer it to would then be responsible for the Palo charge. No harm in trying though!

Hi,
We just plan on going to the Aquarium on our own. I think I read somewhere that you can do the Pirate Museum on your own for cheaper - I think there are coupons on the Key West website.

Cheers,

Just wondering if anyone else is booking the Pirate museum tour for Key West thru DCL.

We did Pirate Soul and the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum on our own this past January and it wasn't a problem at all.

Prices on your own:
Pirate Soul - $15 for adults, $8.55 for children under 10 (at the door)
you can buy tickets online in advance for $13.50 for adults and $7.00 for children (www.piratesoul.com) or you can purchase tickets through

Shipwreck Historeum - $10 for adults, $5 for children 4-12, under 4 free

Disney is charging $31 for adults and $16 for children for the two and I really don't see the reason for the extra charge. It was very easy to do it on our own (easy walking distance, etc.) and I preferred not having to meet a certain schedule.

We didn't do the Shipwreck Historeum, so I can't comment on that, but Pirate Soul was pretty cool.

We also took the Old Town Trolley tour on our own and they offer discount tickets for local attractions:

Pirate Soul: $13.95/$7.95
Shipwreck Historeum: $9.00/$4.50

The Mel Fisher Maritime Museum was kind of neat with lots of historical treasure from sunken ships.

Here are some sites with more details on the different sites in the pirate tours:

Of course, I'm also planning to check out the newest addition to the Pirate Soul Museum - the Rum Barrel restaurant complete with Rum Bible (as opposed to a Wine List- the Rum Bible is available as a 30 page .pdf on their website). :drinking1 http://www.piratesoul.com/rumbarrel I checked out the food menu too and it looks pretty tasty. Where else can you order a Octopus Hot Dog for your kids? :rotfl:

Can you tell this is on our list of things to do? It's also a great place to pick up pirate stuff for pirate night during the cruise. pirate:

My kids already know about the cruise, but it would still be cool to see their face when Mickey calls.

Thanks binky and disneyscout I checked in our passporter and the Pirate Soal and Shipwreck Hist. is both quite a bit cheaper if you buy on-line. We will probably do that. They also said the Old Time Trolley is a better deal if you purchase tickets direct because you can get on and off the trolley and sightsee at your own pace. If you order the package thru DCL you don't have the option to get off and back on again.

Thanks guys and gals I think the kids will enjoy the pirate stuff and disneyscout, I agree that the Rum Bible sounds like a good read!!! :drinking:

Also what is this WPASADI game all about?
