January 23, 2010 Sailing with Mickey on the Magic! **The Crusin' DISers**

Just called DCL to get an update and was told they don't know yet if the port call will be changed. They need a report from GC first. I am calling back in a day or two but they were very aware of the situation. Had a lot of calls I guess.

Thanks for posting that....I was going to call too, but will now wait.

Hmm... I heard about the earthquake. I'll take a double dip instead of another port... hehe :)

"Quake rattles buildings, nerves in Cayman Isles

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (Reuters) - Buildings and homes shook in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the Caribbean hedge fund center, but there were no reports of injury or damage.

Minor temblors are common in the region, but Cayman residents were mindful of the 7.0 earthquake that devastated much of the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince a week ago.

"The whole building was rocking," said Junior Elliott, 30, who was delivering water bottles to a four-story office building near the harbor in George Town, the capital.

"Everybody scrambled, trying to get out. They couldn't use the elevators, so they went down the stairs."

The earthquake hit 30 miles southeast of Grand Cayman Island at 9:23 a.m., Cayman Islands Chief Meteorologist John Tibbetts said.

"I have heard no reports of any damage in Grand Cayman. There have been no calls to 911 or Hazard Management. It appears to be just a shaking for us," Tibbetts said.

Some phone systems were temporarily out of service but the quake had not caused major disruption, residents said.

Under Cayman building codes, homes and commercial structures must be built to withstand hurricanes as well as earthquakes. Grand Cayman lies just north of a very active fault line called the Oriente Fracture Zone, which roughly follows the northern edge of the Cayman Trough, the deepest part of the Caribbean Sea.

Grand Cayman experienced a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on December 14, 2004, just three months after being devastated by Hurricane Ivan. But that earthquake caused only minor damage to some home foundations and swimming pools.

What's with all these kids? Don't they know we have plans ;) DD just started complaining about her throat being scratchy, @#$%&*! She is just over an ear infection and we are going to the Dr. on Wed. for a recheck...fingers crossed and thinking healing thoughts :upsidedow

Wow - I am really feeling for all you parents of young children and trying to keep them healthy. My baby is 19 now and in her second year of college, so Mom and Dad are going on a Disney Cruise without her! LOL. She is very jealous. We love the parks and this is only our second Disney Cruise. All the ear infections and puking is just a fond memory to me now. My DD spent the better part of one park trip in our room - DH and I took turns going to the food court for chicken noodle soup and an occasional run to Space Mountain! Good luck and don't forget to take care of yourselves too!

I just signed onto our reservation planning page and it's 4 days till our cruise!

See you all soon, travel safe! :wizard:

I'm leaving work now to go home and pack my carry-ons. Going to bed early tonight for my 8am flight tomorrow so.....I'll see you Sat. on the ship!!!!

Everyone have a safe trip to port :goodvibes

:dance3::dance3: Doing the happy dance! :dance3::dance3:

Safe travels!!! It's finally here! :cool1:

:rolleyes1All my bags are packed....:rolleyes1

Well, almost. All clothes are folded and ready to go in the suitcase, won't stuff them in till the morning. Still have to clean out my purse, and that could take as long as all the packing!:lmao:

I'll admit things are a tad easier with no formal wear this time and I think I'll be able to leave behind my sweater and make do with just the shawl.

One major problem....I DON'T HAVE A BOOK TO READ ON THE PLANE! May have to go to everyone's desk at work tomorrow and beg for one. I suppose I could break down and buy one in the airport, as waiting for the plane will be the first free moment I'll have between now and then.

See you all on the ship!

.

Just finished packing 2 bags & 2 more plus carry ons to go. Came on here to print my FE list and realized my room number is wrong!

PinkandProud Room 6630 NOT 6632, please make note.

Sorry for the confusion. I know I've checked and double checked. But oops on my part. Sorry!

Super excited. Now, for the weather to cooperate. We are having terrible rain storms here, which is so unusual for Southern California!

Praying for sunshine and warmth! 2 more days & a wake up and we'll be boarding the Magic!

Thanks for the update! Might mention it at the meet on Saturday too, in case some have already left and don't check the boards...

Dang I am impress by your packing skills!! 2 bags and 2 carryons!! I am trying to keep it down to 4 bags and 2 carry ons. Of course, if I were just packing for the kids and the DH I could do it in 1 bag, no carry on! :lmao:

We went to WDW in November of 08 and got a cold snap. I ended up wearing the 1 sweater and long sleeved shirt ALL WEEK! Not going to happen this time!

Kelli, I have the opposite problem. DH and I were supposed to share a suitcase and the kids share another. Well, DH has packed like a girl :bride: and needed a whole huge suitcase for himself! Now I am squeezing the 2 kids and myself into the other one. :sad2:

See you on the boat!

Thanks for the heads up! I will change it on my list. :)

Can't believe it! After all the planning and counting down :) it is finally here! So excited to not only go on this vacation but also to meet all of you on Saturday.

We fly out tomorrow morning and will just bum around, take in some sights, etc. Just gonna chill  (yeah right!).

Have a safe flight, drive, ride to the port everyone! See you soon!

Just completed the online check in. It's storming like crazy here with rain & 60 mile an hour winds. The lights kept flickering and I kept loosing my connection, but it's done! Yippee!

Kelli, I packed 2 huge bags, have 2 more huge bags to pack and then carryons! Thank God for Southwest, our undies fly for free! lol!

Safe travels to everyone!

Jackie, thanks for reminding me about a book. I'm headed to the library this morning. I have a favorite author I've been saving for the trip. If you like laugh out loud humor, I love Janet Evanovich. She has a numbered series and her in between books are good too. Really funny to read. If you pick one up, make sure you get them in the right order. I didn't know that and have had to play catch up. I like a guaranteed good read!

One more day & a wake up! Can't wait! No sleep for the excited!
