January 2020 Discounts

I think we can all pack up our tents until next Tuesday...
I am with you.... Iam thinking Tuesday also... hopefully we are wrong and its sooner . I want to get off this roller coaster ride and get on with my life!

Oct 3 2017 it released on a Monday - yes I looked that far... in 2012, it released on Oct 6
The last 4 years they were released on Tuesday, Wed, or Thursday. Going back to 2015 never any other day.

Is it always released at 7am EST? what if its CT time time this? - yes I"m grasping here.
Has anyone called Disney to ask if there is anything?

In 2015, the general public PSD and room-only discount was released on September 28 which was a Monday. There had been a VISA discount released the week before. I think we might have a chance on Monday!

This seems like they are really taking it down to the wire. For January bookings, people are 3 mths out and February 4 mths out. That seems like a really small amount of time to plan a Disney trip! I am trying to be patient, but I feel like cancelling my trip and saving all my money at this point 😨
I also am thinking the timeline is getting tight for discounts to have much impact on resort occupancy rates especially in January 2020, which is less than 90 days away now. That seems to indicate Disney is pleased enough with the bookings they’ve got. It seems logical that some kind of discount will come, but I have a feeling it will only amount to throwing us a bone

I like that logic!!!

The room only was released on the 24th for visa cardholders

I was thinking this same thing. But if you go back to 2015 when it was released Oct 6th it was 10-30% of rack rates. And then look at 2016 when it was first released 9/24 it was 10-25% off. Not a huge difference but still higher with the Oct release. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason with what they do.

Exactly! The VISA discount was released the week before. Then a gen pub discount came out the following Monday. Maybe we'll see the same thing this time.

if the public is for 30% off Riveria and nothing else, going to cancel our trip! C'mon SPD deals! sheesh!

Someone on the boards was right - this is cutting it close for Jan fast passes.

I am beginning to agree with you- although they still seem focused on trying to get people there in the fall! but the discounts have never been this late- i dont think it is a good sign😞

I am surprised that they still have this fall discount as their primary. Even if discounts are released, it seems they will probably be very small 10-20% on already increased prices. My brain is telling me to cancel but my Disney addiction says just keep hoping lol

My brain (or is it my heart?) keep doing something similar to me. I know good and well I will pay far less money and have much more spacious and luxurious accommodations with something I find on VRBO or Airbnb as compared to a Disney resort. Yet I have an itch to stay on property this time and maybe splurge on a dining plan... if only Disney will meet me somewhere in the middle. Oh well, it will be an awesome January vacation either way.

exactly! I've already booked my flights - got a great price! But you're right, if something good doesnt come, I might have to stay *gasp* off property?! It'll be a first in 3-4 years, but I have to be mindful of expenses - especially if I want to return for 2021!!

they were release 10/6 in 2014 for Jan 2015

Regardless of the CM's saying it's too early, we can see from historical discounts that we're right in the norm for the release time frame. However, I'm thinking Disney may be playing games like they did with the current fall discount. If you look at the release dates for the 9/1-12/24 offer out there...it hit about a month and a half before the start date. We also know this release date was way off from the norm. Ok...I say way off, but I recall a few Nov trips where I was booking my room discount in August...so, there's that. And while there was a Disney Visa discount that hit the day before that one that covered most of September, there was no Disney Visa discount wrapped into that 9/1-12/24 stuff...at least, according to Mousesavers. Based on this, if we see anything, it seems entirely possible to see no Disney Visa discount and we could be waiting until some time in early to mid Nov for whatever we might get.

I have family that just returned from Disney last week and they experienced very low crowds while they were there. They didn't go for the new Star Wars park but they said there was hardly ever a long wait for the Millennium Falcon ride and Hollywood Studios in general was not crowded. Their travel agent said to them that Disney is having a difficult time filling rooms/resorts, that has me thinking that they'll continue to release discounts...We have reservations the last week of January, I'm holding onto hope :) ..they have been released as late as 10/6-10/10 in the past!
