JANUARY 2017!! **CHECK IN!!

Just got back from a great trip to Disneyland over the weekend and I cannot wait to go back in January now! We've officially decided on Hojo for our stay.

January calendar is open through 1/4 . Another day, another January calendar day open . :rolleyes1
Is DL really going to release the January schedule 1 day at a time !?!?! :confused3:faint::rolleyes2:sad2:

I wonder what the delay is ? Is this normal for DL to release the schedule a day at a time ?

Yes this how DLR has done it for the last few years. It feels so slow and so close to the trip.

I'm thinking about booking a character dinner for the night we arrive in California (not a Disney day). I'd love opinions on Goofy's Kitchen versus Disney's PCH Grill. We've not been to either one before!

**Edited to add, I just saw that PCH Grill doesn't have character visits during dinner. Does Goofy's Kitchen?

Yes Goofies is only one that has characters at dinner time. :)

Well calendar on Jan 9th is very limited-no parades, only WOC. Some added refurbs too.
https://disneyland.disney.go.com/ca/calendar/daily/?day=20170109

Those refurbs are what I was expecting for January 9th. JC and HM are going down to remove the holiday overlays , and GRR I figured would be going down for refurb sometime in January .

Still waiting for the unexpected refurbs that may pop up ............ hopefully NOT though !
Also wondering if there will be ANY parades is mid/late January ???? Paint the night is going away again it looks like , and MSEP will prob not be ready to go yet .

Time will tell I guess. Guess we all have to take it day by day now ! :scared:

We just got back from a week in Hong Kong. We spent one day at Hong Kong Disneyland! When I was walking through the park, I thought to myself, this must be like what WDWers feel when they walk through DL, lol!. Some things were the same, but a lot was different. We got to see PTN - glad that we had a chance because it won't be around in January, right? The best ride was Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars. It does something that I've never experienced on any other Disney ride. (won't spoil it here.) IASW was different in that they changed the order of the areas, and had an underwater area (with mermaids) and I think a rainforest area. Plus they didn't sing the song much - it was just the melody without words.

We went with friends so went at a very relaxed pace. Much different from our DLR touring style! Our January trip will be different from our past DLR visits as we'll do one park per day. It'll be weird to not be able to hop. Will have to plan a little differently (and probably skip the attractions we rode in Hong Kong.)

We've changed hotels and will now be staying at the Embassy Orange, so we're able to use ART instead of driving. Yay! We've never done ART before; where do the buses drop you off?

Also, I'm assuming based on all the terror stories I've heard about driving in, that ART is preferred. Is that a fair assumption? Or is it just as much of a hassle to do ART? It's about the same cost to park vs. ART for our family...

Has anyone heard about WOC for January? My husband and I are thinking of going over 14-17 or 15-18 which is the race weekend but I haven't pulled the trigger on hotel or flights because I can't find any info on WOC. I really wish the holiday one was going to be going but assume it will be down by then. I am not interested in the show they had going for the 60th celebration and don't know if there will be any fireworks but would like some kind of evening entertainment even if it's only one night. I can get a deal on airfare today . . . need to make a decision.

Well so far , The schedules have only been released until January 11th (tomorrow will be January 12th, and so on) .
Up until January 8th World of Color "Season of Light" will run , as does Paint the Night and "Believe in Holiday Magic" fireworks. Plus the daytime "Christmas Fantasy parade".
On January 9 , and beyond (up till the 11th, so far ) . World of Color returns to its normal show . I would assume it will run this way throughout January.
But ...........
No more Paint the Night, or Fireworks listed so far after the 8th .
No daytime Parade after the 8th as well so far .

Hope they come up with something !
Main Street Electrical Parade would be nice . At least there would be 1 parade running !

The 60th WOC ended with the 60th (thankfully-I didn't care for it) in september so assuming that the holiday show will not be running you should have the regular WOC. we had the regular one in October.

Party of 2 Jan. 8-13!! DLH first timers! Will just be my 6 year old son and myself. :)
I'd love to hear how things go - I'm hoping to replicate your dates, but in a year (e.g., the last Sunday of holiday stuff to right before Star Wars race in 2018) - with my daughter. Okay, she'll be 20, so it's not quite the same, but it's the crowds, weather, general stuff I'm wondering about.

Hope you have a fantastic time!

We are staying at same hotel! :) first time there, but nice because 2 pools-1 being indoor.

We have ridden the ART on every past trip (3 so far) & love it because it saves time, and $ and drops off as close as you can get to park-pulls right up front Disneyland in bus drop off area. :)

I was just looking at routes to/from Embassy orange. It will be route 14 which will run buses every 20 min. Download the app. You can buy tickets for ART discounted at getawaytoday.

We don't usually get rental car until we check out of Disney-since don't need it & wont use it much while staying in parks-no need to pay parking at hotel & also theme park.

The buses drop off in the big shuttle areas on harbor about a football field or 2 walk from the security lines. There are many different routes, and it could be hit or miss on how dependable and timely it is. You can also usually buy multi-day discount tickets for ART. The only downside is some routes only run at certain times with certain frequency, so you may need to plan well or have to wait a while sometimes. If you aren't on a tight schedule and it's not a packed bus, they can be a good way to go.

We've never been to this hotel before but it looks great! I didn't know that you can get ART tickets discounted - I'll have to check that out! This will be our first time renting a car. I got a really great deal so it's about the same that we would pay for a shuttle for the 7 of us... but the parking fees at the hotels are pretty lame. :-(

Thanks for the info! We won't really be on a tight schedule so I'm ok with waiting a bit, if it means a lesser hassle than trying to fight traffic.
