January 2013 car rental

Used Dollar website with no code under city specials for Orlando and got a mini van for 7 days for $167. plus taxes and fees came to $232...

Gosh! I booked an economy from 1/10-1/14 for $66 with tax... tried and tried to get 1/9-1/14 but adding that ONE day brings the rental up to over $240 bucks!

Sigh

What company?

Dollar has a much better deal for a minivan for early January than Alamo. However, when you add a spouse as an additional driver, it's no longer as good of a deal. Any way to get around the additional driver charge?

Looks like Alamo. When I check for those dates, get the same. May now just return the car early to Dolphin instead of keeping til Tuesday and keep for 4 instead of 5 days. Will save $100 and can just take ME back.

$298 plus taxes and fees (so more like $400 all in) for a 9 day, 9 hour rental (economy car) out of Sanford Jan 25-Feb 4! Can anyone offer/help me get a better rate? I have a Costco membership, Budget discount code, and I've heard something about a VISA discount? Any chance we would also get the 2nd driver for free?

Any suggestions on an alternate game plan to bring down the price? We need a car to get us from Sanford to ASMu on the 25th, then in the parks for a couple of days, KSC on the 29th, and then would need a car again from Feb 1 - 4.

After at least a week of all sizes being over $300, Alamo really dropped their rates for my dates today. I've got a midsize for $127 for 1/12 at 10 am to 1/19 at 8 am, using the insider code and the visa $30 coupon. Check your reservations again!

I'm still at $159 for 1/24-2/2 for standard. I'm not complaining, but even a little drop would still be great!

My rates with Alamo just went down!

I got a compact rental for 1/10 - 1/15 with airport pickup and return for $114 with tax.

That's using the VISA discount and the Insiders contract ID.

My previous best was a Premium rental for $161.

Thanks for the info on the VISA discount code. I just saved $40 by switching from Dollar to Alamo. One quick question, if someone knows: With on-line check-in or check-in with the kiosk at the airport, you just go pick out whatever car you want that is in the aisle of the car size you reserved, right? Alamo does not assign cars, if I remember.....

FYI - Got $120 for midsize for 1/12-1/17/13. Actually saved $47!

I've always used the kiosk and always picked my own car with Alamo. I love that option!

I haven't followed the whole thread but was looking if anyone can help me find some low rates. 1/31 11am leaving 2/6 4pm-ish. MCO

:worship: I just got the Alamo/visa discount for a 15 passvan for 2 weeks for 670.00!!!:cool1:

My rates for January 25-February 3, are still high.

I feel like I should jump getting a rental now since it's a good price. Problem is that DH doesn't want to get a car and wants to rely soley on Disney transportation. Gotta twist his arm a little more ;)

If I book now, will I get a refund if/when we cancel? What's the normal policy? TIA:goodvibes

Mine too...for the 21st-28th. I lucked into a rate back in October for a compact $107.50 all in through carrentalsavers with Advantage, which looks pretty good given most of the rates I've see on here (and what they are now). Last year, same exact dates, we used Alamo for $77 and change all in for a Standard. I'm still holding onto my dwindling hope that the rates will drop to something comparable so I can use Alamo or National this trip.

Rental reservations don't require upfront payment--unless you select a "Pay now" option or book a name your price through Priceline, to name a couple of examples. So you can book and cancel as frequently as you like.

AFM....I was all set to stop looking since I got Alamo $116 for Intermediate. Then I went to CostcoTravel and found compact at Avis for $83 including taxes for my 5 days 1/10-1/15!

Things change a lot, so I wouldn't rule out a drop yet. In the meantime, you might try a one day rental from Sanford to Disney, then a week long rental from Disney to Sanford. Check Alamo, use your Insider ID (sign up for free),Costco contract rate, Visa coupon AD2338FDF ($30 off week). Can drop off or pick up at Dolphin or Car Care Center. This prices out for under $300 total.

My rates with Budget finally dropped yesterday for my trip Jan 22nd to the 26th, I have a one way rental pickup at MCO, with drop off at Port Canaveral (cocoa beach). Cruising! YAY!
Rates had been $295 total for a standard car, they finally dropped to $175 total and I booked it. Since it was a short rental with no weekend day I had no codes or coupons that applied to that rate.
I'm hoping those of you with late Jan trips see your rates come down soon.
