January 2012 Car Rentals

Prices starting to come down some for my dates (beginning of Jan). Budget has intermediate cars for 8 days at $294 w/ AMEX code S208200.

My dates are 12/30 - 1/7, picking up from MCO.

Just tried some other codes at Budget and got an ever better rate! Using the Expedia public BCD X474200 and the $30 e-coupon code MUGZ029, I was able to get a standard SUV for $270 before taxes. :goodvibes

Wow - I just plugged these in for 12/31-1/5, and it knocked $100 off the cost of an economy car from where it was when we looked a week ago. Brought it down to $195, or $264 including taxes/fees.

Now, if only my MIL had taken my advice and not locked herself into a $300 rate a month ago... :sad2:

I just Pricelined for Jan 9-13. I got Avis and bid $25/day for a standard car (ford fusion or similar)

Are there any January/2012 coupons out yet for National? I've not seen any, but haven't looked too hard. The rates are dropping, so that's always good. I just can't believe that there are no coupons out yet for 2012.

Ask and you will receive. Right after posting this, I got an email for a new National coupon that's good until Feb.

$35 coupon (code: ND8598AAP)

Plus my rate has dropped for my week (Jan. 18th 10 nights)

Wow did you overpay! You've locked in a rate that is higher than I've ever paid anywhere in the US. I swear I won't rub it in when I pay <$120 for a midsized for 8-days in January.

3 days 17 hrs that doesn't include a Saturday stay I couldn't get for under $248. I tried numerous coupon codes but the majority do not work because its under a 5 day stay. I tried my USAA discount as well as Visa and others. Just showing others if they have a short stay $25/day is a decent price to pay.

I was a little bit hasty with my post, I was actually looking at the amount you saved ($238.10) and though that was the price you're paying. The no over Saturday is a killer for car rental prices.

Just modified my Alamo rental. Used an Insider coupon for $40/wk off and the Costco member ID and now have a compact car for $69 tax included! I only need it from Jan6-Jan10, but the rate was a weekly rate (since it is 5 days).

So keep checking Alamo. Even their non-Costco rate was down under $100.

I also just got a great rate through Alamo using my Insiders discount, $40 coupon and Costco member ID - midsize rental for $95 with all fees included for 1/14 -1/20. I was originally booked with Payless for $138 and they are not located in the airport - very happy to go with Alamo at such a great rate!!!

I am going the same time. How did you get the $40 coupon? I am also an insiders member. Did you book through Costco?

I put in my Insiders member number, Costco ID 7015309 and $40 coupon code given to me here on the boards AD4027JDO. Worked like a charm!!

I am an idiot.....which boxes did you put those codes? LOL I get $134 for the standard car. Is that right?

My alamo e-mail offered me $35 off per week, so after logging in and getting the insider discount, I am getting a full size for $131 for 8 days and 7 nights.

That saves over $50 off my Enterprise rate.

Can't seem to make the $40 off coupon week. Says it conflicts with my dates of 1/1 - 1/8.

Oh well, this is a great rate!

Where it says "Optional Rate Information" - the Costco ID goes in the ID/Corp ID box. The coupon code goes in Coupon Code box and your Alamo membership number goes in the Member ID box. I think $134 for the standard car was right.

Finally found a better deal! And I had almost given up hope.

Originally had an economy with National for $282 taxes in (using AMEX code). Then booked via carrentalsavers.com and got an economy with Enterprise for $259 taxes and fees included. Shortly thereafter, prices went sky high for our travel dates (Dec. 31 - Jan. 7) ... in some cases over $700 :scared1: .

Just for fun, I ran our dates on Expedia.ca yesterday. Snagged a midsize car with Dollar for $162.16, all taxes and fees included (and in Canadian dollars no less, so no exchange or conversion fees to pay :thumbsup2 ). My 6' 4" DH is much happier with the larger car, and I am MUCH happier with the price!

Just saved another $36!!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Expedia.ca rate for our Dollar midsize went down to $125 all taxes and fees included. I was able to cancel the original reservation without penalty and rebook at the lower rate.

Makes me want to do a little dance! :cool1:  :cool1:

Yay! I saved about $15 more dollars today. We're down to $240 for a 14 days rental.

I have a question as I've never rented a car with the costco discount. How do they know your costco card is valid? Do they have a way of scanning it? Because it doesn't have an expiration date on it and I've had the same card for at least the past 3 years, and the card hasn't changed. I guess this reminds me that I need to go in and ask when my expiration date is... I think it's in the spring, but I don't even remember. And I'd hate to get up to the counter and find out it's expired :)
