Hey!

This is my first thread so I don't know how this is going to go.

My DF and I are getting married on January 16, 2010 and are wanting to have our honeymoon at WDW the week of the 17-23. While she is planning the wedding, I'm taking charge of planning the honeymoon to relieve a tiny bit of her stress. I've found a lot of helpful advice on the Boards, however I've never seen any sign of a guy on here! : ) I guess there should always be a first!

We're planning on staying at the Grand Floridian (hopefully in one of the turrets!) and are going to do the Deluxe DP.

I'm just wanting to know what are some good ideas and advice for a couple's trip to WDW in January? What's going on during that time? We like to swim and do the water park scene. Will we be alright doing that? (Take into account we're from the Dallas area so we're used to a fairly warm climate.)

I really just want to start something where people can just throw ideas out there for things to do at WDW during January.

Thanks for your help!

First of all, Welcome to the DIS. Second, I took my honeymoon, and stayed at the GF, almost 10 years ago now. It's a GREAT place for it!!

My first bit of advice is that, while on the trip, don't be shy about telling everyone that it's your honeymoon. The CM's may not be able to offer more than congratulations, or maybe sometimes they can offer more, but you'll never even get the congrats if nobody knows! ;)

Second, if you're food and wine lovers, and have the money to do it, plan a dinner at Victoria and Albert's (with wine pairings). For my trip, I even packed a suit and tie JUST for this dinner (not sure it's required, but I wanted to "do it right"). We did this on our first night there and it was amazing! It's expensive (I seem to remember our bill being about $300 with tip for the two of us, and that was 1999), but provided a memory I'll have forever. :cool2:

Third, try to make sure you leave the room at least once each day.

For swims and water parks, I don't know much about that, especially in January. I think one of the water parks may be closed during that time for annual refurbishment, and the weather can vary some with highs usually in the 60's (though could be as cold as 40's with lows below freezing).

I'll let some of the ladies chime in with romantic ideas, since I'm just a simple-minded, (former) beer-guzzling guy.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and honeymoon! We also honeymooned at Disney, I can't say enough good things about it! For us, it was the best trip and more than what we could have hoped for. We stayed at AKL in November, but I have visited in January as well so I can tell you a bit about the weather during our trip.

First of all, I agree with what was already said, you should tell everyone it's your honeymoon, you never know what special magic will come your way!! There are some cute Just Married pins you can pick up once there and wear them as much as you can. We had everything from "congratulations" from the CMs to being pulled up to the front of a line at some rides (twice). I think we even got a free Coke at one of the stands. :goodvibes

Try to check out the Wedding and Honeymoon board on DIS, you will get a TON of great ideas on how to make your trip special and romantic.

Regarding the weather in January, I've visited 3 times, most recently in the month of January and that was when we had our best (and warmest) weather.

I would bring everything from shorts to jeans and bring some warm sweatshirts as well. I found that the days were really nice, but I wanted something warmer to put on at night. During our honeymoon it was so chilly we had to buy jackets and I was so surprised because I never thought I would need one. I feel like it gets chilly at night and when you are sitting there watching the fireworks it's really noticeable.

Keep reading DIS and you will have so many ideas on what to do your head will spin! (in happiness) :upsidedow

Thanks for all the advice! I will add all this to my portfolio of ideas! : )

Keep the stuff coming!

I also heard about using the Bride and Groom Mickey hats and getting special attention. (However, I may keep this idea away from my DF because I don't know yet if I want to be walking around with that on. : / But I bet when we get there the Disney carefree attitude will set in and I'll give in.)

Thanks again! And let's add some more!

we're doing our honeymoon there a couple weeks before you!

I've been in january a bunch of times and it's my favorite weather b/c I prefer my florida on the chilly side. I have gone swimming in January, but only in the heated hotel pool.
The last year we went, it was actually colder in FL than in NJ which really sucked, but what can ya do.
I wouldn't go to the water parks. We were cold in October.

I found this article: http://www.getawayweddings.com/articles/article-details.asp?ID=30 with a bunch of romantic things to do.
but I don't think we're going to do any of them, lol. Our problem is we don't really like the fancy romantic stuff. Last time we were in Disney we had the most fun trying to get our pictures with as many characters as possible.

Any advice for honeymooners who act like 8 year olds?

Haha! My fiancé and I are just the same! We are more into doing the goofy, child things. Also, thanks for the link; we probably will still have to do some romantic things.

Thanks for the waterpark advice too. And I also want to know more about acting like an 8 year old on your honeymoon at WDW!

On our trip in Jan of 2006 my husband (then boyfriend) proposed during the Wishes Fireworks Spectacular at MK. We had a wonderful time and I would recommend late Jan to anyone. We never waited more than 15 minutes for any ride. If you're looking for some romance, I would suggest wandering the Epcot world showcase at night. That was my favorite.

Thanks for your help!

1. Photopass photo shoot at Grand Floridian
2. Dinner at Bistro de Paris or Citricos
3. Illuminations cruise
4. Dancing at Atlantic Dance Hall
5. A night at La Nouba
6. Fresh Flowers delivered daily to your hotel room by Disney Florist
7. Dinner at the Castle
8. Victoria and Alberts (I like chef's table but any table is awesome.)
9. couples massage at Saratoga Springs

Hopefully some of these suggestions help.

We LOVE going in January! Great weather (if a little chilly at times), low crowds, etc.

There are lots of suggestions--including a link to the DIS's romance page here!
