January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

we wanted to throw our name on the list

Jan 24th - 30th
Pop Century

Any idea when we can get prices from Disney?

This is our first trip in Jan..most time we go later in the spring or fall so I am hoping the lines will be non existent :)

WELCOME! :goodvibes

It's just like Jenny said - the rates come out in early August, but last year the specials didn't come out until November. So we are stuck waiting. . . . . :hourglass

As far as the lines, we were surprised. We really expected them to be pretty much non-existent, but that wasn't really the case most days. We did experience one pretty slow day at MK (it was only 50 degrees out) and then one pretty bad day at DHS with lines like we never saw on any other trip. The crowds the rest of the days were somewhere in-between. But we went to DHS on Fantasmic day and to MK on Spectro day, and when those things are only happening 2 days a week it is going to be crowded! We sure won't do that again!

I think going a little later this time (further away from MLK Day) and with a little better planning things will be better! :wizard:

We went the week before MLK day last year and the lines were pretty much non-exsistent. Some rides we were able to stay on the ride and ride twice.
This year we are going MLK week- I am hoping the crowds will be non-exsistent too. But are you saying it was busy last year during MLK week? Like how busy???

We arrived the day after MLK day (on a Tues) and stayed for a week. We went to MK that Tues evening thinking it would be empty (it was very cold) and that we would catch some rides before Wishes. Well I think we did 2 rides. The lines were significant. We went back to MK on Wed at opening (the high was only 50 that day - so it was in the 30's that morning) and it was a very slow day! Thurs we went to DHS. :sad2: What a nightmare!! It was packed! Like I've never seen before. Brazilian tour groups everywhere, and just crowds in-general everywhere. For example - Star Tours has always been a walk-on on our past trips. The wait was nearly an hour! So things like RNRC and TSMM were over 1 1/2 hour waits. Fri we went to AK. It wasn't too bad in the morning. Not crowded, but certainly not empty. It got busier in the afternoon. We went to MK on Sat afternoon for Spectro, it was packed. Sun we were at the Boardwalk for dinner and thought we would walk over to Epcot for a few rides that evening. Got there and Soarin was 90 minutes and TT was 30, so we got in the TT line and waited well over an hour and then we just left. Mon we got to Epcot at opening. It was fair, not crowded, but not empty. Overall I would say that our May trips were less crowded. But like I said before - we went to DHS on Fantasmic day and MK on Spectro day, so we will not do that next time! We did enjoy the January weather and not being so hot the whole time. Since the kids weren't dragging from the heat like they normally are we still got more done, even with larger crowds.

Hope that helps!

I hope it isnt busy in Jan...we picked Jan over Feb due to how busy it was last year..what day is MLK next year I will not go anytime around any holiday ever again :)

Last year we went for a 4 day weekend on Valentines Day and it was so crowded..luckily they did some awesome EMH and we ended up staying in MK till 3 am..
It was great! it was hot which was a surprise, it rained at around midnight and we are riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad..everyone was screaming and having a great time..we get off the ride drenched to the bone..
we didnt plan on getting on any wet rides but ended up jumping on Splash Mtn since we were already wet..

I LOVE your siggie - Chip and co! So cute!!

I cannot imagine staying out until 3 a.m. I'm guessing you didn't have toddlers with you!

Oh, that's going to be so fun!! our DDs were 11 mos and almost 3 when we took them for the first time. There was a lot of OOhs and AAhs and finger pointing! It was so cool to see their reactions to things. I felt like I was seeing it all for the first time again. (my first time was only about 5 years before that!)
The little one was so afraid of the characters (not the face characters so much). I have a great picture of her crying at Chef Mickey's when he got too close! (that sounds mean doesn't it?!)

Question - so last January there was a perk for a 200 disney card?

Where could you use it? Was it just for gift shops? or could you use it in Disney restaurants as well?

Just wondering. I hope they offer the same promo as last January.

Thanks!

:banana::banana::cool1::cool1:

Yes! The $200 gift was for booking your trip between Jan-March? I think. We had it in January and you could use it for pretty much anything! We used our for souvies! :)

Wow- I am kind of bummed we planned our trip for that week now. I thought the crowds were low in all of January. :-(

We used our card to tip and we bought a Tinkerbell costume for DD. It was so nice! Hoping for another on this year!

Ours went to all our tips - the draw back to doing the Deluxe Dining plan and having great sit down meals! We also used this for a special drinks with our meals that were not part of the dining plan - I think we had 5 non included drinks in total so they were OOP and the gift card came in handy!

Have a wonderfully romantic trip!!!!:goodvibes

I was bad and went shopping today but it's okay the shopping bags are already hidden and DH will never know! :rotfl:

I hit the local Disney store and got a few things to stash for Christmas...for DD I got an adorable pink hoodie with the princesses on the back and a Minnie shirt/short set. For DS I got a Wall-E Tshirt. I also got some cute character plates for the kids on clearance for $1.12 each!!! Maybe they'll eat their veggies now!

I've got a secret stash of Disney stuff, myself. Mostly just outfits for Belle and one for myself. ;)

Although we are in absolutely no way "snowbirds" (They're called "Winter Texans" here in Corpus Christi) we'll be at WDW 1/5-11/10. My sister and I are running the half marathon. It's perfect timing for me 'cause my last semester of nursing school starts on January 13! I'm so excited and can't wait to get things "official" in August!!

Not only is this our half marathon trip, but it will be the first trip for my 14 year old daughter and my husband of 17 years. In fact, my husband is making a special trip home from Iraq just to watch me run. Of course, this is all crossing our fingers that everything falls into place and there are no problems with him getting that exact time off. He's such a great guy because he should be coming home forever in February/March of 2010 so taking an R&R just 6 weeks before he's home forever is a BIG deal. Man, I hope it works out for him!!

I think we've narrowed it down to POR. Still looking but I think we'll be happy with it.

Thanks so much! I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only extremely excited person around here!

Wow! That's awesome! I hope it all goes well for you. Thank your hubby for his service. It has to be so hard without him, you are making a big sacrifice too. Please know how much we appreciate it.
I think you will find a LOT of excited people around here! :yay:
