January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

I would love to go to NYC. I would hit up a bunch of shows on Broadway, some museums, F.A.O Shwartz, Macie's(thanks to my love of the original Miracle on 34th St), and a Tiffany's (thanks to Breakfast at Tiffany's).

drakes, that sounds like pure heaven right about now. I would love to be parked in one in Rocky Mountain National Park. We used to go to Estes Park, CO every year when I was older and it was pure heaven. I would just sit for hours on a boulder listen to my CD player and watch the stream flow by.

ok DH vent time.....

So last night my DH came into our bedroom to get ready to go to sleep. I had just brushed my teeth. My DH looks at me and says "I hope you didn't brush your teeth with your toothbrush b/c Darcie (our cat) knocked it into his litter box. I didn't know what you wanted to do with it, so I just put it back." OMG, I was so mad!! I kept having to remind myself that there were laws against me killing him. I kept telling him that since there was a trash can right there he could have thrown it away and that I had already used it. Since I was already in bed with my contacts out and glasses missing again, I left the toothbrush to deal with today. So, I went into the bathroom as soon as I drop the DS's off at school and toss it in the trash can that we have in our bathroom to use with the kitty litter box. Later DH was getting out of his interview clothes (he had a job interview) and he was laughing about how I had brushed my teeth with a toothbrush that had landed in kitty litter. Well I live about 45 minutes from my parents and my Dad has lots of guns. Everything from an elephant rifle to a "Dirty Harry" hand gun. I call my mom, so I can talk to my dad, and my dad picks up my mom's cell phone. I was like "Dad just who I wanted to talk to. Can I borrow one of your guns to put a hole in your son in laws rear?" His only response was "sounds like you need to talk to your mom." I start telling my mom what DH did and DH starts laughing at me, and says "Your tooth brush never fell in the kitty litter, I was messing with you." When my mom heard that she wanted me to go get my toothbrush out of the trash and wash it (yuck!!) I said, "but mom it's the trash can we use to empty the kitty litter in." She said, "yeah sounds like you just have to buy a new one."

I'm so annoyed with him right now I could just scream. I swear he better get this job, so I can continue to stay home with the boys and go to WDW in January. Ladies cross your fingers, toes, and pray hard. If he get this job he'll make at least $21.65 to start, and the possibility of getting a 5k raise with in 6 - 8 months.

Shawna, if you do want to go to a Broadway show, and want discount tickets for it, go to the Times Square area and look for a booth marked "TKTS" in big red letters. They sell half-price, day of show tickets. For matinees, usually Wednesdays and Saturdays (sometimes Sundays), the booth opens at 11 AM, but you generally should line up around 10 (kinda like Fantasmic! :rotfl:). For eveing shows, they open around 2. You can get some really good seats for some really good shows.

Two things to realize, though: 1) Half price tickets are still expensive - they're generally between $50 and $80 each depending on the show and the location within the theater.
2) They take CASH ONLY. No credit cards, no checks (except traveler's checks). So make sure you have plenty.

Oh, and don't buy any of the tickets people sell by going up and down the lines. Many of those are counterfeit.

We love Broadway - there's nothing like a Broadway show! We've gone for years; both H and I grew up around NY and went as kids, and we still travel down with our D (or at least we did before the economy tanked.) TKTS is how we get our tickets.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the TKTS tip!!!!

Letthewookiein~ Ha!! I was rolling---I hope he realizes that at some point you are going to HAVE to get him back? Let a little time go by so he forgets the toothbrush thing. It's gonna have to be really good because that was just terrible!! If you can't think of anything truly rewarding....maybe up your resort at Disney;) I would KILL Mike if he did that, and yes, he would know that payday cometh!!! Thanks for the laugh, I needed that today.

OT: okay, I don't know if I told ya'll already, but Kipper (the 10yo) played Little League for the first time this year. He plays at home with family and has always been really good. In fact, I was thinking his first year would probably be way better than our older sons first year---he shows real talent. Anyway, first game of the season, his first time up to bat, 2nd pitch-THWACK!!!! The ball knocks him in the side. It was hard. we heard it in the bleachers....he had a perfect baseball imprint for almost 2 weeks---you could see the ball's seam on his skin!!!! Well, needless to say, he freezes every time he gets up to bat now.Walks or strike outs. He has been miserable. Well, last night was our last game and the coach let them play whatever spot they wanted, so he picks 3rd base coach. They are having an awesome game, and they are all having a blast. Well, he gets up to bat and has 3 balls, 2 strikes...we are yelling, just swing, it doesn't matter. WACK!!! He hits a double!!!! Then later he stole 3rd, then made it home. It was awesome. God is so good. I was praying he would help him to be able to at least hit it. i didn't care if they got him out at first, just as long as there was contact. So, his last game ended on a wonderful note and they won by 1 point. Every parent on our team and every kid made a big deal and we were all screaming just for him. It was awesome. So, just wanted to share a mommy moment---I know ya'll would appreciate it. Especially since we have some true baseball fans here!

Oh he will pay in the form of a MK view room at the CR on the Atrium Club level, and the DlxDDP. I want to take at least $1,000 in spending money. Then I'm thinking either a Coach swingpack bag I found on ebay or a Vera Bradley one that I like.

Sounds like a wonderful game!! I'm glad that he was able to get over his fear and make contact with the ball.

We sold the house today. We actually sold it for more than asking price, so we are very excited and thankful. Did I mention we just put it on the market last Thursday? God is good!

We signed the execution contract (???) this afternoon and we should be closing at the end of June. We have no clue what we will do and we don't LOVE anything on the market right now, so I guess we will be at my parents a little longer.

I'll keep you all posted. At least I have something big to keep me busy instead of obsessing about ADR's all summer.:lmao:

Congrats on selling so soon!

Yay Kipper!! We're trying to get Drew (our 6 yr old) to be a little more assertive in baseball. He hits ok (it's coach-pitch) but if the ball comes to him in the field, he just stands there and lets someone else get it. I guess at least he "plays well with others." :rotfl:

It's been an exhausting day. We saw Night at the Museum 2 (VERY cute)! Then we went to the neighbors for a BBQ and some adult beverages. After dinner the men went downstairs to survey how the basement-finishing was going...well, Keaton went down with them and was running and tripped and hit his face on the concrete. His lip is swollen and his nose is bloody, and what's so awful about it, is he is a mild hemophiliac, so he sometimes doesn't clot properly. Although he is sleeping and doens't seem to be bleeding now, we will be standing vigil thru the night to see if it stays that way! So I need lots of prayers tonight that all will be fine and we won't be making a trip to the hospital to get an infusion! <insert deep *sigh* here>

Poor Keaton! I will definately keep him in my prayers tonight. Poor little guy.

Hello Snowbirds!

We had a great weekend of sun and relaxation!

Hugs, thoughts and prayers to all for healing and helping those in need.

To now actually talk some Disney talk- I am surprised how uncarzy I am about this Jan 2010 trip. Maybe I don't beleive it, maybe I am still exhausted from planning the 2009 trip? I am starting to feel behind and stressed ??? :confused3 I think because this time last trip, I had so much reasearched and planned.

I really want to do a PTR - but after reading others I don't think mine will compare, but I was thinking doing a PTR will keep me on track and the free advice on here is great!

Have a great day everyone!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!

I kept saying I was going to do a TR, but never found time. I'm not as organized as I like to think I am. But if doing a PTR would help get you organized and excited, I say go for it!! It doesn't need to be award winning prose - I would read it! I read lots of them just for fun.

Yesterday was DH's b-day. We didn't do much. DD6 got a fever on Saturday and cough/cold, so we've been keeping her on the couch watching Disney movies :) She's better today - no motrin since last night! I'm hoping now she'll just have the cough - since tomorrow she has a field trip with her class to the zoo. I'd hate for her to miss it! We had two tickets to the Twins game for last night and were planning to buy two more and all go (general admission). But since DD was sick, DH took DD8 and went. They had a blast - bought foam fingers and all. Plus the Twins won (with a grand slam!). Meanwhile, DD6 was asleep on the couch by 7. Missed the whole game.
Hope you all are having a good long weekend (for those that get it!).

I'm not even bothering with a PTR this time, considering I'm not planning for this trip as much as the last one.
We only have 3 ADRs, and I know my family won't take nicely to me telling them where to go and when. I am going to attempt to at least make some suggestions, but who knows how well that will go.

I wish we were staying on the property, because I'm worried about how convenient the Hotel Plaza buses are going to be. Oh well... I'll be fine because I'm going back to Disney.

That's looking on the bright side!! :thumbsup2
I keep worrying about trying to cram all the holiday stuff in three days and the MVMCP crowds, but I keep saying the same thing. It's DISNEY!!!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone!! I have done absolutely nothing today but read!! I am going through reviews and getting ready to order school books for our next year. We have already had 3 weeks off, but with extracurricular activities, this starts our first week of NOTHING TO DO!! HA!!! I am planning (very slowly I might add) our upcoming NYC trip. Dern those hotels are expensive! That just makes Disney look better all the time!!!

Drakes~ I think you are having a hard time because we are going into summer! It just seems soooo long away. Especially if we can't do ADRs until the 90 day mark!!! Mike told me Friday that he really wants to do December...so I guess I will not be a Jan snowbird, but a Dec one! Well, gotta make a new ticker!! We are deciding between the CR and the BC. I need to plug in some dates and see what the difference is gonna be and go from there. Hopefully our flier miles will be sufficient and we won't have to pay for tickets. That would be awesome!!! Especially if we are about to shell out for NYC!!!! Airfare alone is gonna be around $1500. I am shocked---he may say just forget it! Ha! Keep those tips comin! I am at a loss on the hotel thing.

TRUE!!! I keep forgetting about MVMCP!!!! I love that!!! :santa:
Hows your dd today? Tell her we are thinking about her! You are definitely gonna have to do ropedrops and late nights!! You can rest when it's over!:rotfl: That's what i tell Mike and the kids and Mike always says, I thought that's what vacation was for? Is he kidding?

We really did rest more the last 2 trips. That extra day makes allllll the difference. But, if I only had 3 days, I could still do it. We are Disney-troopers!!!!

Yeah, when we get on the cruise ship that's when I am going to relax!! I think you should come in Dec. We'll be there the 6th to 10th. We're staying at BLT, so you should stay at CR and then we can meet up again!! :)

Sounds like a plan to me!!! Do you think that 2nd weeks gonna be really crowded? I was looking at the end of Thanksg. weekend to come in and stay that first whole week. But, I know it's hard to predict---the Unofficial Guide or whatever it's called is calling for what I consider higher crowds that week as well!!! Do ya'll use any kind of touring plans or crowd predictors?
The 4th of Dec. is also Saylors birthday. this will be his 3rd trip on his actual bday. Which, as you can imagine is starting to cause a little bit of :scared1: between the kids. I will push it back a week just to keep the other 2 from feeling like its just for his birthday. but, if it's logically (crowds/weather) better that first week, we'll do it. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! the trials of parental/vacation planning!!!!:scared:

That week is Pop Warner too, but from what I've heard, they don't affect the parks that much. We were all set (and booked) to arrive the Sat. after Thanksgiving, but we couldn't get our cruise for that week, so we moved it all a week later. I have heard that it's not super bad crowds, like it would be for the actual holiday weeks. The Christmas crowds get bad about a week before Christmas. Maybe we'll catch a little lull! I can't imagine the weather being too different in one week. I had a friend give me her TGM crowd level predictions for our last trip, but otherwise we just go and wing it. His advice is good for if you avoid EMH parks in the evenings or go to the park that had EMH the night before. I found that to be pretty accurate. We did not do evening EMH on our last trip, but we may this time given the short trip.
