January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

I'm really excited. My parents are coming into town for graduation, so my Mom is taking me shopping for an outfit tonight!:woohoo:
I've been really shopping deprived lately since Logan and I have been trying to be really good about money.
Also, we've only gone to see my parents a couple times since January, so I haven't been able to go out with my Mom.
I might even be able to convince my Mom to buy me a few non-graduation extras.:rolleyes1

Since summer is upon us and my brain is tired of fretting all things Disney, I thought it would be fun to have a QOTD.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SUMMER TREAT (snack)?

OK, I love drumsticks, I do eat them year round however.

So something that I have ONLY in summer....ROOTBEER FLOATS!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

XXXX
Well I hope everyone is having a great Friday so far. This is my only few free minutes for the day. I'm leaving to get my hair chopped, bank, post office, work 2-Close then after the store closes we have to do a set up for our new ad that comes out tomorrow, somehow stick laundry and maybe eating somewhere in there, but after I get home tonight...I'M ON VACATION FOR 3 WEEKS!!!!!!!!! I leave Sunday for my RoadTrip! :woohoo::cool1:

Have a great day everyone!

Happy Friday!:flower3:

It's funny that we all like drinks. I like chocolate flavored snow cones with Eagle's Brand milk poured on top.:thumbsup2

Hello Snowbirds! :cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

Joni--we're all praying for you! :grouphug: Keep us posted when you can.

Wow, I've been away for a while and had many many pages to catch up on! :surfweb: It's fun to see so many Snowbirds planning their next trips back. We've been busy getting ready for the big move to Belgium. Last Friday we dropped off the minivan at the port in Baltimore so it can embark on its "transatlantic cruise". Then this week, the packers and movers came and loaded up almost all of our stuff and sent it on its way. So we're camping out in the almost-empty house for about a month  After sleeping on an air mattress for just the past two nights, I know I'm going to be VERY happy to have my own bed back! Well, it's an adventure, right?

Last night the boys were asking about Disneyland Paris...when we're going to go, how it's different from WDW, and so on. They're really excited about it. It was one of those great moments in parenting when you know you're doing something right! :thumbsup2

QOTD...boy I've missed those!

My fave has to be a snowball with marshmallow in the middle. I also love those freeze pops I get for my kids. Good thing they come with 100 in a box because I eat 3-4 at a time. I like for them to melt a little first. Yum:cool2:

I'd have to say s'mores! My parents have a fire pit (the ones you can buy at Target, etc) and we always have to make s'mores! We don't always make traditional ones though. We sometimes bring out a bag of chocolate chip cookies and put the marshmellow inbetween two of them. Delicious!

That is such a hard one. I think mine would have to be either nice cold watermelon or S'mores.

Ok, so I'm sad about something that I think only people on the DIS would understand. The other day I convinced my DH to take me to a nearby mall that has a Disney store b/c we were close by at the time. I told him I needed a Disney fix since I had not been to WDW since October 2006. When we went in he noticed that all the ceramic mugs were on sale for $5 and told me to pick one. As we're paying for my new Mickey Mouse mug, my husband laughed as he set it down and said "Yeah she's a bit of a Mickey freak." I think he said this b/c the person that checked us out (who happened to be the manager) seemed it find it amusing my difficulty in picking a Tink or Mickey mug. So I say to my DH, "Honey I'm sure she loves Mickey too. Afterall she works for Disney." Which that got us into a long discussion that ended with her telling me she needed to hire 4 new people and giving me an application and telling me to bring it back asap. Then after she hired me, she would go over all the good CM discounts. Well I so excited about the thought of being a CM and working for Disney in some form that as I walked out of the store I had goose bumps, and had tears welling up. My DH was even excited about the discounts. We started trying to think if this would work or not. Almost 3 years ago I stopped working b/c my sons behaviorial problems made me late to work and made me either miss work or had to leave early. About 1 1/2 yrs ago now, we found out he didn't have ADHD, but mild Autism Spectrum Disorder and Epilepsy. Well if they were in school it would be no big deal. However school is about to be over and I don't think I can risk leaving them home even for 5 hours (4 to work and at least a 1/2 hour drive each way). I have an 11 year old as well, and he's at that age that he thinks he's the total boss of his brother. Once I got to do the stay at home mom thing, I never thought I would want to go back to work. That is until I found out I could work at a Disney store. Now I'm bummed....no Disney CM for me.....and no Disney discount.

Awww... I'm sorry you can't get the job.

I wish there was a Disney Store around here, because I would totally love to work there, and the discounts would be nice. The stores around here would give me discounts for things I probably shouldn't spend money on... well... at least as much as I would...

That's a bummer that you can't take the job. I totally understand though. My oldest has ADD. I have been at home with my kids since late 2005 and it has been such a blessing.

There are days I think about going back to work. Sometimes I miss getting dressed in nice clothes everyday and having adult conversations  and using my brain! But my work here is much more important.

We have a Disney Outlet at our mall. I have asked them if they were hiring a few times, but they have a hiring freeze right now. Good thing, I'm not sure what I would do if they ever offered me a job anyway! I may check in the fall when school starts back up. . . Even then it would have to be less than 20 hours a week.

Well, I have to admit that I'm a traditionalist - my favorite version is still 1940 with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier (I know - the youngsters among us are saying, "Who??"). It, too, has that line of Mr. Bennett's in it; I'd be willing to bet that it's in Ms. Austen's original (which of course I never read!).

I actually watched Becoming Jane night before last. Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors ever. I love the Greer Garson one as well!!! I have the P & P with Keira Knightley as well. Yes, Mr. Bennet did make that quote in the book.

My favorite summer treat....wathermelon, fresh tomatoes & cucumbers...lemonade anything cold!

Adult conversations are overrated... then again I guess you probably couldn't call the people I'm around everyday adults. They're mostly college students.:sad2:

I worked for the Disney store way back in my early college days and loved it! I never did get to use the free ticket to WDW they gave me though  and I pretty much spent my entire paycheck there so it wasn't really the best job for me. I could imagine how much I'd spend working there now that I have kids:scared1:

All in good time perhaps:confused3 Right now you're where you're needed the most. Perhaps Disney will save all of us jobs for when we're ready to retire as SAHM's. I've been a SAHM since 2004 (only now I have extra kids that I happily send home at 5:30) and it's the best decision I've made. DS and I just watched Sleeping Beauty while the younger ones are napping. Boy I'm going to miss our special time together when he starts school in the fall. :sad2: Maybe when both of mine are in school and a little older I'll give up the home daycare and get me a job at the Disney Store:cloud9: I always tease DH that I want to move to FL and work for Disney. Perhaps the Disney Store at the mall is the closest I'll get!

Is anyone making plans to take their kiddos to see the new movie UP?
From the previews it looks really cute!

Drew really wants to see UP and he's been talking about the Gerbil movie (I can't remember what it is but we've been seeing the previews for it and it's DISNEY).

QOTD-my favorite summertime treat is probably fresh produce, especially warm, ripe tomatoes...add a little basalmic, fresh mozz and basil, a little salt and pepper...mmmmmm. I'm a lttle bummed that since I quit my job (new one starts Monday) that one of my work friends won't get to bring me all the stuff out of her garden. At times last year, she'd even bring in a bunch of cantloupe and cut it all up for each of us and leave it on our desks! AWESOME!

I tell my DH that I want to move to FL so he can work for Disney (he's an IT guy working on his 2nd master's an MBA). That way I can do the SaHM thing, and while the kids are in school spend my days in the parks. Then I would take my nephew for the summers and hit the parks with my boys and him.

You know, I've totally forgotten about that movie. This summer is such a good summer for movies. Demons & Angels, Terminator, Transformers, Harry Potter, Public Enemy (Johnny Depp and Christian Bale), Ice Age, G.I. Joe, I could go on. I think we'll be spending our summer in the theaters. Luckily this time I see Transformers I won't have just left the foot doctor with my big toe in a bandage b/c I just had my toe nail removed b/c I had broken my toe and not treated it until it was too late to save the nail. Long story, but that taught me to never kick my DH in the shin when I was mad at him.:lmao:

My hubby's working on his MBA, too! Sounds like a good plan-move to Fla, let him earn big bucks working for Disney and I'll "stay home" with the kids. :rotfl2:

Love it!!! :rotfl::rotfl2::dance3:

Two whole days with no rain!! It's been absolutely beautiful here. Got up in the 80's today. Drew had field day at school so I went to volunteer-I can't believe how much being in the sun just wipes you out! I am so sleepy. And now we get to go to his little league game. The poor boy is going to be so tired and crabby! He's already mad at me because I won't let him go to a buddy's house to play tonight. I paid too much money for him to be skipping too many games. We've already missed 4 or 5 due to rain, and once because we had tickets to the Cardinals game!

Hope you all have a wonderful relaxing weekend ahead of you!

QOTD (was it yesterday?) I have so many treats - but watermelon and roasting marshmallows are a couple. We have a fire pit in our patio and roast a lot! Also Brats on the grill (tonight's dinner). Just isn't the same cooked inside in the winter! Another is corn on the cob slathered in butter, usually at the county or state fair! Around here we really only get it in July/August.

We have a Disney Store at the Mall of America. It's a dangerous place. :)
If I didn't already have an almost full time job, I'd love to work there! Maybe someday we can all retire to Orlando and work at WDW!

Kimberly - hang in there winter girl!! It's mid May, summer is coming, really!!!

We are DEFINATELY going to see UP next week. We always like to go the day that it comes out for some reason. Maddie and I got to TONS of movies over the summer. We see things 2 or 3 times at the theater!
