January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

OMG Meghan I heard on the radio about the crash while I was driving in to work. I had to log on immediately to check on you. :grouphug:

Thank God you are all right. I thought of you instantly when it said near Buffalo. Then they said a woman and child got out of the house but the husband did not. I was so nervous!! What a horrible tragedy!

Me too - I'm so glad you're okay. :grouphug:

Thank you all for your care and concern. My older sister and BIL live about 10 minutes from Clarence Center. She's very shaken by all of this. They haven't released victims names, but it's been confirmed that 3 people who worked with my BIL were on the flight. It's a horrible day here in Western New York. The house that was hit was owned by an elderly couple. The husband was killed, but the wife and their grown daughter are ok. I don't know if you've heard, but a 9/11 widow was also on that flight. I don't mean to be a downer, but it's all I can think about right now. Thank goodness I helped at my DD's school this morning and I'm going back this afternoon. They had their Valentine's celebration already and this afternoon we're celebrating the 100th day of school. Seeing the kids all happy and excited takes my mind off this tragedy. Please keep the families of the victims of Flight 3407 in your prayers and thoughts today.

I haven't been on the boards for a few weeks, but when I heard of the plane crash this morning, I had to get on here and check on Meghan. Meghan - I'm so glad you're okay. You were the first person I thought about this morning.

Thank you for your concern. It really means a lot to me that all of us Snowbirds care about each other so much. If anyone wants to be up to date on the latest news about the crash, you can go to wgrz.com. It's the news station that I always watch. They have a lot of information, pictures, live news feeds, etc.

DH was scheduled on Continental this afternoon from Rochester to Newark and Continental changed his flights to American through O'Hare. I'll feel a lot better when he gets home. :scared:

Oh Quick Question (I miss the QOTD by the way. We should reinstate those!)

Is anyone on here also on Facebook?

I am on Facebook - I am very new to it but it's fun!

I'm on there too! It's way to addicting..:rotfl:

XXXX
Meghan, I'm glad that you and your family are ok. I heard about the 9/11 widow on the plane...that just breaks my heart. Thoughts and prayers are with everyone out there.

XXX
So how about another QOTD..unless I missed one, if I did then save this for another time..."What is your most favorite thing you bought in Disney?"

I bought a Sorcerer Mickey Hat! I love Sorcerer Mickey, so I used Christmas money from Grandma and bought it! I'll never wear it again, but it will sit nicely on top of my desk next to my framed picture of me with Sorcerer Mickey!:goodvibes

About Facebook....I have an account and I started the Snowbird group. If you want to find me, send me a PM and I'll give you my name and network.

Thank you again everyone for your concern about me. It truly is the worst day for WNY, but we always rally together during bad times.

I haven't watched the news and didn't know anything about it until reading it on here. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved and affected. I can't imagine.

Meghan I'm glad you are okay!!!! Just reading and listening to some of the stories it is a horrible tragedy and I'm for one have the entire area in my prayers as they work through it!!

Trixie, I will be praying that your DH gets home safely!!!

Good morning everyone. As Sheree just mentioned, a plane did crash in the Buffalo area last night. I live about 15-20 miles from that area. I'm still in utter disbelief right now. That area is 5-7 miles from the airport. It feels like a bad dream. The pictures that are all over the local news are shocking and unbelievable.
Megan, I too thought about you. :goodvibes

QOTD..What is your most favorite thing you bought in Disney?
Every trip I buy a photo album for my pictures. I should have bought two this year.

I got my picture taken with Sorcerer Mickey, too! All by myself - that's when I knew the Disney bug had truly bitten, since I HATE having my picture taken.

Hmmm....great QOTD! My favorite souvenir is probably my Minnie ears - white polka-dots on a red cap with a daisy popping up and my name embroidered [we had to get the embroidering done at DHS - my friend made a special trip back to pick them up]. I *almost* planned my next Disney trip based on the fact that I had to find somewhere to wear my Minnie ears!

Thank you. It's been an absolutely horrible day.

Megan, I too thoguht about you. :goodvibes

Thanks!!!

On a happier note....QOTD- I bought a few frames that I can't wait to put pictures in. I also bought my first scrapbook (the sparkly blue one with 2009 on the cover) which I can't wait to fill with memories. I really enjoy my Minnie headband as well. It's very cute.

QOTD... we always buy a Christmas ornament.. we have many Christmas trees... so I can buy for many more years before I fill them up!!!

I just finished putting together some lanyards and making some autograph books for my Mom, Aunt and friend Pat for our May trip.... I posted some photos in my PTR... they turned out cute... next are the t-shirts!!!

Meghan, Glad you and your family are safe! What a horrible tragedy!

QOTD: In the last few years, we've bought scrapbooks, then a large multi-pic frame...none of them have anything in them! I'm TERRIBLE about printing our pictures! So my hubby got a cute little Mickey frame. It looks like he's holding an easel (sp??) and the pic will only need to be wallet sized. surely I can print something out for that!

OH I forgot, we got a Wishes CD. That's probably my favorite. I listen to it every day!!

QOTD: I got my ornament that I wanted. It's Mickey ears with Mickey laying on top and it has the year on it.

I wish I would have bought the Wishes CD! I had it in my hands two different times and put it back. I am definitely getting it next time. I'd really like a CD with the music from all the fireworks shows - Wishes, Fantasmic and Illuminations. Does anyone know if there is one?

DD7 had a sleepover b-day party last night. It was a little weird b/c it was at someone's house we don't really know - it's a girl from her class. I just met the parents yesterday. But I know another girl who was there, and her mom is pretty protective, so I figured, if she was going it must be okay. I'm going to go pick her up soon. Since she hasn't called, everything must be going well - right?
Since she was gone last night, we thought we'd take DD5 out to eat and do something fun. But she has a cold now, and is coughing. She just wanted KFC (!) and to watch a movie at home with popcorn. Well, okay that's easy! So we watched THe Princess Diaries 2 (love those). It was good, b/c it's cold and windy, and since we've been back from warmer weather, I feel wimpy about the cold! It's normal to be a high of 28 now, but it seems like it did when it was below zero! Anyone else from the north feel this way?

Oh - to keep me in my Disney mood, this is my new desktop background...

This was after our CP breakfast and the park wasn't yet open! No people! And it wasn't crowded at all that day!

I really want to try a CP breakfast before park opening, but we LOVE LOVE LOVE the opening show to MK. I guess we'll just have to plan 2 MK days so we can do both. I bet it is surreal to see Main Street empty!
