Hello Snowbirds!
I haven't posted here in a while. We finally told our kids about our trip last night (the last night of Hannukah) and it was a great success. We did a scavenger hunt with puzzle pieces which made a Guess Who's Going to Disney World? picture. We then watched the planning dvd. Now I don't have to be as secretive when I am reading the DIS! I feel like our plans for our trip are slowly falling into place. We are hosting a New Year's party so things will be pretty busy here this week. Hope everyone has a great day!

I see I've missed several pages while I was down & out. I have been fighting this cold for nearly 2 weeks now and then got the stomach bug Saturday night. I was in bed all day yesterday. My whole body still aches.

I read through briefly. Hope I didn't miss anything. . .

Crzyred - great news about your mom.

Meghan - sorry you had the stomach bug too. It is terrible.

I think someone asked about pressed penny books - I believe we paid around $7.

And someone asked about photopass CM's at the character meals - while there are not photopass photographers at the character meals, there are photographers at some of them. At Chef Mickey's and Ohana's (and probably others) they take your picture when you check in. Then they try to sell it to you during the meal for something like $30. But you can go to the photo place later (can't think of the name right now) at MK (on the right when you enter MK) even if you didn't buy the pictures and tell them the date and time you were there and they can find the pics for you and put them on your photopass card.

Yes, you can get them at home also put on. The CM at CM told us we could not but we did.

Hello Fellow Birds! I'm sorry that I don't have time to go back and read everyone's post. I'm trying to finish up all of my work today, so I can spend the rest of the week getting ready for our trip.

I hope all of you with the tummy bug are getting back on your feet.

I have a question:
How much does it cost to do laundry and does it only use quarters?

I will be doing laundry also. It was $2 wash and $2 to dry when we were there last. I bring my own stuff, but they do have a change machine.

My dad just called. Mom is coming home in about a half hour!

I however get to work all day. So I better go and get myself ready for that.

And I'm doing another little dance today.....SINGLE DIGITS!

Yesterday I went out to a local liquor store to buy champagne for New Year's Eve at a store that routinely cards people (as if I would ever look under 21 again!). And discovered that, unbenownst to me, my driver's license had expired! So I head over to the DMV today, get a new picture (another ) and get it renewed. Of course, it says on the temporary license "Not valid for identification." Thank G-d I got a passport last year; at least I can get on the plane!

Yeah, I went to renew mine today (it expires Jan 4 - or, 5, since it's a weekend) and realized, oh crap, it takes 2 weeks to get it. And I'm flying in 11 days. Like you, thank goodness for passports! I should have thought of that earlier...!

So, what kind of clothes should I pack? I'm thinking I better stick to jeans, long sleeves, sweatshirts, and maybe even a winter coat. Do I need gloves and hats? I just hate to keep up with all this stuff - my kids lose gloves on a daily basis - anyone else planning for the week of the 11th? What are you packing? ........

Hi Dianne! WELCOME to the DIS and to the Snowbirds!

I think we are all a little confused on what to pack. I will be taking a bit of everything - jeans, capris, shorts, short sleeves, long sleeves, sweatshirts, jackets, and gloves. I don't plan to take our winter coats unless it is going to be really cold though.

okay, keeping in mind that I'm from Minnesota...(no I'm not going when you are)
I would bring a light jacket, and maybe gloves for cool evenings. I would wear layers with a short sleeved shirt under a sweatshirt. You may get warm if it is sunny. Plus, the forecast is subject to change as it's more than a week away. I love capris, so I'd have a mix of capris and long pants. Of course, if it's above 60, I'm wearing shorts with my sweatshirt! I would bring maybe fleece jackets - especially for the kids. We went one year in Feb and one morning was so cold- we had them wrapped up in blankets because we didn't have anything warmer than light jackets. But it did warm up the next day. Hope it's okay for you!

Welcome to our group.

I don't know where you are coming from but if you are coming from a colder area, I would say that you won't need a winter jacket. I would also pick up some of those small stretchy thin gloves (sorry I don't know what the exact name of them are) and a ball cap or other hat to keep off the sun. I would also bring a few t-shirts and at least one pair of shorts or a skirt or a dress. A few pages back there was a link to a person at Disney now and she is telling us on how the weather is. It is hard to say how you will feel when you are down there.

It also depends on if you are driving or flying. I hope that you find the right combination for you and your family.

That sounds like a good idea! Grandparents love to hear about how they spend the money and pictures would be a bonus!
We did get a Wii fit, although we purchased it in August. The ads here are showing $90. They are hard to find, but they're around.

Thank you for the price. They are hard to find around here too!
I am hoping that they will be more available by the end of January. I can see where people will buy them for a New Years resolution to loose weight. If I can find one for around that price I will have to pick it up. It will still be cheaper with the exchange (unless the Canadian dollar keeps going down) than buying it around here.

My bets will be that we will definitely require a Part 5 for this thread. With all these Snowbirds going very shortly; I think we will hear from some of them about their great Disney vacations. I look forward to hearing the latest news from them. I would also think that those of us not yet going will still have questions and want to chat.

Good Morning Snowbirds.

I am having trouble with my computer and these boards. For some reason it keeps timing out. I think maybe it is more me than them.

Today is the day where I phone around for a price on new tires, oil change and brakes for our vehicle. We were hoping to put it off until after our trip but DH finally agrees with me that we require new tires. He found out with our last snow storm and DH was stuck in snow several times and took too long coming home from work. We truly don't wish to meet a nasty snow storm while driving down and have no traction. We read about an AAA service center at Disney and I will phone there and inquire about pricing about brakes. Up here we are taxed on everything and the labour seems quite high, so we were wondering how much they charged down there.

I was wondering if any Snowbirds have recently bought a Wii Fit. I am wondering if one of you southern Snowbirds (in the USA) could tell me an approximate price of one. We are interested in purchasing one but wonder if they would be cheaper to purchase one on our vacation than up here. Thank you for anyone that can help. I know you are all busy in your final moments of getting ready for your awesome Disney vacation.

Another question I have for those Snowbirds who leave before me is -If you see Rhino from the movie Bolt could you please post where you meet him? I think he is one of the characters I am most looking forward to meeting. Please don't flame me but I thought he was the funniest in the Bolt movie.

I just bought a WII the other day at Walmart. Just about everywhere around here (Maryland) is out of them. I was told they just can't keep up with the demand. After calling 4 different stores I finally tracked one down. The price for it was $89.99 and that was all the places I checked. No chance of catching it on sale!!! Good luck!!

Thank you for the warm welcome. We are from Missouri - not real cold, but not warm either. We are flying, so that does limit the packing options. I'll be keeping up on this thread and see how the forecast is for the entire week - thinking warm thoughts....
