January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part III !!!

I was told when I booked my room, that converting to a package was simple. Well Disney has messed this up. Supposedly my room only ressie canNOT be converedt to a package because they have NO MORE PACKAGES at my resort? Does this make any sense? I understand if they don't have the speacial free night package, but what do they mean they don't have any packages left?

I am ready to pull out my hair because I thought this was ALL taken care of and now they are saying they entered the order in wrong? They offered no concessions and left us with 2 choices Pop or AKL. I don't understand!

I am so stressed right now! Why did I chose to book on my own and why do they make it so complicated?

It really should be easy?

I am so worried, my flights are paid for and now I have nowhere to stay? and there is no concession!

DH is calling them back because I don't understand. This trip is going to be more expensive than I thought.

Someone please help me feel better about this decision!

I guess the sad tale I have is that my children will never have biological Aunts and Uncles...growing up I have had the best aunts ever and I adore them. Phillip was born to much older parents..he has cousins old enough to be his uncles. So he didn't have much experience with aunts and uncles.

I know the Lord will bless us with people in our lives who will make great surogate aunts and uncles and of course they will be spoiled by the grandparents..but still when other kids talk about aunts and uncles when my kids get older they won't have any. I think that is why Phillip and I are so insistent that if the Lord blesses we will have 2-3 kids.

Oh no!!! Hopefully after your DH talks to someone things will become more clear. Often all it takes is just hanging up the phone and discussing it with another CM. So I'll be sending a lot of pixie dust your way and hope for the best!

I sure hope it works out for you. I would think if you had a room ressie, they would be able to at least add tickets and/or dining whether you could get the deal or not, you should have a room! Good luck!! keep us posted too!

For me, yes it does still sting. My DH and I both are kids of "older" parents and we've both lost our fathers. So, our son doesn't have any "Papaws". Even though my mom is a "remote" meemaw, DS still loves her to pieces. He keeps asking if she's going to be at his birthday, because she's never been there. I will say, at least she remembers his birthday. She doesn't remember mine or my little sisters, but remembers the birthdays of the 4 older kids. She also doesn't remember the birthdays of my little sister's kids. The only reason she's seen our son is because we've made an effort to fly the 6-hours to the west coast at least once a year to visit.





ME TOO!!! (I'm a few years away, but as hard as we tried to have kids, I just know I'm going to love any grandbabies that come my way!!!

You know, in some ways, the bad times create more good times for someone else. My grandmother was the most wonderful grandmother amd even she recognized that my mother wasn't the "mother" type. Believe me, I could tell you stories!! Yes, my mother told me that my son's autism is my fault. I forgive and move on. I have vowed to pass along my grandmother's unconditional love and devotion on to my children. I think it has made me a better mother, so what if I had to suffer - my children are (hopefully) happier!!

Good for you - you totally have the right attitude. I would have a hard time moving on and forgiving, but I think it is the right thing to do and you sound to me like a WONDERFUL mother!! We are here for you anytime you (or anyone) need to vent!

Were you planning on adding the dining plan? That would be the only reason to panic, I guess. I have been told on the Dining Plan board that you can call 3-5 days before you arrive and tell them you want to add the dining plan and tickets to your reservation. It's absolutely possible that the packages with the discount are not available. I have heard lots of people moved to All Star Sports from Pop to get the discounts.

Go to the WDW website and look up packages there. If there is something available then book it yourself and then call and cancel your room only ressie.

Well Disney IT saved the day. Luckily DH got a male CM and described how much trouble he was in with his loving wife for what occurred 10 minutes prior.

IT restored our room only ressie and made it a package! The male CM did it in a matter of 20 minutes and did not know what happened with the previosu CM as I was correct the room was and should be easily converted to a pakcage, we just can't get the fre night deal because they themselves are sold out!

Wow for 20 minutes we were booked AKL with a total price increase of $1500.00 DH is still trying to sell me on it, so I will keep you posted.

Anyone know if AKL Standard View are all of the parking lot. I don't mind viewing trees or even the rooftop but I don't want the parking lot.

I have never been so stressed in my life! I have also never received so many different quotes on one vacation in the matter of 8 hours! Each CM gave a different price! Unbeleivable.

That is unbelievable. Well I'm glad you got it all straightened out in the end. I don't know why it is that we always get a different story with every CM. That's why I have always booked online. This was the first time I ever booked over the phone, and the only reason was because WDW was so late with their package offer.

My CM was very nice and helpful and got us all changed to the package offer and added our extra day to the beginning of our package, but when I got he confirmation he has us arriving on the 20th (which is correct) but being picked up by ME on the 21st. . . I guess that means yet another call to make.

The previous CM to that was the one that told me that we would have to retrieve our own luggage upon arrival because SW does not allow WDW to pick up our luggage, which it totally NOT TRUE!!

Yes apparently for our dates the free nights and gift card deal is limited to only a few rooms left.

But we were told after 40 minutes of arguing with the CM that we called too late and could not add dining or park hoppers to our room only ressie. I was told when we booked room only ressie that I had up to 3-4 days before arrival to add these things to our booking. Why would they not want to take my money for these things???? Makes no sense.

Anyhow DH is calling dining now to make sure they didn't lose our ADR's.

We did go online to geta quote and it usually freezes and we get kicked out. Pop, AKL and Camprgrounds were available for our dates but not quoting the deal of free nights etc??? I must be doing soemthign wrong!

I think I'll let a travel agent do it for me next time! I really wanted to do this right and was prepared for the cost with no discounts. Oh well we at least have a room over our head as planned, and now thinking about that upgrade- if it is meant to be it will be.

My parents are flying and I really need to find all this ME stuff out for them. Why must this be so confusing?

I started planning my days out of where to be and when to be there. This is harder than I thought!!!!
Spectro is only on Saturday and Monday the week we are there. (It's also on Thursday but we have Fantasmic ressie's that night). We arrive on Saturday and I can't decide if we should go to MK and see Spectro on Sat- our first night- or on Monday which is also EMH night at MK. Anyone know which one may be less crowded? I'm leaning towards Sat just because it will make our first night there more special seeing MK but it may be easier to leave the park on Mon if some stay for the EMH. Did that make any sense? I think I'm overthinking this.

Absolutely! That was the first store we looked for! I found a few T shirts, and my sister found lots of toys for her neices/nephews. If I lived closer, I would stop in frequently!

Ewww! Do you mean the whole 5-13th ? EEEKKK!!! We are the 8-18 and I really hope it's not crowded! That makes me so very nervous! I wonder if it is because of the marathon? I really don't mind where I'd have to stay as long as the crowds were low! Good Luck!!!

If you need to drop the number of people in the end I wouldn't even bother to call. They may want to change your time around. This happened to us in May with LeCellier. I had originally booked it for all 4 of us. Later we decided on taking the kids to the kids club. I called dining to see if I needed to change it from 4 to 2 and the CM said that he suggested just leaving it and telling them when you arrive. So that's what we did and we were seated right away!

Yes you can change it to smaller number a lot easier than add people. I went thru this a few trips ago when we didn't know if DH would be able to go or not since his boss was being jerk.

Thanks for this info! I originally booked our ADRs (except the credit card guarantees) for 4, since d's friend said she and her mom wanted to come. They're not coming, but I don't want to mess up my ADRs.

NO she is not going with us. I will not cut our trip short for her & Chuck says he IS NOT paying for her. SHe not only doesn't have the gramma gene she doesnt even have the mom gene. It hard for me because my mother is with my kids everyday & if she doesn't see them she calls them. Mil hasn't even talked to them since Sept. she only lives 20 minutes away!! She hasn't seen a single DD basketball game this year, didn't call about report cards or trick or treat. My other sister who lives in DC even called them about that stuff plus her 2 grown kids!! My niece that lives in Baton Rouge textmessages my DD at least 2x's a week to chat. HOnestly I swear I'm done venting!! BUt between this situation & my hysterectomy on fri I am about ready to jump outta my skin.

Good luck with your surgery! I had it several years ago. It took about 6 weeks to recover from the surgery itself and about 6 months to feel like myself again. If you want to vent, feel free to PM me.

One thing that Disney doesn, which I think is kinda weird, is block off rooms for particular lengths of stay. If I put in for the deal from 1/4-1/11, there are no rooms at CSR. If I put in 1/4-1/14, there are rooms at CSR. Doesn't make sense to me - an empty room is an empty room. But I guess they don't want to have it empty for only 3 nights. Anyway, it doesn't necessarily mean that the hotel will be full.
