January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part III !!!

Status
Not open for further replies.
I hope everyone has enjoyed their Sunday. We had some friends over to watch the Bills game. What a disappointment. On a good note...my DH made homemade chicken noodle soup. He makes it once a year and it's sooo delicious! He makes a huge pot of it and we eat it all week.

I'm very much looking forward to Tuesday. My DH doesn't have to work (bank holiday) and our DD is off from school. We're either going out for breakfast or lunch so that will be fun. I also don't have dance practice that night. I definately need a day to do absolutely nothing.

I think my DH and I are going to book our rental car tonight. We have lots of different coupon codes and such to go through, so I'm sure it's going to take us awhile! Catch you all later!

Another Question - anyone know if the updated the restaurants that are participating on the meal plan. I check this every week and have lost my link. I'll go try to find it now. I am hoping some of my ADRs get on the list or else I'll need to switch those too!

I think the link you may be looking for is this one
http://adisneyworld.disney.go.com/m...especific/eng/nontheme/tickets/2009Dining.pdf

I have this one bookmarked too. I hope they will soon finalize all the restaurants on the dining plan. I don't see the Yak and Yeti, so I may have to move a couple of my ADRs too.

Hi everybody. I'm back from a Ladies Shopping Weekend with my Mom and my sister! We had a great time in Lancaster County, PA. We outlet-shopped till we dropped! Let's say it was our contribution to the country's "Economic Stimulus".

I ended up talking with my AAA TA on Friday morning. The Pop discounts were not available, so we switched to All Star Movies, to save $272. I was hoping for more, but am very pleased anyway. Now we have to decide how to spend the "saved" money!

If you had an opportunity to do the deluxe dining plan, would you?

My DH and I are batting this one around.

The pros for my family are:
-three meals a day
-appetizers included at TS meals
-2 snacks per day (some days my children eat like birds, other times they seem to be bottomless  )
-able to try more restaurants we are leaving off the list this time
-resort mug included

The disadvantages for my family are:
-require more $ for tips
-tips will be larger due to the added appetizer
-spending more time at TS and less at parks

We like our plan now, as we have all the ADRs we truly wanted at the times we want them but like the idea of prepaying for all meals and no worries.

Of course I have to keep on thinking of ways to spend more $ at Disney.:rotfl:

Thank you,
Remmy

I'm a snowbird as well, just a little late to the party! ;) We'll be staying at the Beach Club (!) from January 4-11 thanks to the 4/3 discount! :cool1:

Here are our ADR's:
Jan. 4 - Mama Melrose's at 6PM
Jan. 5 - Chef Mickey's at 5PM
Jan. 6 - Coral Reef at 5PM
Jan. 7 - Yak and Yeti at 4:45PM
Jan. 8 - Les Chefs de France at 4:50PM
Jan. 9 - Le Cellier at 6:05PM
Jan. 10 - Kona Cafe at 5PM

Soooooo excited!

Sounds like a good plan! We got season tickets for 6 Broadway shows coming to Mpls so we have some guaranteed dates! we will miss one while we're at WDW but don't care.
I'm so excited to see Wicked, I couldn't get tix last year. I'm actually going twice - once with friends too. I'll give everyone a full report tomorrow!

Tuesday is Veterans' Day. We both have off work (gov't workers) and the kids have to go to school, so we are planning a day of shopping and lunch out on the other side of the Twin Cities we never go to! Should be fun! Then next weekend DH has to work the whole weekend - days and nights! :(

You will LOVE Wicked - I can guarantee that. I've seen it 3x - once in NYC with the original cast and twice on tour. It is an amazing show and you'll never look at the Wizard of Oz the same way again (and that's all I'm saying :ssst: ) My D goes to college in NY and she sees shows all the time, and WICKED is one of her top favorites. She actually keeps in touch with a few of the actors who she has met when they have done the show before. Let us know how you like it!!

What are the other shows in your package plan? We are definitely Broadway fans - not sure if there are many I haven't seen. And, D saw 24 shows last school year - thank goodness for student discount tix - but, she would rather spend her money on seeing a show than shopping - go figure!!

Sorry about your Bills - I was actually at the game today - big Patriots fan here!:cheer2: But, I was working in one of the concession stands for my non-profit, so we don't get to see much of the game, but just the excitement of being there is great. It was a beautiful day - not too cold and just a light breeze. Saw alot of the crowd in shirtsleeves - not your typical NE November weather. Next, on to the Jets on Thursday night!!

When I got home, H had made a great dinner, and then I took a long bath to soak my aching bones - it is a long day of work (we have to be there at 9:00 AM for a 1:00 game), but it is an awesome fundraiser for our group, so it is well-worth it.

The weather did look pretty amazing there on tv. Here, it was a very gray day. It was a perfect day for my DH's chicken soup!

We do the DxDP and love it. We went in January with the twins (3 yo at the time) and it worked out really well for us. We did CRT and Narcoossee's, so those were 2 credit. We had flexibility for breakfasts when we didn't have ADRs so we used snack credits for yogurt parfaits, etc. DH LOVED the plan. We planned it out beforehand using the allears menus and saw that we would save money. We also didn't force ourselves to get dessert if we weren't hungry. It was actually the only thing he requested for our trip in January.

Because of our kids ages, we had plenty of time at the park with the plan. I wanted to be sure they were having fun and not too worn out, so the restaurant breaks were great (for us, too). Only once or twice did I feel like a meal was taking longer than it should.

HTH!

I've just read about the "Monorail Cocktail Tour" on another thread. Given the likely crowds at the parks on Jan. 3, would it be a reasonable plan to ditch the park and just tour the Monorail hotels for cocktails & appetizers on Jan. 3?

What would you do?

Thanks for the advice!!

What is the monorail cocktail tour?:goodvibes
Sounds fun!

Hey Remmy! We are doind dxdp for the first time. The biggest complaints I read about DXDP are the obvious...takes up park time, too much food. I think that if your family enjoys TS meals then you should go for it. It's not every day you get spoiled that way.:thumbsup2

Thank you Remmy ! Much Appreciated. The Yak and yeti is on our list as well as many of the World Showcase restaurants.
I guess this may be the hot topic for the Snowbirds ! :)

We have planned on the Deluxe Dining. We did the Basic Dining and found that we had the regular resort breakfast every day because we saved our TS meal for Dinner. We also had to Pay OOP for some meals. By using the deluxe we can enjoy the food, so many restaurants to try. I think it will be too much food. We found out TS meals were quicker and more enjoyable than most CS, due to the line up, trouble finding a table etc. I can;t recall a memorable CS meal, but I remember numorous TS meals we loved.

Our concerns are the tip not included. When we went last the tip was included. It made a world of difference. Too bad for disney I am very frugal! :rotfl:

The snack credits we plan of stashing up on treats at Goofy's Candy Cupboard.

We are also of the mindset that we will try things we normally wouldn't - even if it is one bite.

We reviewed the menus and planned what we would eat and did the math, we definitely save money. We did pick the item we would like to have if money weren't of concern, as well as if money was a concern. Either way we benefit!

I would LOVE to try the Deluxe Dining. I stress myself out trying to "maximize" the regular DDP by doing certain snacks for breakfast or splitting one or two CS in order to save and not have to buy something extra for the 2 yr old. UGH!! It would be great having everything already paid for and you could pick which you wanted! What's the price now? Isn't it about 80 for adults and 20 for kids?

Hey Remmy~
As far as the dlx plan, we opted against it and stuck with the regular.I always ship a couple of med size boxes to our resort and have cereal like Cheerios, breakfast granola bars, juice bottles, stuff like that and the kids eat in the room while we are getting ready to head out for the day--close to the end we usually do one character breakfast OOP and use our snax for goodies to bring home. Our oldest son is over 10, so we have to pay for him as adult. That really makes a big jump in the price- so just eating in the room and then doing an earlier lunch time works great for us. It does take longer to do TS, and so we only really need one a day. And it is a lot of food!!! Hope this helps you a little--this is just what works for our family!!

That sounds about right-if not, your close. the regular ddp is $40 for Adults and $10 for kids, so I think they just double it.:confused3 But, you do get the free mugs!!!

I know crowded with food ! We are on the Deluxe Dining Plan. We will have some CS lunches as DD has an appointment at BBB as well as some other "surprises"

So now I need to see who is going when I am an arrange some DIS meets!
