January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part III !!!

Well, CBR does have larger rooms than the other moderates. I can really tell the difference. So that is an option for you. AKL and WL are the cheaper Deluxe resorts, but their room size is the same as CBR. WL is in a better location if you spend a lot of time at MK. I know, it's a tough decision. Good luck!

Well not that this is any help... but I have stayed at SOG, moderates, and AKL.... here are my thoughts....

SOG rooms are huge... none bigger... love the extra area with the sofa and table/chairs... we always have things like golf clubs so we really like the extra room.... had I not been traveling with two teenage boys this trip we would be at SOG... but the dining plan is needed this trip.... not sure if you have seen 2 fifteen year old boys eat but they are eating machines....

AKL is lovely.... however I don't think we would stay there again unless it was a great rate... the rooms are very nice... and yes they are larger... the beds are very comfy... but the furniture is huge.... so much that I don't think you have that much extra space.... the bathrooms are really nice... and you can't beat the animals and the main areas... very nice... we didn't really care for the pool area.... but that was just us...

out of the mods we have stayed at POFQ and CSR... we love CSR... we like the beach, the Pepper Market and the pool.... POFQ was very nice also.... much smaller and it was great when the kids were little... we are excited to be trying CBR this time though...

so that was my thoughts...

Thanks for the quick replies! I didn't realize the rooms at CBR were the same size as those at WL and AKL. I seem to remember that when WL was built, it was originally intended to be a moderate, so that makes sense. I never would have thought about the size of the furniture...that's a very interesting point! I'm sure when the boys are older we'll have to think about the dining plan, too...but with a 10-year-old "adult" it's not a good deal for us now. I'm leaning toward sticking with SOG, but I'll probably ask DH's opinion, though I expect he'll defer to me as the Disney expert of the family. I might still keep an eye on the DVC rent board in case anyone has expiring points they need to use up--a 1-BR would be lovely!

Is Jan 25 your DD's actual birthday? That's my birthday! Too bad that is the day we're leaving to come home.

OK, I'm still on the fence with this discount business. We're planning on 6 nights at SOG and already have 7-day hoppers. We could switch to 7 nights at a moderate and save about $200 (gift card), or switch to 7 nights at AKL or WL (if available) and pay about $200 more. (This would be re-buying hoppers and saving the ones we have for another trip.) The extra night would be OK work-wise and school-wise, a little extra $ needed for food. We stayed at POFQ in 2002 and were happy with it, but now I'm a little concerned about the room size with two boys who have grown a lot since then, PLUS a pack-n-play. All this talk about CBR has me thinking about that...Shelly, you should be getting a commission from them! I know their rooms are a little larger. We've never visited ALK or WL, but I've heard such great things about them. But we do like SOG...the rooms are HUGE and it's so peaceful and quiet. Any thoughts? Help!

Well, I'm off to a funeral. My 89 year old Grandmother passed away on Wednesday night. I have no clue why they are rushing this service...but I'm not loving that tomorrow during burial, the forecast if for snow!!

The weather here in MN is crappy - wet and cold. Forecast includes snow for the weekend. Yuck. Winter has arrived. We were wearing t-shirts last week. Now, winter coats.
At least we're not in Bismarck ND or Deadwood SD - 40 inches of snow yesterday and wind!!

Okay I'm off to do errands and go home and snuggle up on the couch with the dog! (I wish - I'll probably clean).

I was almost "swayed" to change my resort to a Moderate or a Deluxe due to the codes, but my NonDisneyLoving Husband kindly reminded me that we are a commando style family and that we only sleep in our rooms. So, he is right..but don't tell him. We are sticking with Pop and loving the frozen cokes. Let's just hope that the machines are up and running when we are there.

For the QOTD...My first snack item when I was 5 was a frozen chocolate banana on a stick so I try to get one every trip for memory sake. Not that it's my favorite snack but strictly for the memories...

Oh my goodness... this is to funny.. my friend sent this newspaper article from a town in Florida... true story.....I am going to try and shorten the story... there is an elderly woman who is shopping at her local mall. While leaving the mall with her purchases she sees 4 males stealing her car. She drops her bags and pulls a gun from her purse and runs up to the car and yells at the men inside to get out or she will shoot.... they jump out of the car and run away. The elderly woman gathers her purchases gets in the car and is so shaken up that she can't even get the key in the ignition... then she notices a fisbee, a football and a case of beer... upon further investigation she realizes that this is not her car and she finds hers down the row about 4 vehicles away. She immediately drives to the police station to tell them what she has done. While conveying her story to the detective he begins laughing... it seems at the other end of the counter are four young males describing this crazy little old lady, with white curly hair, barley 5 ft tall that car jacked them.....

I've heard that a few times already and I laugh every time.

First off, to you and your family during this time.

Secondly, I think it's funny that we've had days this week that were upper 60's and now about 24-48 hours later we get snow...ahhh the joys of WI! (and I'm sure other northern states understand this too!)

Last, we are the same as you. All we do in our rooms is sleep. We don't go back to the room in the middle of the day. We schedule in "off days" but that just means it's not a day that we spend the whole time in a park, we'll go mini golfing, or look at other resorts or DTD. But we basically are in the room for a max of 10 hours a day, and that's when we sleep!

Now I want to stay at CBR too LOL!!!! We could have a snowbird meet at the resort LOL!!! I wonder if my husband would kill me if I upgraded hmmmmmm.....guess I know what I'll be doing at lunch hopefully the CM's won't kill me for yet another call LOL!!!

Has everyone who made changes to their ressie last night gotten their confirmation email? My CM told me it would be coming "shortly", but I still have not gotten it. . .

Mine is, the mickey ice cream bar! I've gotten at least one on every trip!

3 pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and rolled in candy is one snack credit at Goofy's Candy store in DTD. Always a must for me!!

My high school reunion meeting went great! We even had two guys show up, which was a pleasant suprise. Everyone had changed, but were still the same too. A really pretty friend of mine now works in the crime lab (like CSI.) You go girl! One girl had just found out the she is pregnant with her first child. Fun fun! One of my really good guy friends from HS is the producer for a popular rap song called 'Ay Bay Bay'. That cracks me up! The highlight of the night was finding out one of our classmates is now a 'male escort' in Las Vegas. Yikes!

Sorry to pull you back in this code talk mess but…. We were able to upgrade from a preferred room at ASM to a preferred room at CBR. We are still saving about $60 (of course now we are staying at a mod vs. a value) plus our $200 gift card. Dates are still the same, 1/21-1/28/09. Since you’re the Snow Birds CBR “hookup”, please tell me we made the right decision!

We've stayed there twice and really wanted to stay there again this time around. Now with the discount being so good we can!!! You'll love it... I can almost hear the steel drums playing now

I'm pretty new to posting at DIS. But, I've been reading for a few weeks as we booked a 9 night/10 day trip back in September.

I'm very happy, as yesterday's deal got us $618 off our nights at POR. We didn't consider upgrading as we're traveling with 2 other couples for the first 7 nights and we all decided to just take the discount. Plus my husband and I are at Boardwalk Villas for our last 2 nights so we're going to get to experience deluxe anyway.

Just stumbled on to this thread today, so here goes:

Hey Everybody! Well, we are still on the fence about whether or not to use this code and switch to CBR! I have tried very hard to look at the 2 resorts with objective eyes and to not think about the emotion attached or the money saved. The clear winner for our family is POFQ! CBR IS lovely but for our family's needs it just doesn't compare! DH and I are still going to sit down and take a look at it together and decide TOGETHER what is the best choice. Oh if only the discount was available at POFQ, all my stress would be over!

As far as snacks go (if it remains the same for 2009) you should be able to get anything that is under $4 (with tax), but no "family size" snack bags of candy. . . . You can get a Dole Whip, an Ice Cream Cone, a Candy Bar, a Bag of Chips, a Mickey Bar, lots of stuff at Goofy's Candy Store, etc. . .

As for the ticker, I didn't want to start over again either, but I figure it will move faster this time, right??? I think all the CBR Snowbirds should have one like mine!
