January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part III !!!

I love the candy corn pumpkins WAY more than regular candy corn. In fact, back in early September, when they hit the shelves, I bought three bags. Fresh pumpkins - it was STRANGE! 8-0

;)

I survived my talk! WHEW! It was a small group of intelligent graduate students and I set it up to be pretty informal. Being me, I immediately blurted out "this is my first presentation ever!" which totally broke the ice and everyone was immediately chatting with one another and me. My 20 minute presentation took about 50, with questions/discussion, so I think that was successful. Then my boss gave me a ride home! Woohoo! DH had an appointment after work and while he could take the bus, I probably shouldn't drive with my pain killers (and if the doctor says "probably", frankly, I'm not going to find out the hard way that she's right!).

I should go exercise, since I'm finally eating food. What an exciting day I've had.

(But YAY! First talk! Success! Tomorrow's Friday! Payday! Halloween!)

It started as an offshoot from the January Code Watch thread. To keep it from getting too far off track (obviously didn't work! :rotfl: ), the North Carolinians created their own thread. I invited them over here, but . . . :confused3.

Maybe there are just too many Yankees here!

Yankees.... that just makes me laugh.

After moving back from Orlando (the first time) I went to visit my dad and he said, "Oh, Soleil. You sound like a Yankee now!" I had been living with 5 girls from New York. That's what I think of when I hear that word.

BTW....My dad has nothing against northerners. He grew up in Europe, so it's not like that. We love living in the South, but are not proud of what it stood for pre-war. I do not like it when people hang rebel flags here. It makes me sad.:sad2:

Hey Gals! Just wanted to say HI before I go to see HAIRSPRAY! :yay: So EXCITED! Will be back really late so I'll check in in the morning! Have a great Evening ALL! :goodvibes

Oh, have a BLAST!!!! :wizard:

Congrats on having a great day!! Sounds awesome.

I have to go buy colored hair spray for my kids. They have wacky hair day at school (no costumes though). One wants green because for Halloween she's going to be a green witch. The other wants orange because she's going to be a tiger. Hope my local Target has some left!!

Oh, I have a weather update...it got to 70 today!!! WAHOO! And I got to get out of work early to enjoy it. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler, but hey, I'll take 60 on 10/31! Sorry to you FL folks having a cold snap. No, really, I'm sincere!!
I'll be back...

Do you know once when I was in the Main Street candy store I asked the girl for a Jelly Apple, she had know idea what I meant. I said the things next to you. She goes Oh, a CANDY apple. Now I'm thinking whatever they can be called both, right? This man behind me then goes, "Jelly Apple, she must be a Yankee!" It was the oddest thing. I had never been insulted by being called a Yankee!

Maybe someone needs to tell them, YOU LOST THE WAR!
lol, seriously whats up with that though?

:rotfl: Those words might start the war all over again LOL:rotfl:

I'm no Southern Belle (I grew up in Kansas, I'm a Jayhawker LOL) However, if you had asked me for a Jelly Apple I would have probably given you the same strange look LOL!! I only know them as candy apples LOL!!! However, That is no excuse for them calling you a Yankee LOL

Heck, I grew up in NJ and live in MA, and I'd have given you that look if you asked for a Jelly Apple! I've never heard it called that!

I have NEVER heard of a Jelly apple :confused3 Candy apples or caramel apples, yes, but never a jelly apple. You learn something new everyday!

I have completely OD'd on halloween candy  My neighbors give out the best candy ever! There are other Hershey employees in the development and they often give out the big Hershey bars and double packs of Reese's. Ry's pumpkin was so heavy that he couldn't even carry it any more. Lucky for him, I can help lighten the load for him ;)

I'm starting with the paint chip but adding my own embellishments! :thumbsup2

I used the Home Depot ones and cut them out and then put them on card stock that I decorated... along with my screen name... and laminated them.... sorry I don't have a photo...

Good idea!! I may do some with my cell phone # to hang on my kids! I have picked up some LGMH plus some other colors to make magnets for our cruise door. Thought I'd just put our names on, glue magnets to the back and stick them on the door. Nice and simple!!
I have to get my tush to Home Depot and start getting crafty I guess! My LGMH will be attached to one of my two strollers- yes I'm taking two- don't yell. Apparently some people don't like strollers in WDW and have comments to make about "older" children in strollers. Sorry but my son will be just shy of 5 when we go and it's going to be way too much walking for him. Sorry, stepping off the soap box now.:rolleyes1

I like the idea of putting the cell phone number on it for my kids. Now to figure out how to attach it to them and have it stay.

My favorite Halloween candy is: CANDY CORN!

I love it, because you can barely get it any other times of the year, so it's basically Halloween specific...
"No I don't like candy corn, I like lots of other treats but I don't like candy corn..." Anyone's kids watch Noggin? They have a candy corn song and every time I hear candy corn that song pops in my head.
I love candy corn and any other fruity type candy- Twizzlers, Starburst, Nerds, Laffy Taffy, YUM!!! I can't wait for tomorrow!
I see a moderator had to step into the Jan Code Watch thread. . .

She also said that - The DIS has the codes up as soon as they are confirmed by Disney. No need to go elsewhere when we have the information.
:sad2:

Hey what's up with the NC January thread?

Are we being state exclusive now? Where's all the snowbirds love?
I hope all you PA ladies don't start a PA thread:eek: That would leave... what... like 2 Snowbirds here:lmao:

Heading to bed so I can get up bright and early for my codes!!!! (It's kinda fun!)

Anyone around? I'm on hold for approximately the next 8 minutes with Disney cruise line reservations. I just found out if I book a cruise on select 2009 dates (as I already did) they have a bounceback type offer for a 3 day cruise in late summer through fall 2009 for $99 per person! I have to see if I can still get that code applied to my cruise. They're playing wonderful Disney music. :) Here's hoping I get it, then I can go back to Disney in December and get APs for this trip too!! Wahoo! Then I can take advantage of the AP discount! Oh this gets better and more confusing every day!:confused3

I just told my Mom about this...we were so bummed that we can't take another vacation during those dates. We looked into changing our Disney dates and taking a 4-day cruise...but it would cost to much to change are plane tickets.

Hope you can make it work.

Well, I got my deal for the cruise. I will get a voucher for a 3 night cruise between August and December 17, 2009 for $99 per person!! We don't have to book until between April and May, so I can hopefully check the school schedule. This means I could get APs and go back in December like we've always wanted to. We'll get to see the Christmas decorations, all the Santas in world showcase, Osbourne lights!!! :yay:
Now I have to research if I want to change my resort with an AP rate and see what I can get on this trip. OH LIFE IS GOOD!!! and so crazy!!

Off to do more research!!

Congrats on having a great day!! Sounds awesome.
really, I'm sincere!!

  Congratulations on your great talk!!!!

Thanks!! That's done, it's all downhill from here into Friday!! (It was nice to get my face out to them, show that I'm not as intimidating as my predecessor, and then conquer my fear of giving talks!)

QOTD...I love Nerds and Hershey bars

Oooh. I forgot about Nerds. This has been a great question. All these candies I've forgotten about - that my waistline thanks me for having forgotten! ;)

Heck, I grew up in NJ and live in MA, and I'd have given you that look if you asked for a Jelly Apple! I've never heard it called that!

Ditto. I would have looked for a gummy candy in an apple shape for you! I love candy apples but I didn't see any this year. Plenty of caramel apples. Yum.

Congrats Sarah...one day I will get to see Disney at Christmas.

You'n'me, we'll stage a revolt from Michigan and march down to see it!! Since the big grant deadline is RIGHT after Christmas, the boss said "absolutely NOT" when I asked her if I could have some vacation time in December. Woe. But since the grant issuer's deadline is January 15th, the fact that I was able to convince her to let me go to Disney that week is a big win! (But the grant is likely to spend 2-3 days at the dean's office and 5 day's at the sponsored research office, so not being there on 1/12 isn't so bad- there's NO way a grant submitted that late is likely to be worthy of funding)

I suppose I COULD go to Disney Christmas week. But that's not my idea of fun... but I'm also the person who avoids malls in December!!

...I can't believe October is just about over!
...I can't believe I get an extra hour of sleep on Sunday (woohoo!!).

I like Cadbury chocolate, especially the Caramilks. This is the first time I will say this but I am looking forward to working this Saturday. All the Hallowe'en candy should be at least 50% off.:cool1: Woo hoo. Tonight they still had a big selection when I left work.

I just want to congratulate all Snowbirds on any victories they had today. I am glad you felt welcome enough to share with all of us. I hope our thread can stay peaceful and caring. I don't venture much from our group either. I sometimes go to the Canadian boards but mostly lurk. :cool2: I feel the most comfortable on this forum.

Sleep well all Snowbirds. Maybe tomorrow will be our magical day :wizard: . If not, it has to come out sometime before January, right?

Remmy

Goodnight Remmy and all snowbirds still up!!

Thanks for your kind words. I also only lurk on other threads, except my cruise meet, which is rather inactive.

See you all tomorrow! I'm sure you east coasters will be up bright and early checking on codes!!

Hello fellow snowbirds! I have not posted in a few days because I have been "watching" all the code drama :sad2: It's a bit overwhelming planning your 1st WDW vacation to the happiest place on earth and then an all out war starts over there :confused3 Oh well hopefull a code comes out tomorrow and it will all be over :woohoo:

I am excited about Halloween tomorrow! This will be the first year I take two of my boys trick-or-treating :goodvibes I think one of them will be scared and the other will love it! My oldest is SOOO excited! I LOVE halloween :goodvibes

lol, seriously whats up with that though?

I've lived in New York my whole life (Syracuse and now Buffalo) and I've NEVER heard of a jelly apple. I'm not a fan of the candy apples. I always feel like I'm going to break a tooth! But, caramel apples I adore! They were the favors for my sisters wedding and they sure were delicious! As for being called a Yankee, that has never happened to me. I don't think that's very nice.
