January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part II !!!

If you are changing at JFK, I would keep an eye out. That's where I'm flying out from and the early flight was pushed back. When I spoke to the woman I asked her if it could happen again and she said "Maybe" :scared1:
I'm still getting there at 10am, but the later the flight, the more likely JFK will have major delays.

We're departing from Buffalo at 7:55am (the first Jet Blue flight of the day) and arriving at JFK at 9:24am. We then depart for Orlando at 10:24am and are scheduled to land at 1:20pm. I hope that everything can stay the same! On the way home, I could care less because it's already no fun coming home.

Hi everyone.....Wow I hope I didn't offend anyone while making a comment about everyone being chatty ....So sorry if I did :worried: I Love being able to pop in and catch up on everyone's planning. It really helps me get excited and have a Disney outlet for my obsession (this is a surprise trip).

Thanks again Snowbirds for keeping the excitement going! Ya'll are a great bunch!

I know I didn't take offense and I'm sure no one else did either. I pride myself on being chatty! More posts= more pages and that = a new Snowbird thread!!!:yay:

No offense taken here... I love to hear about everyones day.... and Shelly keeps us upto date on many Disney things....

We have quite the opposite problem here in Houston. Have you ever had to cook a turkey on the grill on Christmas day because it was so hot outside that you just knew the a/c would never cool the house down after having the oven on all day?:beach:

Or how about your DD complaining that her Halloween costume, a beautiful Belle dress you bought her and the petticoat you sewed by hand, is way too hot and could she just put on something else. That was the year DH went as the travelosity roaming gnome and he refused to wear the pillow in his shirt because he was sweating buckets. What make me laugh is that the store will stock those heavy fur costumes for little kids and by Halloween those are the ONLY costumes left. Who would buy them?

I'm not saying that I want the snow conditions you are describing but it would be nice to have a little nip in the air or a light dusting of snow anytime before Christmas. We sometimes have a few days (2-3) where it gets below freezing for a few hours overnight but that is not until late Jan. or Feb.

BTW you all have been super chatty I haven't been on since this weekend and I was on page 183......I guess I have a lot of catching up to do!!![/QUOTE]

I can testify to that!! Hi Neighbor :wave2: I am about 1 1/2 hours from you!! So, I can definitely feel your pain!!! We always wear shorts for Thanksgiving and lots of Christmases!! The stores here really do need to get with the program for NON-furry outfits! My pour kids are soaked- even if they aren't fur lined--they are all hot!!!

Hello everyone!!

I am dealing with another migraine tonight  I think I'm catching a cold. DS started with it this morning, poor little guy.

At any rate . . . more vacation updates for me. DH was upset that we weren't going to be spending anytime with his sister while we were down at Disney. So, we've added an extra day to our trip. We'll be arriving on Jan. 5 and spending the evening in Wiinter Springs before heading to the Poly on the 6th. I've also moved some of our ADRs around. Sorry Shelly. I'll get into that when I'm feeling better.

You will probably be on Part III by the time I can check in with you all tomorrow night.

Mindy-hope you get better-- I've had 2 this week:scared1: Take some Tylenol PM--it worked wonders!! Hopefully by now you are already in bed sleepin' it off. Hope it's gone when you wake up!!!

Well I'm saying good night everyone. I'm getting ready to head out for a night of bowling and drinking with some friends. It's my friends last night home for leave. He heads back to "the sandbox" tomorrow.:sad2: :sad1: :scared: :sad1:

So if you could, just say a small prayer tonight for all our troops. They truly need it!

I have twins on both sides of my family. They don't run in the family though, they were both conceived via fertility drugs and are fraternal. Each set consists of one boy and one girl. My cousins on my mom's side are now 17 yrs old. They were born when my family was at WDW! We were there with my grandparents and one of my mom's other sisters and her family. We kept waiting for the phone to ring!

I also am a proud Mom of twin boys!

I love them more than anything but it always makes me laugh when people say they want twins :lmao:

I too am hitting a lull in our planning. I sometimes think we may hit a wall as we require time to pass. I was really excited for the 180 day window :cool1: but now that all my ADRs are done all I can do is wait until we can go. :rolleyes1

I think my other problem is my DH's job loss due to a massive layoff in the auto industry.:sad1: He has found another job but only at 40% of the pay we were use to him bringing home. That has cut into our Disney planning. As well, our Canadian $ has hit a nose dive. Our vacation is now even more $$ than we had planned. I wanted to cut back but DH said we made a promise to the children and to go and enjoy. (DH is a Disney fan, several childhood vacations there)

I think we are all waiting and hoping all economies get back to normal sooner than later.

So I went on Northwest website to see if our flights had been changed...no time changes. However, I found that our flights are now $60 cheaper/ person. I called Northwest and I would only end of with a voucher for $30 off another flight, because they take out a $50 fee. UHHHHH that sucks. That would have been like getting a discount code without actually getting one.

Question: We booked through AAA (got a discount) I know you can only apply one discount at a time. However if Visa offered free dining, could I still use a room discount or free upgrade code if they come out, along with my free dining?

To answer where I received the information on the phone call, it came from the following newsletter:
Magically Speaking from the Mouse for Less site

I hope I do not get in trouble for posting about another Disney info site.

It was found in the section:
World News and Beyond

Receive a Call from Mickey
Between Nov. 28 and Dec. 23, guests who book their 2009 vacations to Walt Disney World Resort can sign up to receive a call from Mickey Mouse on
Christmas Day, surprising their family with the vacation news. To book, contact your travel agent during the promotion dates.

This is all it states. I don't know if you book through Disney if you still qualify but I don't see the harm of calling them and asking if they know about it in that time frame or go to that other site.

I think it would be neat to get a call from Mickey Mouse to your family to solidify that you truly are going to Disney World. I hope this information helps.

Time for yet another 3 MONTH PARTY!!!! Who's with me?

I heard back from the lady at Coral Reef about the personalized menus and diver requests for my husbands birthday. She said they are not taking requests for 2009 at this time, note the email address and try back in December. :confused3 December 1st I'll shoot her another email I guess and see what happens. I really hope they aren't discontinuing it for 09. That would stink!

I definitely understand! My husband is also in the auto industry. He took a decent pay cut two years ago- right after we found out we were expecting our second child- great timing! He decided to work for himself and that hasn't been going as well as planned due to the economy so now he's back to working for a different dealership starting Nov. 1st. We're all hoping the economy will turn for the better very soon. But we aren't going to put vacation and precious family time on hold because of it. We probably should be saving this money rather than spending it on Disney but we would rather enjoy a week of fun with our loved ones.

Can't hurt to try and call Disney about it! Thanks!

I'll join in on the party - it's always great to celebrate!

:dance3: :dance3:
:cheer2: :cheer2:

:cool1: :cool1:

And besides, I have 78 days left!!! :cool1: :cool1: Soon enough, I'll be celebrating the two month mark!!!

They turned the heat on in my building at work before we got to the point of saying "OMG FREEZING HEAT PLZ" which was great except... they renovated this building from 2001-2003 but did NOT update the heating/cooling system. We have steam heat with ancient radiators and traps that need to be replaced daily.

I think my office yesterday might have been noisier than my MRI Tuesday night with all the banging in the radiator.

But it is definitely cool enough here! They're talking the dreaded S-word for Sunday night into Monday, but hopefully no accumulations. October seems a little early for us to be getting that S-stuff... winter's already long enough!!

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I sure hope everybody that is sick is feeling better soon. Better now than January though. . . That is one of my major concerns about going in January - being sick. That and a flight delay due to snow. Okay, I can't think about those things. . .

On to happier thoughts ~

:cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2: Congrats to all that are hitting the 3 month and under mark!! :cheer2: :woohoo: :cheer2:

So I've been thinking about the Menu of the Day and was thinking that some Snowbirds are getting the CS DDP so I think I will start posting CS restaurants too.

She said the same thing last year. I'm sure it's probably due to contracts, etc, but I imagine that gives her a pretty busy December!

It's a rainy day here - it took every ounce of energy I had to get the kids to school (no buses for their schools so we have to drive.:sad2: )

  I'm always game for a party LOL CONGRATULATIONS on meeting the 3 MONTH MARK
