January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

QOTD: Coronado Springs came up first, although I knew it would - you can play around with the answers - I said I'd like a gym, and I know that CSR is the only moderate that has one. Then CBR, then POR, POFQ and ended up with Villas at WL - yeah, right! Well one can dream, can't one?

After reading about all the exciting new types of room decorations some of my fellow snowbirds mentioned I decided to look into them. I thought it would be fun to splurge and maybe have my room decorated for a Disney Welcome. Well just like with Soleil's experience the other day, the CM on the phone didn't have any clue what I was talking about. I just told the nice lady on the phone that was okay and I would try to call back at another time. How long do you think we'll have to wait before that information gets released and we can start booking extras like that for our 2009 trips?

QOTD: CBR, CSR, POR, POFQ, and YC

One of these things is not like the others...
One of these things is not the same...!

Of course, I said I didn't need boat or bike rentals, so I'm not surprised that POR got dropped down a bit. Then again, I'm only staying at POR because it's somewhat convenient to what DH wants for the marathon. Next time, perhaps, we'll try something different! ;)

I took the quiz again, but put in Deluxe for my budget. Came up with Yacht Club and Swan and Dolphin. That was a surprise. Not exactly what I would have picked for my deluxe choices! Hmm. . . maybe I should start looking into those ones! :goodvibes

QOTD- We came up with the Value Resorts- a perfect match for us. We sleep at the resort and that’s about it. We spend the rest of the time at the Parks. The theme is perfect for the kids at All-Star Movies and we can spend the extra money saved (being at a value) on the children. We might have a different answer when we book our stay for our 10th Anniversary in July 2009;).

Question of the Day ~ Which WDW Resort hotel is best for you???

Well, for a Value it says ASMusic (family suites), which is where we'll actually be...

My alternate results were Coronado and Poly! (Poly is MY dream stay!)

Northern Disney Girl (Kimberly) invited me to join in your discussion. Hope its OK if I tag along :goodvibes .

Our family will be making our first trek to Disney from January 10th -16th. As you can see from my number of posts, I'm still in the Disboards learning phase and often suffer from Disney overload.....who would have known there is so much to learn? :confused3

We'll be staying at POR.

We are anxiously awaiting (and hoping and praying) for a nice discount or incentive for our travel dates. Please Disney, extend your free dining to your faithful followers in Canada too!!!

Looking forward to getting to know all you other January travellers as the days s-l-o-w-l-y tick by!

Wow - Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina BANANA Fana ...

Our Snowbird Mascot is the banana!!! You'll SO fit right in. WELCOME.

Gina-

Welcome to the boards! Where in Ontario are you? I am a Metro Detroiter so you could be very close by me! Will you fly out of Toronto? My cousin works for Air Canada and I know I used to drive to Windsor to fly within Canada so I could use his passes. It would be funny if you flew out of Detroit because we are leaving on the 10th as well!!! Woohoo!!

As for the QOTD- It picked POR, we are staying at POFQ because it is smaller. I agree if you have stayed at a certain resort it is very easy to skew your answer that way by answering the questions in a way that it would pertain. It did list WL for us as well which is where we would like to stay maybe next trip. Fun to do though!

Hope everyone is having a good day!!

Amanda

Welcome Gina to the Boards!!! I'm also new to the DIS boards but I'm having a great time getting to know people and enjoy the wealth of information that can be found around here.

Okay, I took the quiz and if I wanted a kitchen and playground for the kids, WL was the winner. If not, the Poly. Which of course is where we are going!!!! Pretty cool!! I had actually looked at the WL for our next trip and it was booked solid! Except, of course, for the most expensive suite they have!! Most assuredly not in my budget!!!

Hi Amanda,

We are in beautiful Belleville.....about 2.5 hours east of Toronto and 1 hour west of Kingston. Detroit is about a 7 hour drive for us.....we actually made the trek 2 years ago when my son played inline hockey in Taylor. Thank heavens for a DVD player in the van :worship:

You are right, we are flying out of Toronto. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a relative to work for a major airline!! We are flying Sunwing and it was still a $1000 bite out of the vacation budget. But waaaaaayyyyyyy better than driving!!!

You'll have to fill me in.....what is the QOTD? Oh, these shortforms can be so hard to keep track of!! :upsidedow

Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks. :)

Is anyone else renting a car while in Orlando? I've spent a couple of hours, and the cheapest rate I can find for our 9 days is $346 for a mid-size. This is using codes/coupons found on Mousesavers.

Has anyone got a good rate on a car yet? If so, please share how you got it.

Thanks! :hippie:

I took the quiz and it came up for POR as my #1....we've never stayed there and probably never will only because we have DVC. My sister loved it there though.

Ha! I was just about to say - that sounds like MY fair - and then I realized - it IS my fair! :lmao:

The fair's mice are about the same size as Mickey and Minnie, though - don't forget that!!!

:lmao: :rotfl:

Actually I was wondering if you would see that! And you're right about the mice - :scared1:

I did go and came back, a little dirtier [thanks to the messy gyro I had] and a little more caloric [thanks to the deep-fried snickers bar]. Boy have I got some exercising to do now! I can happily say that the shoes I'm planning to wear to WDW did not rub a blister and my camera bag did not get too heavy.

Welcome new snowbirds - and I'm almost at the under-four-month mark :woohoo:

THREE MONTHS, THREE WEEKS AND 1 DAY. OFFICIALLY UNDER 4 MONTHS.

Hey, I have an idea. How about you all come over and we'll have a little PARTY!!!!!

:yay: :mic: :rockband: :jumping1: party: party: party: :drinking1 :jumping1: :yay: :yay: :woohoo:
:woohoo: :yay:          :dance3::woohoo:

I did the math 115 days!!!!! WOOT!! Now to just get through my birthday...(Coming up in 10 days WOOT) Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Then its DISNEY time!! Does it make me horrible that of all those things on my list of upcoming events Disney is the one that makes me the most excited!! I really do need some therapy LOL!

Hey! I have a birthday coming up in just 14 days!! October birthdays ROCK!
