We just got back tonight, here's a really quick recap. This was our third time on the Magic, and our first Eastern itinerary. It was me, my wife, and our DSs (7/5).

- We stayed at the Residence Inn on Friday night, which was a wonderful hotel, much quieter, more spacious rooms, and better breakfast than the Radisson up the street. We ate at Zachary's and had another wonderful dinner there. We used the Radisson shuttle to get to the Port on Saturday morning.

- We had a Cat-8 room (7014), it was as nice as all the other Cat 8's we've had, but the area near our room had a funky smell, I'm not sure what it was.

- Not much to say about sea days, dining, and entertainment, they were all wonderful as usual. Mike Super was the magician. Other on-board entertainers included an improv troupe called "Mission Improvable," Heath Hyche and Freddy Fusion. Super and Fusion were phenomenal.

- At St. Martin we did the 5 hr. French Riviera excursion to Orient Beach, there were about 100 other people with us, which made us feel as if we were part of a large Disney group (it took 3 buses to get everyone there/back). The beach was amazing, there were a few topless people walking around, but it was no big deal to anyone. Waves were great, we had our own chairs and the excursion included a decent lunch and two rum-punches (or no rum for the kids). We would HIGHLY recommend this excursion to families looking for a nice, no-hassles beach trip with the kids.

- On St. Thomas we took our own cab to Coral World for the day. It was almost $140 for the four of us (including cab fare) we forgot to bring discount tickets and none of the info booths had them, but you can print them on-line. The kids had a blast and got to feed sting-rays. Coki beach was very nice as well but crowded. This is definitely worth doing on your own at your own pace rather than booking an excursion. St. Thomas day was rough on the kids due to having to go to the WD theater at 6:45 AM to clear customs.

- Castaway Cay weather was mixed, it was very cold when we got off the ship, around 60 degrees, but warmed up throughout the day though it was very windy and the water temperature was around 74. The kids got cold and didn't want to stay very long so we went back and watched a movie on the big screen.

- We took advantage of the Disney airline check-in service for our return trip and I can't recommend it highly enough. We put the tags on our bags on Friday, had them out by 11:00 PM, and next saw them at our home airport. We avoided ticket counters, lugging bags, and car rentals and left all the details to Disney. The Disney bus was the easiest, most relaxing way to get back to the airport after the cruise.

We booked on-board again for January of '09, but we may push it out to March or April to allow for a warmer trip. We had great weather in St. Thomas and St. Martin, but it was too cold in Castaway Cay (and in Orlando).

Please feel free to ask us any questions!

imlazar,

Hi, we just got back too. We didn't do the St. Martin excursion with you but we did go to Coral World on our own. We too were not too happy with the $9 per person cab ride (so $36 for four of us times 2 for both ways = $72.00 just for the cab!!!) So I'm wondering if you were with us on the cab there (actually a minivan). We met a family of four that used to live in Charlotte, NC where we live and also talked to several other families. We have two daughters who LOVED feeding the stingrays! We thought Coral World was well worth it - just not the cab fare.

Also, Castaway Cay was so cold in the morning that I wore a sweatshirt. But the day warmed up and we had a great time. The adults just couldn't go in the water - but the kids were fine.

Hi, we had two boys (7/5) so I don't think we were in your cab, but I'm sure we saw you there. :-)

Ok - here's my question...in order to use the Disney airline check-in service, did you have to book your airfare through DCL?

No, you just have to book an airport transfer. We did book our cruise through Disney, and we called them later on to add the transfer. We booked airfare on our own.

I also just returned from the 1/19 Magic cruise & used the DCL airline transfers, I was a little sketical at first, leaving my luggage outside my door Friday night & hoping it would "magically" appear the next day in CT after a transfer flight!!! And as all things Disney, it WORKED!!! I would highly recommend it.The less I have to fight w/ my luggage (I am NOT a light packer!!), the better!!!:cool1:

Wow what a trip. Finaly have time to sit and chat. Just like to say that my family had a blast with you and your family on 1-19 cruise. And can't wait for the next one. All this pampering is kind of addictive, I looked at all my laundry and was hoping someone would do it all for me, and to clean up after dinner too. Back to reality.....lol. Just wanted to say thanks everyone for making this cruise exciting, fun, magical, wonderful, and a lot more positive adjectives you can add to it.:cheer2:

Glad to hear you had a great time, we leave on the 29th of February and can't wait,I do have a question or 2, 1st-How was the Band on your cruise, and what was there name?Who was the cruise director?. Thanks in avance for your answers.

Talk at you later..

Norm

The band was great they were the Elite showband. Entertainers were Heath Hyche and Freddy Fusion and Mike Super. The Cruise director was Ray. Have fun in Feb.:dance3:

I forgot to mention Pub Night the last night of the magic. The show is a must see. If you need to laugh and not stop laughing you need to see it in the Rockin' Bar D. :lmao:

I wish I could go back again and soon. I'll trade places with you. Come do my reality I do the cruise thing for you in Feb....lol.

Today was my first day back to work, and my daughter left to go back to Guam yesterday, The In-Laws have left too yesterday. I just had to wake up didn't I. All well have fun for me too.

That is too funny, Last year my buddy Tim and I hung there everynite, even got the kids involved in some of the pub games, I wish I could remember the pubmasters name and the bartenders, but we never made it down for pub night due to packing. Would anyone remember the names of the workers down there in Diversions, One does come to mind, I believe his name was Charlie, awesome guys and gals down there.
Not a chance I would switch with you, We have been waiting for this trip for a while.
Going back to work after a cruise/vacation is the hardest thing ever.
Hopefully I or my wife will write when we get back, keep a lookout for it.

GO GIANTS
Talk at you all later..
Norm
