Can I ask how we already know our cabin number and some don't?

This will be our 2nd cruise. Just got back from our 1st one last week. I am so excited that we have something to look forward to now to get away from the winter blues. When we walked off the ship we thought we had to wait until next October. This will be such a nice Christmas present to our girls.

Some of us have book GTY (aka guarantee) rooms. All that means is we paid for a spot on the ship but don't know yet what specific room we will be in. For instance: My family booked a category 12 QTY. Disney allows families of four to do this even though a cat 12 room does not fit 4 people. Therefore we will automatically be upgraded to a category 11 or higher. Now at the time of booking we could have booked a cat 11 room and picked our stateroom number - BUT it would have cost us about $200 more.
There are only around 10 category 12 rooms on the Disney Cruise ships and Disney 'over books' them. So there are a bunch of people who get free upgrades, but that being said there is no guarantee you will be upgraded so you want to book the category you'll be happy with.

On our second cruise we booked a cat 12 and that's the room we got. On our third cruise with the kids we booked a cat 12 and got upgraded to a cat 9 ocean view!!! . Now one knows how it's done - but we're hoping for some pixiedust!!!

Hooray. We got the credit. They had to cancel my original cat 10 reservation but couldn't get the same one because it was snatched up so fast so we had to take a cat 9 upgrade so the credit back was less, but still...478 back plus an upgrade. I would never have known this if it weren't for you Natalie! Thanks.

I know the cruise is still a few months away but I feel like I should start working on our door magnets!
Also - I know it's early, BUT - does anyone think they are going to be interested in a FE exchange? It was so much fun on our last cruise!

The first switch because of our schedule and then the second because of cost. It was the Kids Sail Free that hooked for us. We can't wait. We were on the Magic in 2005 when my youngest DD was 1 and my oldest DD was 4 and we had the best time... but now the kids are older and I think they will enjoy it so much more. Sign us up for FE. I'm going to work on making something in Oct. and I'm going to make a door magnet. The kids will love that.

FE is for Fish Extender. A Fish Extender is a mailbox of sorts that you put on the outside of your stateroom. Then you sign up for a FE exchange on a board like this. Everyone who wants to participate joins in... then when your on the cruise you pass out little gifts to everyone & when you get back to your room you have gifts waiting for you. It's allot of fun.

And here are all of our gifts from the week!!! We didn't pay for anyone these!! Some of them were because we were Castaway Members and some where from the DVC (disney vacation club).

The other abbreviations you asked about are:
DD - Dear Daughter or Disney Daughter
DS - same as above but Son
DH - Husband
DW - Wife

There is a post somewhere that everything is broken down.. I'll look for it for you.

We just booked our 2nd Disney cruise (went last January 10th on the seven day cruise on the Magic). We debated whether to go on a different cruise line but couldn't resist the kids sail free offer. We also were late on the FE list last time we cruised.

Wow! The thread definitely picked up with the kids sail free promo.

We have always done 2nd seating for dinner because we don't have little kids, so the later time is not a big deal.

This will be my 4th cruise and my daughter's 3rd.

We would love to do an FE exchange. They are so much fun and with so many younger kids in our group here, I think they would love it. I know even adults have fun with it.

We had originally booked our Oct 2010 cruise with DCL before we got off ship. Just transferred to Dreams Unlimited w no problem.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I was able to book my parents a cat 11 today. So if you want a lower cat. room just keep looking!

It's going to save them $400 from a cat 9!!!

We are staying 2 more nights. Trying to figure where to stay? Was going to do Disney BUT at the cost of $860 for 2 days for our family of 4 , I think we will pass. Anybody have suggestions where to stay or do?

We are staying at the Blue Tree Resort near SeaWorld after our cruise. Might take in the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom for a few days. Blue Tree's rates are reasonable (rooms cost $90/night and can accommodate a family of 6), clean rooms, cooking utensils provided so we can save money on meals if we want. These are condos that are owned and rented out.
