We've always had Pottery Barn backpacks, but my daughter is set on a JanSport next year. They only get new backpacks every other year so I'm okay with the cost, but I still like a good deal :)

Anyone know if JanSport goes on sale before school? Or the best place to buy them?

Also, I'm thinking the Big Student Backpack is the best option. She'll be in 4th grade.

Thanks!

Dd switched from pbteen to jansport this year. I got hers from ebags. I think it was on sale, I went through ebates, and got a ton of ebags rewards points.

They go on sale before school. JcPenny, Tilly's, basically any store that carries them can have BTS sale. We buy a new Jansport every year before school. Sometimes two... straps break during the school year, so we always have a backup.

I have never had a strap break on a Jansport. I carried my last one for over 10 years! It replaced the one that I used all through high school and college.

I've never had a strap break on my jansport, but when my zipper broke (after 15 years) and I sent it in, Jansport replaced the straps too- so if your straps break, they will fix them.

The backpack (now 20 years old, and used regularly the whole time) has some pin holes in the bottom from my ice skate blades after it was no longer a bookbag that they say is not warranty-able (it is 'normal wear and tear') but zippers and straps, they stand by the lifetime warranty.

I found one on Amazon last month (needed on for our trip) for cheaper than I could get one at JCPenney with a sale and my associate discount! Keep your receipt and tag because they have life time warranties. DS's camping external frame backpack got mauled by a bear on an Appalachian Trail trip, we sent it in, they sent back a new one.

We get ours from Target. DD is on her second one, only because DH said her first looked rough and he was worried she'd get picked on. She still has the first one though. Carried it to school 3 years. L.L. Bean were the popular bags when I went to school. We could finally afford one my freshman year. Carried it all through high school. You get your money's worth with more expensive bags and can use it for more than one year.

For me it's not worth the time to send in a Jansport backpack to be replaced or fixed. We just buy new ones. I have 4 kids and we have had several straps break. Plus, they usually want a different color or something each school year. Honestly, I think the bags are pretty beat up and dirty by the end of the school year. The only kid in my house that has used a Jansport for multiple years is my oldest who is now 24 and just takes stuff to/from work when he rides his bike to work. It's only used on occasion and not loaded down with school supplies. I don't wash bookbags, I just buy new ones when they get to the point where maybe some of you are washing. Because we have multiple Jansport per kid, they do often rotate them. Sometimes my daughter will even trade backpacks with a friend.

As my daughter also is a competitive cheerleader, she has multiple Nfinity backpacks which run $89.99 each before shipping. We have the princess pink, red sparkle, and the original black. They keep releasing new ones and all the cheerleaders go nuts of those backpacks. They are awesome quality and last for years, it's just the new releases are always big hits. So she carries her Nfinity backpacks to the gym and cheer competitions, Jansport to school.
I have a Dakine backpack that I have traveled to different countries with that she sometimes uses as well... until she traded it with another girl for a week. I had to say to stop using it cause I don't want it to get dirty like their Jansports.

I guess I am the only one in the conversation who think Jansport are the less expensive brand backpacks! $15-40 is on the lower end from other brands we have. Of course I suppose everything is relative to the individual.

The trend here this year is to monogram the Jansport. This is one of my daughter's. It's on the Jansport website for $36. Of course I did not pay $36 for it from BTS sales.

I have had my Jansport for over 18 years. I used toward the end of college and through graduate school, various trips, etc. and now DS has used it extensively for travel. The interior lining ripped Last year. We sent it in for repair and it was returned within 3-4 weeks! I hope you can find it on sale, but even if you can't, they are definitely worth the money!

Our daughter is 36 and still has the two original JanSport backpacks I bought her for HS. That's the larger model with the suede bottom, they still sell them on their website, if anyone has older children. They are not for fourth grade.

I still have my JanSport backpack from college and grad school. Has a bit of a rip but nothing major and I still use it on outings many years later. Mine had the suede bottom.

Not sure if you have a VF Outlet store near you but that's where I bought mine through high school and college. Grew up in a single-parent household so we definitely couldn't afford to pay full price.
