Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

I'm glad to hear it wasn't too miserable to have company over! What the heck is an eskimo pie? I've heard of them before but I don't think I've ever seen one. I know, I lead a sheltered life...

I am over the wine fiasco. It's just a little place, I can't be too hard on them! They are lucky their wine is so good or I would not be quite as understanding...

Toss the leftover pizza and eat some veggies! :teeth:

Two more days and we're getting our insulation! I hope this works - its 80 in here already!

I worked this morning and starting on Thurs I'm working 7 days straight. My boss is going on vacation so I'm doing lots of activities with our residents this week. Unfortunately, that includes the holiday party. I always get stuck with those!

Yesterday I was over at my friends and we ate like crap. She had those Sun Chips. Usually chips don't bother me but those Sun Chips are just way too good. We also had iced green tea.

Today's meals -
#1 cereal w/1/2 fresh peach, nf milk

20 min walk

Amy, Eskimo pies are those frozen ice cream treats covered in chocolate. We always get the choc ice cream with the choc covering. They're sooo good - one of dh's favorites. They're high in fat but at least they're prepackaged - prewrapped. I don't dare eat more than one at a time.

Have fun drinking your wine. Thats the best wine I've ever had. We've already had family members putting in orders. I'm staying away from the tomato/jalapeno from now on. Its just too hot!

YEA your insulation is getting closer!! I don't know how you FL folks do it, but the humidity has been up in the 70-80% for the past few days here and it is not nice! Of course, we recognize that we are spoiled and anything outside of 70-78 degrees and 40-50% humidity is outside our comfort zone :rotfl2: But still, this is really unusual for So Cal. We even had thunder and lightning this morning.

Sun Chips are tough to resist 'cause they are so much "healthier" than regular chips - yea right!

Eskimo pies are yummy!

I know what you mean about the pre-packed goodies! It's just so much better than a tub of ice cream, where you can get creative with portion sizes... There is something about eating 500 calories from 3 ice cream sandwiches that doesn't work - you feel like a pig. But of course we have no problem eating 500 calories of ice cream in one sitting...

I'm glad your insulation is almost here! :cool1:

What kind of Sun Chips? I love the Cheddar ones. They are really good!

I can't believe something is too hot for you! I thought you lived for that kinda stuff!

Can't believe we're up to Wednesday already. This week is going by way too fast.

#2 soft taco - (I used black beans so I wouldn't have to use very much of the ground beef mixture. Yesterday older ds joined us for dinner and both ds refused the black beans.) ground beef mixture, black beans, lettuce, salsa, large wrap, cranberry juice

Same for dinner.

I bought mini eclairs!?! :guilty: And were they ever good. 5 yesterday - 5 today!

Today's workout - 20 minutes of free weights

#1 cereal w/ 1/2 peach, nf milk
#2 taco salad
For dinner #3 we're grilling chicken - dh & ds want quesadillas - I hope I have a salad!

Anna, I miss the low humidity of L.A. I've got to tell you, though - the HOTTEST weather I've ever experienced was in L.A. Every summer they'd be three weeks where the heat would just zap the life out of me. I swear the outdoors even smelled like sulpher then. However, I have pics of me in June wearing a sweatshirt. I could use a few of those days right now!

Amy, I believe we were eating the Garden Salsa Sun Chips. I also love the French Onion ones. They are so salty and tasty you don't even need a dip with those things. The grill is calling me - have a great vacation!

Mmm, eclairs. Are they gone? That is something you can't have around. TOO YUMMY!

You don't know what hot is until you've spent the summer in Phoenix! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: The worst months are July and August because we get monsoons (afternoon thunderstorms) and the humidity gets into the 30-40% range. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but when it is 110 degrees and you are used to single digit humidity, it's pretty toasty!

I haven't tried the Salsa Sun Chips and I don't want to because I'll probably like them and that will be yet ANOTHER thing to avoid!

Today I did 20 minutes of cardio. I spoke with a coworker who has lost 12 lbs in the past month. She went from 145 to 133. She looks fantastic. She told me she only works out 20 minutes a day but she has been really watching watch she eats. Portion control!! She used to eat all kinds of candy bars and junk but has quit eating between meals and it shows. She's motivating me to get going again.

For dinner last night I had quesadillas. I couldn't resist after fixing them for dh and ds. I also snacked on peaches and grapes in between. Also one can of squirt while watching tv last night.

#1 cereal w/ fresh strawberries
#2 turkey, mashed potatoes and peas, cinnamon apples
#3 We had a meeting and I had coke and choc candy - Hersheys
#4 dinner - salad with grilled chicken, black beans, shredded cheddar and nf balsalmic spritzer dressing

Amy, I bet Phoenix is miserable in the summer. No wonder why you're going up to Michigan. Have a great trip and stay away from the Sun Chips!!

Do me a favor and smack your co-worker for me! Maybe I should start eating candy bars and junk so when I stop I will lose weight... IT'S NOT FAIR!!!! I swear I have been haunted by the effects of pre-pre-pre-menopause... :furious:

I hope you are able to behave this week while I am gone! And don't forget to join the July Exercise Challenge! I need to exercise 85 minutes tomorrow to make my goal. I don't know if that will happen or not... :rolleyes1

Great job snacking on peaches and grapes instead of cheese and eclairs! :cheer2:

After my second day of 8 hours in my Alzheimers unit I'm worn out. I stopped by Wendy's on the way home and bought a jr bacon cheeseburger. Dh and ds went to Subway - if only I'd known I would have put in a request! Dh is much healthier than me.

#1 cereal w/ strawberries, sliced almonds and nf milk
#2 crabcake, sprite
#3 lots of Hershey's choc block things - can't remember what they're called
#4 jr bacon cheeseburger, cranberry juice, 4 cookies

At work we still have leftover sodas and chocate. Yesterday I brought in a mocha bar since I knew I could not control myself around choc. I came in today and someone ate MY mocha bar!!! I'm miffed and I feel fat from all the choc I've been eating.

Amy, whether you make "goal" or not isnt' important. You've been doing an awesome job of working out everyday. You're an inspiration to me - I've just got to catch up! If you're pre pre pre - than I'm pre! And it feels like crap - I'm always HOT! And I live in Florida! AND my a/c sucks!

Today I did 20 minutes of cardio.
#1 cereal w/ strawberries, oj
#2 shredded pork w/mashed potatoes, lemonade
#3 5 chicken fajita nachos, 2 LI iced teas

Originally, dh was going to get BBQ for us but at the last minute we decided to go out to our favorite, Chilis.

Another 20 minutes of cardio. Today we had a super busy day at work - we had a family BBQ and had lots of decorating etc to get done. I ate way too much food.

#1 cereal
#2 hamburger, potato salad, baked beans
#3 peanut M&Ms
#4 5 onion rings with sauce, 1 rodeo burger

Hi!

It's taken me a while to catch up on everything, but it sounds like you're doing really well, especially on your fitness goals. Good for you! :cheer2:

Have a great day today and try to stay cool!

Peanut M&Ms seemed to be the theme for me this weekend. I couldn't stay away from them. This was a long busy weekend for me. Since I was working yesterday I knew I'd be too worn out to go out for the holiday. I didn't get home until almost 6pm. We ordered in ribs & french fries, & coleslaw. Our neighbors brought over fried chicken & we all ate at home. All of us adults watched while ds and his buddies lit up fireworks. At 9pm we all went outside to watch all the neighborhood fireworks as well as the big ones from the beach. By 11pm I was fast asleep.

#1 cereal,nonfat milk
#2 corned beef, mashed potatoes, corn
#3 1/2 rack of ribs, 1 piece of fried chicken, french fries, 3 glasses of champagne - dinner last from 7pm until about 10pm - we nibbled off and on all evening - way too much food - I was good and didn't have any dessert

All day long I ate peanut M&Ms.

#1 I skipped breakfast
#2 1/2 sandwich from Blimpies - ham, turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato on jalapeno cheddar - I love their bread. I had to run to WalMart for a few errands and couldn't leave without sandwiches for dh, ds and ME!

Everyday in July I did 20 minutes of cardio. Today I increased my minutes to 65 for walking. :Pinkbounc My total is 145. I'm going to try to keep up this month.

Pearliq, its great to see you back. I've missed your posts!

I'm back up to 156.4. I can't believe how badly I've been doing. This is definately NOT good! My siggie was down to 150. What really kills me is that at one point I was down to 148.

50 minutes of free weights today brings me up to 195/1000. My neighbor and I went out for lunch today - I thought about the nachos or quesadillas but ended up getting a bowl of chili.

The peanut M&Ms are GONE!!! but I bought Milk Duds for the movies. For some reason I can't see a movie without them. At least when my tooth was hurting I didn't touch'em. You watch - next week I'll have another tooth ache. The caramels and the Milk Duds can't be good for me.

uh oh! Must get rid of the milk duds!

You are doing great with your exercise this month!!! :worship: Those pounds will come off - just stay away from the milk duds!

Actually, I was reading in Parents Mag (June issue, I think - I'm behind) about healthier snacks when away from home. For the movies, Twizzlers were suggested as better than popcorn (no cholesterol, little fat, whole lot less sodium and calories) and Junior Mints as an alternative to a chocolate bar (fewer calories and fat). So try Junior Mints instead of the Milk Duds, maybe? :teeth:

Hey Jane!!

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, just busy with summer stuff, and vacation, now back into the real world.

Totally understand about the weight up and wondering how could you have been down that low, I was, at one point, at 120, and now 137. something and I hate it. Expecially just getting back from vacation, I knew I'd go up a bit, but now the hard work of pushing it back down!!! And DH came home and had lost weight. I don't get it. On the other hand, knowing where you have gotten to before proves it isn't impossible to do it again!

Well, have a good weekend.

We started ours here with DD(21) having several friends for a Pirates party, they all dressed up and watched the first movie, then had tickets for the midnight showing of the new one. I love Johnny Depp, pirate: but generally don't like sequels, so not sure if I'll go to it at some point or not. I know I did snack on way too much stuff last evening.

I made it thru 2 1/2 hours of Superman. Dh enjoyed the movie. I thought it was just ok. The story line was just a little weird for me but I loved the opening credits. The actors did a fantastic job. Everyone else in the world seems to have loved it so I guess I'm in the minority. I was glad I had my Milk Duds to chomp on - I only fell asleep once.

Last night for dinner I had 1/2 soft taco and corn on the cob. I added black beans to my taco so I wouldn't use as much meat.

Tonight we're making taco salads. I love that taco stuff its so versatile. Once I have everything fixed I can make many different meals with it from tacos to salads to quesadillas and nachos.

Today I did 45 minutes of walking. I started later than usual and it got HOT. At 35 minutes I was almost afraid I wouldn't make it back home. Actually, it wasn't the heat as much as that darn humidity. Next time I'll know to start earlier.

Anna, the junior mints sound really good - I've definately got to find something to eat besides Milk Duds in the theater. I've been doing it so long I can't imagine watching a movie without them. I remember when Rosie O'Donnel had her show she talked about taking cheese into the movie theater. The Twizzlers are probably the healthiest. How come all the good stuff is bad for me?! :guilty:

Kate, welcome back!!!! :goodvibes I was worried about you. I'm glad your posting again. Sounds like your having a great summer. At least I'm not alone in fighting my weight battle this summer. Congrats on hitting 120!!! Thats amazing. It won't be long until your there again. Its motivating for me to see how well you've done. We can do this!!!

I only fell asleep once.
Ok, sounds like the milk duds were necessary for Superman. :rotfl2: DH and I see so few movies, it doesn't sound like Superman will make the cut for us. Anyway, Superman will always be Christopher Reeve for me.

Taco stuff is great and my kids love it. I've got lots of raw tortilla's left over from company visits too. I think Mexican should be the menu for next week...

Sorry about the humidity, but good for you getting the walk in. :cool1:

I'm trying to fit in extra exercise during the day. Yesterday I had an errand to run downtown. After finishing the errand I drove to a park and put in a quick 10 minute walk. I'm thinking that every little bit helps.

I also decided to make my own dessert. I picked a quick one. I bought an angel food cake, mixed together Cool Whip Lite and blueberry pie mix and frosted the cake with it. It was delicious. I like Cool Whip Lite anyway but mixed with blueberries its really really good.

Yesterday's meals
#1 oatmeal w/apple, cinamon, raisins and almonds, nonfat milk
#2 nachos w/gr beef, beans, cheese, salsa, angel food blueberry cake, watermelon

#3 jalapeno cheese, fresh pineapple and corn on the cob

#4 angel food blueberry cake

Today
I made a plate with fresh fruit and jalapeno cheese squares for dh & I along with oj for meal #1

#2 1/2 onion bagel w/2 lf LC cheese spread, mocha bar
#3 1/2 ham sandwich on rye, lf cheese, mocha bar

Thats it for now.

Anna, I love taco stuff too. You can make so many different things with it once you've gotten all of your ingredients. Older ds came over this afternoon and I was able to make him beef & bean nachos in no time at all.

Speaking of Christopher Reeve. The Superman movie was dedicated to Christopher and his wife. It choked me up to see that on the screen after the movie. I'll miss him. I loved the first Superman movie that he made. It was one of my favorite all time movies.

Your dessert sounds yummy! Good idea getting exercise in where you can. I tend to not exercise if I know I don't have a big block of time, but your idea is a better one. Everything counts!

Now that you said that about the Reeve dedication, I'm gonna have to put the movie onto my Netflix queue for when it comes out on DVD. I've always liked Christopher Reeve and the way he and his wife handled his accident and aftermath only made me like them more. Did you see Deathtrap w/ him and Michael Caine? I saw it at the college movie theater and the audience about flipped when "Superman" kissed Caine :rotfl2: .
