Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

You have been doing pretty good with your food lately! You knew this was going to be a rough month with Mother's Day and your mom's b-day party. But you are doing really good getting back on track! :cheer2:

Keep it up, we will get through this weekend! :teeth:

Yesterday's dinner was another reuben sandwich with pineapple on the side.

Today:
#1 banana, cereal w/nonfat milk & 2 lf cheese stix
#2 1 slice of jalapeno cheese
#3 chicken salad, apple juice, mocha bar

15 minutes of walking - I'm trying to stay off my foot today since this weekend I'll be on it both days all day long.

Thanks Anna and Amy for all of your encouragement. :goodvibes With summer right around the corner its more important than ever to get back into great shape. I'm so glad I'm in size 12s this summer but 10s would be even nicer!

The only temptation we have this weekend is Saturday night. We're going out for cards, drinks & dinner - she makes awesome margaritas and I haven't had one in ages.

Saturday was 20 minutes of cardio

#1 cereal w/lf cheese, banana
#2 turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes
#3 chocolate cake
#4 2 margaritas, chicken fajitas

Today\
#1 granola bar
#2 granola bar
#3 LC chicken, granola bar
#4 2 peanutbutter crackers, apple juice
#5 2 long island iced teas, nachos

Wow, you did pretty good considering you were at a social outing! WHenever I drink, I might as well just call it a day since I will eat anything and everything in sight... You did good!

How is your toe? Are you getting caught uup on your exercise minutes? Only 9 days left!!! :goodvibes

I did 30 minutes of yoga this morning. Looks like I'm not going to make the exercise goal this month but having a goal hanging over me helped.

#1 2 lc cheese stix, oj and 1/2 banana
#2 1 lc cheese stick, 1 apple, oj

Amy, my foot is much better. Its funny, I stubbed my toe but after the initial injury my foot hurt up by my achilles & heel. It didn't bother me once this weekend and I was on my feet all day long. Thanks for asking.

Next week we're going to a picnic on the beach for Memorial Day, and I've been asked to bring my 7 layer cookies! Thats just a bunch of trouble. I could gain 5lbs just buying the ingredients for that dish. I think I'm going to substitute something a little lower in calories - like a cheesecake!

I gained 2lbs just reading your post! OK, my interest is piqued. Dare I ask what is in these cookies? I think I've had something like them before - does it involve a layer of chocolate chips and coconut?

And then you torture me even more by mentioning cheesecake... :stir: You're killin' me!!!!!! :scared: :crazy2:

7 layer cookies those sound delish. Can you share what goes in/on them just in case I am ever in the mood for sugar shock?

:)

Well Beth and Amy, chocolate chips and coconut are just the beginning! I'm going to see if I can do this from memory - I don't want to look up the darn recipe. Graham cracker crumbs with butter, choc chips, butterscotch chips, nuts, coconut and sweetened condensed milk - I think thats it - I'm afraid if I read the recipe I'll want to make it. I think that this recipe should be outlawed from this forum.

Today 30 minutes of free weights.

I also read an article about getting enough calories in the morning. In the a.m. our body releases a hormone after we eat that makes us feel full - the same amount of food in the p.m. does not have this effect. (First Mag - this month's issue.) So I made sure to have my oatmeal with an apple plus pinapple on the side at 7:30am.

forgot to post meals - dinner last night - LC cheese on 2 slices of rye bread, 3 chicken wings & 1/3 slice of choc pie ds brought over.

Dh fell asleep 5 minutes before 24 ended - missed the whole darn ending!
We didn't tivo it because we were tivoing Alias. He was so upset! I thought it was kind of funny! :lmao: :rotfl2: He'd been waiting all week for it. See what happens when you get in your fifities!

Bummer about DH missing 24! When we got TiVo I insisted that DH hook up the second satellite signal, so we can TiVo 2 programs at once, or TiVo one thing and watch a different channel. It's awesome!

I have had those 7 layer cookies before  :lovestruc  :lovestruc :cloud9: DON'T MAKE THEM! You are right, just mentioning those ingredients should get you banned from WISH. Your secret is safe with me... :ssst:

I agree with that mag article. In America, we eat the wrong way. Most of us eat a small breakfast, medium lunch and huge dinner. You are supposed to eat a big breakfast, decent lunch and small dinner, so your body has time during the day to burn off those consumed calories. I've gotten used to the 5-6 small meals per day, I just need to make sure my dinner portions don't get out of control.

Great job getting the workout in! :yay: :cool1: I need to do the same!

Glad your foot is feeling better.

At our house, they are called "Hello Dolly Bars" I don't know why. 7 layer cookie is much more appropriate. In any case, definitely one of those I can't have around things. I generally only make them at Christmas.

Big bummer on 24. We have missed the whole season this year! All is faithfully recorded on TiVo, but we got so behind with DH's travel schedule that we decided we'd try and catch up this summer ...

Eating more in the morning is definitely one of the harder things I am trying to do. I'm just not hungry in the morning. Sounds like you are doing good though. :cheer2:

Weigh in today was 154. I did 45 minutes of walking today. I love my morning walks.

For dinner last night I made reubens - per dh's request. He even watched American Idol with me! :goodvibes I also made myself one cosmopolitan for the occasion. Dh refused to drink a cosmo so I poured him a glass of white merlot!

Breakfast this morning was a bowl of cereal w/nonfat milk and 1/2 banana
#2 Cappachino (General Food Int'l Version)
#3 Sandwich w/ turkey & pepperjack cheese on rye bread, 1 banana, 2 mocha bars, oj

Amy, our Tivo set up is similiar - we can watch tv, tivo or dvd. So dh was watching tv while tivoing another program to watch later. I still think its hilarious that he fell asleep in the last 5 minutes. I TOLD him to drink coke or coffee or he'd never make it thru the whole 2 hours!

We can't tivo two programs at once, though. At least we've never done it. We can only tivo and watch tv or tivo and watch another tivo'd program - Dh is constantly saying he'd like another one for the bedroom - I love having tivo - its an amazing machine. I bought a Womens' World Magazine because it had an article on The DaVinci Code Diet. I'll let ya know how it looks.

Anna, I've :lmao: never heard of the name Hello Dolly Bars - but with the amount of fat grams & calories in one bar alone - its no wonder why they wore corsets in that movie.

Anna, you'll have fun catching up on a whole season of 24 during the summer. My son purposely does not watch it until the dvd comes out because he loves watching all the shows back to back over a long weekend. Thats gotta be enough adrenalin to last all year long.

Reubens sound yummy! Great job getting a morning walk in too!

We do have 2 DVR's - a TiVo upstairs and the cable company DVR downstairs (to record HiDef). I like TiVo much better though. It is much easier to use. Then we get to deal with which one will record what show. :rotfl2:

We started watch 24 on DVD when our youngest DD was newborn. We saw the first two seasons during her first two weeks. Ever since we always record the new season and watch a couple of shows at a time. I can't imagine just watching 1 hour and waiting a week! Of course, we haven't ever gotten a whole season behind before. Oh well. I just hope we haven't lost an episode. :bitelip:

If you can TiVo one channel and watch another channel, you should be able to TiVo 2 different channels at the same time (however, you wouldn't be able to watch a 3rd channel). Try it!

You and I are in the same boat right now - the weight jumped up a few pounds and has stuck. We need to get them off again! I think it will be easier in the summer since we are naturally more active. We can do it!!! :cheer2:

I broke down and weighed myself again - it was 152.2 - I'm going in the right direction.

We were out of town again today so I didn't get to workout yet.

Dinner last night was fajitas & cranberry juice.

#1 Breakfast at McD's - one burrito & 1/2 cinamon roll
#2 It was 6 hours between breakfast and lunch so we were starving. I made quesadillas, 4 mini snickers bites, orange flavored water

Anna, you've got the best of both worlds with a tivo and dvr. Glad to hear that tivo is definately easier to use. My friend got her daughter a tivo for Christmas one year. Her daughter could never figure out how to use it and just gave it away. My friend was so upset - if she'd known we could have helped her.

You've figured out the way to watch 24 - I'm amazed at how many people wait to watch them now.

Amy, I spoke with dh about tivoing to shows and he said that he heard that satelites have something different than just cable. I'll have to ask ds to be sure.

You're right, we can do this! I have been reading different articles & listening to tapes to remotivate myself. I was reading my weighloss journal from last year & a year ago I weighed 172.5. It doesn't sound like much in terms of total pounds lost but in clothing, energy & lifestyle its made a big difference. I can't believe that a year ago at this time that was my weight!

You have really come far in a year! Hmm, a year ago I was 138... I guess I should be happy I have maintained, huh? :confused3 And what are you talking about? 20lbs is A LOT of weight! Have you lugged around 2 10lb bags of potatoes lately? Give yourself a huge pat on the back and be proud of your accomplishment! :cheer2: :yay:  :cool1: :thumbsup2

We have satellite, do you have satellite or cable? I leave that stuff to DH - he knows how to make it work, I just record the shows... :teeth:

Any big plans this weekend? We are going to a party tomorrow and that it about it. I plan on lounging in and around the pool most of the weekend.

151.8!!! I don't have to change my weight on my siggie! :teeth: I'm getting my weight back down and I will do this! Yesterday, I set my goal at 139lbs. Thats a lucky 13lbs less than what I weighed yesterday. Now, I only have 12 more lbs to go! I've been listening to tapes, talking to friends, and reading articles on weightloss to motivate myself. All this and my reserved book, Desperate Networks - is in at the library.

A friend of mine set a goal of 5lbs for her vacation at the beginning of July. She's already fit and in good shape but is having trouble losing that extra 5 she gained from the recent onslaught of holidays. Its helping me to talk with her about what works for her. Sometimes ya just need a nudge to get out of a rut!

Today I did 30 minutes of a weight workout.

Yesterday -
#3 2 mocha bars
#4 cappachino (GFI brand)
#5 mocha bar

I hate coffee, never drink it but for some reason I'm craving coffee/chocolate products. Its much lower in fat than chocolate candy, Milk Duds or caramels - so I see this as an improvement.

Dh and I were so stuffed from the quesadillas I made that we could not eat dinner - thats what we get for eating in the midafternoon.

Today
#1 cereal w/ strawberries and slivered almonds, cappachino

Hi Jane,

Sounds like things are going well, keep it up! Hope you have a good weekend. :sunny:

I think it's great that you can substitute the coffee for chocolate! I do that with my FF Chai - at least it is made with milk and it gets rid of that sweets craving. I am almost out, I need to stop by Starbucks for some more mix!

I'm glad the scale is inching back down, you will be back in the 140's before you know it! :cheer2:

Way to go on the weight loss. So glad your scale is moving down again. :cheer2:  :cheer2:

I don't like coffee either. Love the smell, but need to put about 1/2 cream in to actually drink the stuff. I use Hot chocolate or Ovaltine in the summer to give me my chocolate "fix".

You have come along way in the past year! 20 lbs is a lot!

Thanks for stopping by my journal. I appreciate your insight since I am at the 170's end of the journey. Your journey inpsires me to keep going.

This long weekend has gone by so quicky I barely remember what I've eaten. I just know I ate way too much and I've been out of control.

Starting with today: Memorial Day on the Beach w/ friends and family
I skipped breakfast - lunch - 2 hotdogs, potato salad, salad, brownies, 4 glasses of wine

dinner - nachos, ice cream sundae

Sunday -
brunch at home - oatmeal w/apples, cinamon, slivered almonds, raisins and 3 mimosas, fresh pineapple & strawberries

dinner - junior whopper, 4onion rings w/ sauce

While playing cards I had 2 glasses of wine but no food.

Saturday;
cereal w/ slivered almonds & nonfat milk, blueberries
2 crab cakes, 4 slices of bread w/butter and a spicy mango sauce, flourless choc torte

I really really really need to incorporate exercise more into my daily life. When my boys were small I'd take them for walks in their strollers. As they got older we'd go for bike rides, swimming, boogey boarding, basketball, hiking etc. Now I found I don't do any of that stuff anymore. Its just gradually diminished now that our sons have "outgrown" us! Dh & I need to find ways to enjoy exercising - not just to workout to workout. No wonder why I gained all of that weight once they reached their teen years.

A friend of dh's is trying to get us involved in kayaking. We need to do something! WE need an entire lifestyle change since our lifestyle kind of dumped us. I just sat down today and realized how much less exercise we get. We were always busy with family activities but now that has changed and not for the better.

I know I can do better than I've been doing. I need to change my way of life - my habits - the way I do things. I want to live a healthy lifestyle - Nachos aren't worth it! I want to be thin & fit!

Kate, :) things were going a lot better before this weekend kicked into gear! I'm looking forward to a healthy, lowfat week!

Amy, I don't know what the scale would say as of now! However, I'm not even going to think about that. I'm going to concentrate on eating less calories & getting more exercise. Thanks for a great job in leading the :goodvibes May Exercise Challenge!

Anna, we're back to another week - I've got to concentrate on making better choices - back to my GFI cappachino - and forget the ice cream sundaes! It won't be long until your in the 160s. :thumbsup2 I couldn't believe how good it felt reading my old journal and seeing my old weight and realizing that its gone!
