Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Good job with keeping up with the kitty! I hate when mine sneaks out and I have to go on the cat hunt.

Hi Jane,

All I can say is, somehow find that motivation to get back into this. I know it has been hard for me too, but finally I'm sticking with better eating. (for this week, anyway!)

You had a fun evening, that would make me feel kinda weird meeting an old friend of DH's like that, but sounds like it was ok for you. It would be intimidating though, if she was so small, (and if she was very good looking as well!!) :teeth:

Congrats on the 10-minute jog!! That's something I have to start over and get back into every spring, since I'm too much of a weather wimp to go outside in the winter. Inside running doesn't work so well for me either, and I hate the treadmill!!

Have a good day, good luck with your food and exercise.

You won't believe what my weight was this a.m. -
151!!!

I stayed on program yesterday. I certainly didn't want to mess up. My problem is that I'm enjoying myself too much! I think the whole binge thing started with the chocolate bar at the bank. When I went to the bank on Tuesday I ignored the chocolate bars. I think they'll be there until March sometime.

Continuation of food for yesterday:

#2 lf cheese & ham sandwich on 9 grain bread w/ lettuce, tangerine
#3 LC cabbage roll, mocha bar, watermelon
#4 grilled chicken salad - I grilled out last night, put the chicken on the lettuce while it was hot & threw in pepper & onions. For dressing I used balsalmic vinegar - no olive oil.

I haven't eaten anything today. I think my body needs a rest from all of the sugary, glutany things that I've been feeding it lately.

As mentioned earlier, when I first weighed in this morning I was 151. Then I weighed in 20 minutes ago at 150.8.

Today's workout is lower body weights. I'm going to do that as soon as I finish this.

Amy your comment: "Your weight gain is most likely a result of eating so much bread so late at night. It will come off within the next day or so, don't worry!"

gave me hope. I guess it was just good ole bread bloat & not real weight after all. I got the EFL book yesterday. I decided to go to the library during my errand run. That book is HUGE! I'm so glad you mentioned it. The Moms Chicken Enchiladas and Santa Fe Chicken Soup look really good. I found your shrimp scamp recipe too. This will definately be a help in planning my menus for next week. I'll have to see if the library has the BFL women's book.

Beth, its so scary when my furbaby gets out. I'm hoping she'll be easier to control the older she gets.

Kate, thanks for the congrats on my 10 minute run. I agree with you that I love being outside for walking & running. I want to get a treadmill because it would be easier on my heels but I'm afraid I'd get bored with it. I hope your weather warms up soon.

150.8 - :Pinkbounc Now if I can just get under 150 again. .9 more lbs to go.

Yesterday I did my lower body weight workout.

I did 15 minutes of yoga this morning. I'm supposed to do cardio today but will probably do my upper body instead & switch to cardio tomorrow. I'll use low weights. My shoulder & neck are killing me. I just don't want to make it worse.

I didn't eat yesterday until 5m then I had dinner:
chicken in a bed of lettuce w/diced tomatoes & grilled peppers, (this was a small salad - I used about 1/4 of a checken breast), Smart One's keylime cheesecake

#2 2 slices of 9 grain bread w/lf cheese spread, cranberry juice

This morning I had a protein shake, cereal w/ 1/2 banana

Woohoo!!! :woohoo: I'm glad that bread weight came off! I know bread has that effect on me, which is a shame because I :lovestruc bread. I have learned to limit it to 1-2 pieces per day and I don't even have it every day anymore... :( The BFLW book recommends not eating bread/starchy carbs at all after 5pm.

I am so glad you found that book. It really does have yummy recipes in it and it makes me feel good knowing that it is healthy as well. Kinda gives you some extra motivation to stick to it!

You are doing awesome, I bet you are really excited that you are almost below 150 again! This time you'll make it stick! :cheer2:

Can't believe that we're back to another weekend. I'm going to be very careful this time.

Yesterday's workout was light weight upper body workout. Today I'm going to do cardio later in the day. I've been so busy this week that I switched my usual morning workouts to the late afternoon.

Yesterday's
#2 1/2 of LC Thai chicken meal, tangerine, mocha bar
#3 ham and lf cheese sandwich on 9 grain bread, mocha bar
#4 lf cheese sandwich on 9 grain bread, cranberry juice

Last night I fixed dh quesadillas - I didn't dare touch them. Actually I made them for dh two days in a row. And wouldn't you believe that he has lost 3lbs this week - he's 171. He's lookin' good! :smooth:

I've got to stay motivated losing weight so I don't weigh more than he does!!

Today's breakfast: protein shake & cereal w/ 1/2 banana

Amy, thanks for keeping me up to date with the weightloss books. I'll have to remember - no bread after 5pm! Thats a tough one!

Your eating looks a lot better! :thumbsup2 Great job resisting the quesadillas. I do believe there are some quesadilla recipes in the EFL book - check it out!

I got our Girl Scout cookies today... I am making a pact with myself to ONLY eat 2 cookies on Sunday, my free day. Or I could just put them in the breakroom and watch them disappear. That would be the smart thing to do. Why does the thought of that bring tears to my eyes? :sad1: :sad2:

You are doing great keeping up with your workouts. I can't wait to see you back in the 140's!!! :cheer2:

Hi Jane,

You're doing good, that scale will be moving downward soon!

Quasedillas - yum. I agree they are killers, though, its the cheese that does it for me. I have friends who use FF cheese, but I just can't tolerate the taste. I use reduced fat, but even then, really have to watch it. What kind of tortillas do you use?

I found these wheat tortillas from La Tortilla Factory, and they taste pretty good (after you brown them a bit in a sprayed pan) but they have only about 50 calories and very high in fiber.

Good luck this week, have a good rest of the weekend. :sunny:

This weekend went by fast! Friday night we had another couple over. Saturday dh & I were worn out - we ate dinner in front of the tv & watched the poker championships. Sunday we went to Chili's after I got off of work. I'm just going to list the whole weekend's food - not break it down day by day. Today's workout will be lower body weights.

breakfasts: cereal & protein drinks w/ fruit
lunches: LC dinners, oreo pudding
snacks: tangerine or oreo pudding

dinners: thin crust supreme pizza, 3 champagne; thin crust pizza, 1 coke, chicken fajita nachos, choc chip cake

one late night snack: 4 tortilla chips w/lowfat cheese, 1 coke

After I drank the sodas I didn't feel all that good.

Today I woke up and it was cold outside. I decided to have soup. I fixed one of the Cambell's microwavable cans. One can has 2 servings so I divided the can up between breakfast & lunch.

Last night I watched Discovery Health Channel. They had the story of the 750lb man on. It was heartbreaking. I just couldn't believe the devastation that overeating caused in this man's life. He got to the point where his knees could not support his body. I would have thought that would be the low point in his life - the point where he would get help. But unbelievably, it wasn't - not even close.

He eventually got to the point where he could no longer get out of bed. He laid in bed with just sheets covering him. He couldn't sit up or anything. After 7 years of this he finally went to a nursing home for overweight people. The only reason he went this route was this his landlord kicked him out & he had no where else to go.

Even at the nursing home he fought with staff about his eating choices. He clearly was not motivated to change his eating habits & ended up dying at age 39. Scary scary show.

Amy, dh loves gs cookies and always buys a few boxes. However, he knows how to portion them out. Usually he'll keep them on a high shelf where I don't see them. I love the tagalongs.

Kate, I just buy the plain old white flour tortillas. On BFL I'm not supposed to have the white flour ones so I should look out for the whole wheat ones. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to see if my grocery store carries them.

Usually for the quesadillas I use regular cheese. I love Laughing Cows lf cheese, and I use those on my breakfast burritos so I should try using them on my quesadillas. For the fajitas, most of the time I don't even miss cheese - especially when the chicken & peppers are hot off the grill.

I've seen its and pieces of that documentary. I hope I get to see the whole thing at some point because it sounds so interesting!

That is a really disturbing documentary! I've had times where I've just completely lost control with eating (like last night  ) but I always feel totally rotten about it afterwards. It seems like that guy just never felt rotten enough about it to fix it. How sad for him.

You should be able to find the wheat tortillas. If your grocery store does not have them, Hi Health has some that are really high in fiber and low in carbs. I always grab a pack when I am there, but usually get the wheat ones from the store.

It really isn't fair that men can eat just 2 cookies and put them away. What is up with that? And when they say they want to lose weight, pixiedust: it comes off just like that. NOT FAIR! Boy, I'm grumpy today...

You are making progress on your journey to permanently move into the 140's! :teeth:

"Never eat more than you can lift." Miss Piggy

Just thought that I'd start today with a badly needed quote. Every little bit helps!

My weight is 151.6.

Yesterday I did the lower body weight workout.

meals #2, #3, & #4 - each meal had one bowl of soup & one tangerine

Today I'm going to make breakfast burritos & my workout will be a 20minute jog walk.

Beth, the worst thing about the documentary was it wasn't the only one. Later that night I recorded a reshowing of the half ton man. It was more of the same. However, this guy lost the weight, had his stomach stapled, was sent home and continued to lose weight.

They also did a short piece on another guy who got down to 195 and gained back most of his weight. He was stuck laying on his bed most of the time. As he was laying in bed he'd snack. I can't imagine laying flat on my back - eating.

Amy, we're going to do this!!! Your cruise is right around the corner. You're going to look great in your new swim suits. I need to get into a smaller size too. In March we have two big parties coming up. First is a big family birthday party for three different people including dh. Next, we've been invited to a St Patrick's Day Party. Both are big and will have people I haven't seen in ages. I definately need to lose some more weight before these dates come up.

I'm sure the people you haven't seen in a while will be shocked at how thin you look. Sounds like fun, but also tempting - you can get through it! :cheer2:

How did you survive on soup and tangerines for a whole day? I would have been chewing my own fingers off by the end of the day!

I love your quote. I do believe I violated it on Monday...

Let's get out of hover mode and get those scales moving! pixiedust:

"If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning."
Catherine Aird

This is one of my favorites. I've got it in my weightloss notebook. I think I've even used it here before.

My weight today was 150.8. One pound down.

Yesterday I did a 25 minute jog walk.

Yesterday's lunch was a turkey sandwich on a tortilla with a banana & a mocha bar. Dinner was shrimp scampi, mocha bar & grape juice.

For breakfast today I had oatmeal, protein drink & watermelon.

Today's workout is upper body weights.

Amy, the shrimp scampi was delicious. It was a fast meal to fix. My kind of cooking! Tonight I've decided to make the Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches. We've got celery & carrot sticks and I'll make the Blue Cheese Dip that goes with it. After seeing this recipe it looked too good to pass up.

You're right we can do this and the scales are going down!!!!! :cheer2:

I love your quotes!

How was the Buffalo Chicken? If it was good, I could make my own healthy version of Chili's Boneless Buffalo wings! :hyper:

Only 1lb to go and you will be in the 140's! Once you are there, you need to be extra diligent about your eating until you are down to about 145. That way you can have a 5lb window in case you need it, but STILL be in the 140's even if you have a "bad food" weekend! I know, it sounds so easy... You can do it! :cheer2:

Have you tried the chocolate oatmeal yet? I had it again this morning. I really like it!

"Don't look back. Something may be gaining on you." Satchel Paige

This is a quote I need to remember when I get discouraged for getting stuck so much. I've just got to keep pressing ahead.

I forgot to do my workout yesterday. :confused3 I won't look back. First thing this morning I did my upper body workout.

My weight today was was 150.8.

For lunch yesterday I had pretzels w/ lowfat cheese and a banana with grape juice.

My dinner yesterday was the Buffalo chicken sandwich. It was really good. I ate the carrot & celery sticks with the dip as I prepared the food. I don't think the recipe allowed enough cooking time. It said 6 min on each side with medium low heat. I put my stove on regular medium heat and did 10 minutes on each side. It was very spicy - I loved it.

Amy, as you can see I really liked the Buffalo chicken sandwich. I think that I'd like to slice up the chicken after cooking & put the slices in the hot sauce. That way I could either eat them in a salad or with a knife and fork. The sandwich got a little messy.

You're absolutely right. I have to get down to 145lbs. Not only will I have some leeway then but and most importantly - I won't be overweight anymore. Technically speaking anyway. According to the bmi calculator at 145 I'll be average!!! I can't weight.

Perfect quote for me today!! Thanks for that.

You will do fine, no looking back. You have so much dedication and determination, it will happen, eventually. That getting stuck is soooo hard, and can be discouraging, I know that myself, but you just have to keep on, and finally it will pay off.

Have a good weekend!! :goodvibes

Yum, I can't wait to try the Buffalo Chicken! Have you tried any other recipes lately? I'm dying to hear how the relleno casserole is...

Your eating looks much better lately, keep it up! :cheer2:

On to another day - the weekend is closing in!

Yesterday
#1 protein shake, watermelon, cereal w/nonfat milk

#2 Buffalo chicken sandwich (the chicken was thick so I sliced it down the middle & had one sandwich for lunch and one for dinner) - carrot & celery sticks

#3 3 lf mozz sticks, grape juice

#4 Same as #2

#5 lf cheese & pretzels, grape juice

Yesterday I was moving stuff out of older ds room. When he got married we ended up using his room as a spare room - suitcases, workout equipment, weights plus a bunch of stuff from younger ds. I spent the day packing stuff up & moving it out. I injured my back trying to move my Total Gym 1000. I was trying to pack it up the wrong way & ouch!!

Workout: Thank God, today the pain is gone. I was careful on my workout. I didn't jog just walked fast for 25 minutes. I just didn't want to knock anything out of kilter.

#1 protein shake & watermelon
#2 - took Mom out for lunch - broccoli salad, spaghetti, garlic bread, 3 bites of ambrosia.

Kate, I'm hanging in there! At least I'm in the low 150s now instead of the high 150s - I just need to get to the 140s.

Amy, I decided not to make the chili relleno casserole after I saw the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Its very good - very hot - very spicy but very good. Tonight we're grilling out chicken & peppers for fajitas.

How ironic - you injured yourself moving your workout equipment... I am glad that you are feeling better - back pain is the worst!

I still need to make some fajitas! I know the kids would like them (without the peppers and onions anyway).

What are you going to do with the spare room once it is cleaned out?

I already misbehaved yesterday and tonight is looking grim... Oh well, I will be overeating and drinking on my cruise pretty soon, I might as well get my body used to it... :rolleyes2
