Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

You are awesome! What great goals - you have motivated me to make some of my own! You are going to do it this time because you are extra motivated, I can tell! People gain weight in different ways. And of course you can't lose it where you want to... I'm sure your face doesn't look as fat as you think it does. We are our own worst critics!

Have a blast at your party. You got all the groceries you need to start BFL on Monday. Are you going to take a before and after picture? I think I'm going to, so I can see what progress I've made.

You are kicking butt on the exercise minutes! I haven't worked out since the 24th... But I won't have any problem getting back into the swing of things on Monday! You are doing great, keep up that positive attitude! :cheer2:

How was everyone's NYE? We had a great time. I ate too much and felt stuffed. We had the main potluck at 7pm, then desserts were brought out at 9pm, popcorn at 11pm, and the sparkling wines at midnight. There were way too many homemade baked goods. I definately overindulged and felt bad because of it. We were home by 2:30am. I had to work today - I'm just thankful I didn't have to get in a workout.

Tomorrow I'm going to be working so I may not have time to check in before work. My plan for the day is:

protein shake, ginger pear
lf cottage cheese
tuna wrap, frozen veggies
protein shake
salmon patties, sweet potato, veggies
protein shake

I hope these are right. I still haven't finished reading the book.

My workout for tomorrow is an upper body 45 minute workout. I still have to figure that one out!

I spoke with a relative today about losing weight. He and his wife are going on Michael Thurmond's 6 week makeover program tomorrow. We're planning on comparing notes at the end of the week.

I asked dh to get in the hot chix wings from his sports bar for my meal tonight. There were good!

Kate and Tracy, thanks for stopping by. Here's to a happy & healthy new year!

Amy, thats a great idea about the before and after pics, but, I'm horrible with pics. When the kids were small I was much better. I now have pics in one of my disposables from 3 years ago! Ds & dil got us a digital camera for Christmas. I'll just have to figure out how to use it. Are you ready for tomorrow?!

Great job setting those goals...they are very realistic! What's the BFL book?

Woohoo!!! :Pinkbounc  :cool1: :cheer2: I am ready! I just had my first meal of Egg Beaters and Oatmeal, with 20oz of water. I am getting ready to go to the gym in about an hour. I am going to stick to my regular workout routine. If I don't see results in the first 2 weeks, I will switch to the BFL plan.

Have your DH take a picture of you in a bikini or even your underwear (no one else has to see it!). That way you can see for yourself how much you have improved your body!

Your plan for the day looks great. WE ARE GOING TO DO IT! Let's just concentrate on getting through one day at a time. :teeth:

breakfast: protein shake 120/0
lunch: 2 bean wraps w/lowfat cheese, tomatoes & green onions 500/7

1 hour after lunch: 3oz oj w/glutamine - I'm supposed to take the glutamine with water but it tastes so bad I use oj. Its fresh from my tree though.

As you can see I got behind on my food intake. I ate breakfast at 9:15am and didn't have lunch until 1:45pm. I'm planning on having dinner at 6pm. That will leave me at 8:30pm for one more meal. I'm behind two meals today - I'll have to plan better tomorrow.

Workout - I did the upper body workout today. I had to keep telling myself to s l o w d o w n. I'm so used to doing the cardio type workouts where you fly thru the weight exercises. It took me 40 minutes instead of 45 minutes so next time I'll try to go even slower. I used 5, 8, 10, & 12lb weights. The last set was always tough. The biceps and triceps were the most difficult of all.

Jennz, BFL is Body For Life. I was able to pick the books and tape set up at my library. They also have a website which has a ton of information about the program.

Amy, you're off to a great start with that breakfast. I'm doing the same thing with the cardio that your doing with your gym. I just started getting back into jogging and I'm still on walk a minute, jog a minute. I'm going to follow the beginner jogging program. It does change in intensity which is what BFL emphasizes. I'll just have to cut down on my warm up/cool down walks because that puts me over the 20 minutes.

I'm going to quit counting exercise minutes and just go by my workouts since this seems to work better with the BFL program.

Great job for your first day! Are you sore from the workout? I didn't get to the gym like I wanted, but at least I did an exercise DVD. I also had a hard time fitting all the meals in, but I think that will become easier as time goes on.

You are doing great, KEEP IT UP!!!!! :cool1:  :cool1:

I've heard of BFL, it sounds great. My neighbor did something similar to BFL and he lost over 100 pounds and looks great! He eats more now than he ever has. Good luck with it!

Hi there!

Sounds like you have made a great start to the New Year! Keep up the good work! :cheer2: I may have to check into Body for Life. It sounds like a good program. ::yes::

Have a great day today! :sunny:

Except for the fact that I forgot to eat my veggies w/dinner and missed half of my meals yesterday, I did fantastic! LOL! I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Dinner last night: salmon patty w/red onions, eggbeaters, bread crumbs and lime mayo with green onons, sweet potato w/cinnamon & nutmeg. I've come to the conclusion that sweet potatoes without butter & sugar taste awful. I only ate half of mine then I forgot to eat the veggies.

Today's workout: walk jogging: jog a minute, walk 90 seconds - repeat 7 more times. I also do a 90 sec warm up and 3 minute cool down.

meal 1: protein shake
meal 2: eggbeaters w/cottage cheese & green onions, 1 banana
meal 3: I'm planning on a leftover salmon patty w/ veggies
meal 4: planning on: chix fajita nachos - no cheese: grilled chix, grilled peppers & sauteed onions, chopped tomatoees & chilis, tortilla

It looks like I'm only going to do 4 meals today.

Amy, was I sore from the workout???? Are you kidding? Thank God, I don't have to do my arms again until Friday! Thats one tough workout. Thanks for cheering me on!

Jennz, thanks for the positive report on a BFL type program. It helps to stay on track when you know the program works!

Tracy, thanks for stopping by! I hope you're able to get in the fall trip to Disney. We always have a blast during the wine festival.

Jane, try Butter Buds and Splenda or cinnamon on your sweet potatoes. I love those things! Of course I might not after eating them so much these next 10 weeks... I just realized I will be eating plain sweet potatoes for lunch today - I forgot my spices!

You are doing really good! It will take some time and planning to get all 6 meals in, but you will get there! Just think, you are already one day closer to your goal!!

Just stopping by to wish you well! I'm definitely impressed by your workouts--you're doing such a great job! Keep it up! :cheer2:

Today was my lower body workout. It has too many lunges for me. I'm definately going to check out some other workout books for some exercises to substitute. My lunge limit is 12. My knees won't take much more. In spite of that the workout went by quickly.

breakfast: protein shake, oatmeal w/ 1/2 apple cooked &cinnamon & 1/2 apple raw, nonfat milk

lunch: 1 salmon patty, rice w/ mushrooms and peas

snack: 1 banana, 1 tsp of lf cottage cheese - yeck! I can't stand that stuff.

Last night I had a night snack - lowfat cheese and jalapeno crackers. I definately went overboard. That combination is just too good.

Tonight I think we're going to have the chix fajitas again. Tomorrow I'll make tilapia.

Amy, I hadn't even thought of splenda along with the butter buds. I've got one more sweet potato left - I'll have to try that. How'd that spiceless sweet potato turn out? The right ingredient can make a big difference.

Thanks for stopping by Pearliq. I'm trying to rev up the workouts a little. I got so bored with what I was doing earlier.

Have you tried putting fruit in the cottage cheese? The thought of that makes me want to gag, but a lot of people do it. They even sell it with fruit already in it. Is it the texture or the taste that you don't like?

My sweet potato was just fine with no spices. I actually ate one plain on purpose today for lunch!

I also hate squats and lunges. There are all sorts of leg lifts you can do while lying down. There are also lots of Pilates moves from tabletop position that work your glutes.

You are doing great, keep it up! :cheer2:

workout: 20 minute jog walk - 2 min jog, 1 min walk keep repeating until 20 minutes are up

breakfast: eggwhites, peppers, green onions, lf cheese, 1/4c cooked oatmeal w/cinnamon and lowfat milk

I'm actually starting to feel a bit thinner today. I don't know if its the weights, the jogging or the food but I feel great.

Amy, thanks for the recommendation on Healthometer. I've been searching the internet & couldn't find your model #. I found several on some internet sites but I wasn't familiar with the websites & didn't want to give out my cc to them. I finally found a version of healthometer - Healthometer Body Fat Monitoring Scale at Walmart.com. Since I felt comfortable with Walmart I went ahead and ordered it. This one doesn't have the lithium battery that the scales on the medical sites had. I hope its just as accurate. This one uses AA batteries instead. The bad thing is I only saved $5 by going with Walmart, & I bet the ones on the medical sites are better.

Maybe I'll trying adding cinnamon and fruit to the cottage cheese. I think I hate the whole darn thing - texture and taste. I also can't stand yogurt. I still haven't had any chocolate cravings. A year ago I was craving Dove Chocolates everyday - so this is a BIG improvement for me. Wish I could eat plain sweet potatoes!

That is great that you are feeling thinner! I'm sure it is a combination of everything you have been doing. You are finally letting your body know who's the boss... :goodvibes I have also not been having cravings for sweets and I have packed the kids' lunches for 2 days in a row without wanting to eat a couple pretzels or Cheetos or whatever I am packing them. YIPPEE!!!

I am a severe texture freak and the only cottage cheese I will eat is Knudsen's Fat Free (I believe it is Breakstone on the east coast). It is not runny at all and it has little lumps instead of big slimy lumps. They make the combo packs with the fruit and cottage cheese. Yogurt is definitely an acquired taste. Have you tried Yoplait Whips? They are mousse-like texture and they are really good. They come in flavors like Key Lime Pie, Pina Colada and Orange Cream.

I got my scale about 4 years ago - they probably don't make it anymore! Oh well it still works. I think as long as the scale you got is consistent (and you weigh yourself about the same time every day for a direct comparison), you will be fine.

You are kicking some serious butt, keep it up! :cool1:  :cheer2:

Today was my upper body workout. Its supposed to take 45 minutes & it only took me 38 minutes so I must be going too fast again.

For my snack yesterday I added shredded apple & cinnamon to lowfat cottage cheese. It wasn't bad. I could actually eat a 1/4C of the cheese.

Dinner last night was tilapia w/a lemon wine sauce & capers. I did add about a tsp of butter to the sauce - my portion had 1/2 tsp. With the tilapia I had rice, peas & mushrooms.

Breakfast today was a protein drink & apple cinnamon oatmeal.

Lunch: Protein shake

Amy, I'll have to give Breakstone cottage cheese a try. It always tastes sour to me - & that doesn't help. With the shredded apple and a ton of cinnamon it changed the texture and the taste. The yoplait whips sound good. In the past, I've tried the fruit/cottage cheese packs, and I had to throw them out because no one would eat them. Dh likes cottage cheese w/salt & pepper - ugh!

I can't wait to get my scale. Its supposed to arrive between Tuesday & Friday of next week. The grocery store I usually go to has had a broken scale for about a month. I ended up going to another grocery store that I don't like as much just to get weighed. I like only weighing myself once or twice a week. I know at home I'll be weighing myself everyday. That won't be too bad if its just once a day, & I don't let it affect my morale.

I got my hair done yesterday. The older I get the darker my hair keeps getting. It was dark brown, & I couldn't lighten the color with the over the counter haircolors. The lady who cuts my hair did an ash brown on my hair & then put in light brown hightlights. It worked. Its lighter but looks natural. I was glad to get that done.

Amy, I'm glad you don't have sugar cravings anymore either. Its much easier to stay on program now.

You are doing great with your workouts! I don't think it matters that you did it 7 minutes faster as long as you are doing all the exercises and getting a good workout! And if you were sore the next day you did something right!

My hair keeps getting darker too! I hate it! I used to be really blonde and now I am dark blonde (according to my hairdresser - I think it is light brown). And you know what I saw this morning? A GRAY HAIR! I couldn't believe it! I plucked that thing out right away. Now I am going to be super paranoid and checking for gray hairs all the time...

My dad always put cut up canned peaches or pears in his cottage cheese. When I was in Norway I got hooked on yogurt with jam mixed in. Maybe you could try that with the cottage cheese? Get some of that Smuckers All Fruit kind? I used to hate yogurt but I made myself eat it a lot because it has a lot of health benefits. Cottage cheese is a really good and easy source of protein. If I were you I'd try a couple different ways to make it taste better for you, but if you don't like it, there are plenty of other protein choices out there for you!

Dinner last night was a salad with grilled chicken, onions, tomatoes, lf cheese, chili's & salsa with 1/2C of chili beans on the side.

I did my 21 minutes of jog walking today - walk one minute, jog 2 minutes - 7X. This is my easier on my heels and knees than trying to walk for 45 minutes. The time goes by quickly but I get in a great workout.

After my jog/walk I picked 4 bags of oranges off of our tree. Dh & I made fresh squeezed oj while I sipped a protein drink. We ended up with 2 1/2 gallons of oj which should last us about a week.

breakfast: eggwhite scramble w/ lf cheese, grilled chicken, tomatoes & chilis, 1 banana, 1/4 apple.

Watch out for those grey hairs, Amy. They have a way of sneaking up on you. Fortunately, the cottage cheese w/ shredded apple & cinnamon is edible so I'm relieved I can actually eat cottage cheese now. The sugar free jam sounds like a good idea too. We finished the first week of workouts!!! Woo woo!
