Hi everyone,

We (My husband and girls - 3 and 5) are going to Disney World January 27-Feb 2, 2004. I was wondering if anyone has been to Disney world around that time and if you had any information you could share. I am not really sure what the weather will be like. Shorts or pants? Were you able to go to the water parks? How were the crowds and so on? Any and all information would be appreciated! Thanks :Pinkbounc

I've gone then! It's a great time to go to Disneyworld....not such killer heat, less crowds, etc. We went to an off-site water park (Wet & Wild) when we went, and it was nice, but I know that some days were cooler than I would've liked for swimming. But it made the time in the park WONDERFUL.

Pack sweatshirts just in case, and a pair of jeans.

It gets dark earlier, so light sticks and glowing things are more fun. :-)

The weather can be completely unpredictable and you won't really know until the weeks just before your trip. We are going the week after you. We went last December and the temp averages are listed as the same - mid 50's to mid 70's for both Dec, Jan, and Feb. We wore jeans daily because it was so chilly in the morning. I brought 'cuddle duds' (thin silkly undergarment shirt) and put them on for the morning and once it warmed up I went to the bathrrom, took it off and wadded it up in the backpack and then had it again if we stayed out to the evening. I've heard some people say they've had days in the 80's so really you just need to wait to see what the weather patterns are the week before.

Did one trip over MLK weekend in Jan and it was 80 degrees everyday, no rain!

Next trip, mid-Feb... never above 70 degrees, rain a few times and down right cold at night (wished we'd had polar fleece!)

Watch the 10 day forcast and pack a little of everything. We did a load of wash on the Feb trip to clean jeans and sweatshirts, it cost about $8-10 but that was way cheaper than buying everyone a clean, new sweatshirt!

Crowds can be low which is nice. I'd still make PS for the more popular resturants.

Have fun. I'll be there the last week of Feb, hoping for warm weather.:sunny:

That's a great time to go! We took our first winter WDW trip last year the first week of February and had a blast! The crowds were very low!!! I don't think we even picked up any Fastpasses, we just didn't need to! Plus last year the weather was terrific. I brought a range of clothes, but we ended up in shorts and short sleeves everyday! We even swam everyday! We're hoping for a similiar great time this coming winter! :) Enoy your trip!

DH and I went over MLK weekend this past year. It was 36 degrees in the morning and didn't get higher then 50 a couple of days and hit 68 once. It was cold at night watching the finale shows. However, it was a great time to go. We walked on to every single ride..especially the water rides;)

There was no one there which is fine with us. Most of the rides are indoors so as long as it is not pouring rain..you should be okay for dong everything you want to see. Just track the weather and pack two types of clothing..warm and cold. We didn't and we were cold!

Thank you all for your posts. I am thinking I need a lot of luggage. It has been 4 years since my family has been to disney world (October 99) and it will be my 3 year olds first time. I am so excited I can hardly stand it!

We will be at WDW Jan 24 - Feb 2 2004.
I have been wondering the same things about weather and crowds.
We went the two weeks after Labor Day in 2002...loved the crowds not the heat.

We went the first week of Dec in 2002 and 2001 and the weather was very unpredictable. Freezing in the morning and in the evenings and nice and warmish during the day-even wore shorts a couple of days, but would have been comfortable in jeans.

We are also going in January of next year (trying to avoid the holiday crowds this time) and I plan on packing the same way I did for my December trips. We will be there Jan 25-31. I plan on doing laundry one day so I can pack less. This is generally what I pack for my 7 day winter trips per person and it has never let me down! (email me or pm me if you want the complete packing list):

3 tee shirts
3 long sleeve tees
2 pair of jeans
1 pair of athletic type pants or sweats
2 pair of shorts
1 sweatshirt
1 heavy type jacket (not down but water resistant nylon with sweatshirt type lining)
1 hat
1 pair of gloves ( we really have needed these at night!)
Our old rain ponchos from AK
socks/ underwear

For the kids (2 boys 5 and 7) I pack the above plus a couple of pair of long underwear that they can layer and take off/put on when needed along with extra socks and regular underwear.

I found on both of our last 2 trips we packed perfectly for the weather and did not have to purchase anything while there. Well actually we did have to buy DH a sweatshirt one morning when we went to AK for early entry. He left his sweatshirt in the room thinking it wasn't cold enough and he would be fine. After waiting 15 minutes in line for the park to open he was like an icicle and we had to buy him a sweatshirt (mine now!) for $40 ! What a fool!

The crowds should be as light or lighter than they were for our Dec trips, and the parks should be closing at about those times as well. This means all parks will close by 6 or 7 except for World Showcase which is open until 9:30. This works perfect for us since we so all the other parks during the days and save Epcot for the evenings! Illuminations will be on, but the fireworks at MK most likely will not be. We LOVE how it gets dark earlier-it really does make you want to buy a bunch of those glowy/light up thingys!

We never ended up doing the water parks, but we did do the hot tub at our resort (BCV) a couple of nights. It was nice and relaxing and only a little cold when running back to the room! Lots of people were swimming, but we are from AZ so we don't have that thick skin!! Luckily, since we don't do the water parks anyway during the winter trips, we just buy regular hoppers instead of plus hoppers or UPH and that saves us lots of $$ to put towards more character meals and souviners. We find for the amount of swimming we would do, the resort pool is just fine. Also, if you want to do a water park, I think only Blizzard Beach will be open in Janury of 2004 due to rehab of Typhoon Lagoon which starts the end of Dec. We just didn't see the point of an UPH if we couldn't visit everywhere with it.

Maybe we will see you there!

Carrie,

I know the feelIng (the extremely long time). Hopefully, the time will pass as fast as the summer did. Thanks for the information!

We went to WDW in January. When we arrived GF's fountains were solid ice, coldest night in 100 years. Other than the cold this was the best time to go. We got great rates at GF (bought one AP to get AP rate), no crowds at the attractions or restaraunts (sp). CM's were nice, many thanked us for coming out in such cold weather.
Have fun, this will be our permanent time to go.

deb- so when can we *hopefully* expect to see the AP rates for January?

I have never been there at any other time but I live near some killer parks and compaired to the crowds there.....it is dead that time of year at Disney!

Pack shorts, long pants, sweaters and t-shirts. Generally we start the day with long pants and sleeves and by the end of the day something has been removed. All I can say is layers are wonderful! It is great for early morning when it is cool and late night shows. Also, sometimes the A/C is a little over kill. Sweater that are easy to tie around your waist or over your shoulders are the best. I have been there when it SNOWED (and I am not kidding, I am from Ohio, I know what snow is!) I have also been there when it was nice a warm and wonderful. Just pack in range and have a blast!!!

We have went twice in early january. Bring an assortmant of clothes, the weather is unpredictable. Some days it may be in the 60's and you need a sweatshirt for the evening, and some days it hits the 80's. We were there and it would be chilly and rain and then the next day we were sweating and back in shorts. The lines are short with no fastpass required or PS's, and the hotels are cheap. We love going then and it's still better than the blizzards and 20-30 degrees in NY.

We have been to WDW the same week (last part of Jan/first week of Feb.) for the last two years as well as 1998. It is an exceptional time to visit.

Weather - usually cool but always unpredictable. Last year we saw over 80 degrees but much cooler in previous years.

Crowds - Never a problem getting PS. Only need to use EE at MK for Pooh, Dumbo etc. Follow the general guidelines on which days to visit the respective parks.

Stay away from AS Sports. There is a cheerleading competition during this time frame and the hotel is inundated with loud teens. We ran into this problem in 1998. Have stayed at WL more recently.

Finally, this is something for you and your family to look forward to after the Holidays.

Have a good trip.

We packed a bit of everything from jeans, jackets, shorts, tee shirts and ended up wearing jeans/sweatshirts/winter coats the whole time. Thank goodness we had the winter coats (we flew out of OH in a snowstorm) or we would have FROZEN most days. We saw people in summer clothes with Walt Disney jackets/sweatshirts from the gift shops over shorts who were just freezing. There were a few 70ish days where jeans and a tee shirt were fine. It was a nice time of year with no lines and dry weather - just pack for any type of weather!

I'm looking at arrival Jan. 31st - departing Feb 8th..

OR I could change it to arrival Feb. 5th - departing Feb. 14th..

I wonder which would be best? We were supposed to go this Dec. but those plans have had to change.. :(

Sure wish I had a crystal ball that would tell me which week would be better in terms of weather!! LOL
