Hi,

I have been reading the boards for a while, and it is so helpful here! We are in the process of planning a trip to SoCal in January, after my husband returns from his deployment. Is the beginning of January a good time to visit DL? I read that the Christmas season ends on January 8th, so it looks like we would experience the parks decorated for Christmas for one day. Do they shut things down to "un-decorate"?

Thank you in advance for your help!

January is quite a good time to visit. My family went in mid January, from the week after Martin Luther King Day and there were many walk-ons for rides. I'd expect the crowds to be similar for your dates.

When we were there, Its a small world was down for 'un-decoration' - and the week prior to when we were there, Haunted Mansion and (I think) Space Mountain were closed for holiday decoration removal. It's pretty hit-and-miss but from what I can remember, the dates of closures were announced by September.

Either way, it's Disneyland and there are plenty of other things to do whilst you're there!

Thank you so much!! We are basically first timers. I have been to DL once, almost 26 years ago. I will cross my fingers that IASW is open! I can't wait to see my DD's (6) expressions!

Not sure what you mean by "good time to visit". It all depends on your priorities. If you want to avoid crowds that is a pretty good time. If you want good weather, maybe not. If you want to avoid refurbs, that is a poor time to visit as January is a time DLR gets to work on ride refurbs.

Thank you HydroGuy! That was extremely helpful! I think based on what they have had to offer that same time frame over the past few years, we should be just fine. I am not sure that we would see any of the shows, so if they aren't offered, we really won't know what we are missing anyway. It looks like the majority of the rides have still been running at that time. Thank you very much for pointing me to the link!
