Jan. 22- 29 , 2011 Western Caribean Cruise on the Disney Magic!!!

Hello January 22nd cruisers!!

My name is Karla, and I think a few of you spotted me over on the main thread asking questions about various things, and I'm JUST now making it over here to the Meet thread.

No worries....we're not FE or exchange type of DISers- my DH is extremely ANTI-meet up with extra people on our vacation, or adding extra work and/or stuff for me to pack. Me- I would totally be into all of this- and absolutely LOVE the DIS! On our last cruise (almost 3 yrs ago! ) I kept looking at people in the terminal, wondering, "Are they on the boards? Is that so-and-so I wonder...." or seeing a group of people together and wondering if it was a Meet.

On this upcoming trip, however, I notice that there are lots of things that many of us are doing where we could potentially just "happen" to end up in the same spot: Captain Marvin's to Stingray City and Nachi Cocum! (Well, still waiting to make sure there's availability since last week when I held off bc DH wanted me to look into ruins some more...)

Anyhow---whatcha all got planned?? I started going through all 81 pages....but after reading seven or so pages, I decided I'd be up all night if I didn't just ASK!!

Looking forward to surprising our kids on Christmas morning in just 13 days!!

My family will be doing the Trolley Tour in Key West and Nachi Cocom in Cozumel but in GC we will be doing the dolphins. Maybe see you at Nachi!

Girl! Everytime you post on here you have been sick or hurt! Time to just stay INSIDE for the next month or so!

LOL! You have no idea! Before I was diagnosed CD I was ALWAYS sick and it turned out just to be what I was eatting. Saturday night was my own damn fault! I need to be more carefull. Every flu season with the kids in school I usually get the flu at least once around Christmas and since that was last week I should be good! I also have a condition I inherited from my father where my body fights itself causing join issues. Injuries are not an uncommon thing sadly. I know, I know, I am broken! At least I haven't the flu or injury today!

In Key West, we'll be doing the Trolley Tour (buying online to save $$) and going to Margaritaville, hopefully walking over to the Blonde Giraffe Key Lime Pie Facotory (I've been making their pie for Easter since 2001- but have never been there!), and then on to the Southernmost Point before Mallory Square and getting back on the big ship!

Giddy Rhino- I can't believe that you were even able to book a BRUNCH!?! I booked b4 the first timers could, and there wasn't any avail. They must hold some out......maybe I'll be able to get one a ressie on board.

As for our reveal.....we have "three extra" presents for each of them after the others have been opened.....they'll be in Cars Christmas wrapping paper:
- Matching Mickey PJs
- A "Marine Animals of the Caribbean and Florida Keys" for our oldest DS (9)
- "Flubber" on DVD for our youngest DS (6) - it's wnat he's looking forward to most- "MAKING FLUBBER! When can I go on the cruise and make Flubber!?" He wasn't old enough the first time.
- And lastly, a countdown calendar with numbers counted out on the paint sample Mickey heads that says "We are leaving for a Disney cruise in 26 DAYS!"

So excited......I can't stand it!

We plan on hitting Margaritaville too. Didn't go there last time but certainly did make it to Blonde Giraffe! Yummy!! I love your reveal ideas, you'll have to let us know how it goes! I think you will be able to get a brunch once on board...

We are going to set up a couple of meet times each day and just see who shows up and wants to do what. Also plan on specific card playing times on Sunday and sea days... PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the list once it's finalized...

I'm doing the online trolley tix too... We play spades and Giddyrhino plays bridge and Chrisse has a couple of different games to teach us that sound really fun. We are also bringing along our deck of Disney Princess Uno cards. We love that game, although we usually make the rule that you can't sit next to your spouse as that game has caused some fierce marital arguments sometimes! What do y'all like to play?

Just so you all know that Blonde Giraffe has gone out of business and all their shops have closed up in Key West. I verified myself when we were there in November.
Sad. Not sure why it happened. It was a very popular place.
So my question is: Where is the next best place to get key lime pie? I had a frozen one dipped in chocolate at Mathesons..it was pretty good.
Never did make it to Margaritaville when we were there. I have been to several other locations in the carribean. Very fun. Maybe we can meet up there at some point after your trolley tour.

HOLY COW!!!

First of all, that is super sad, as like I said, I've been making that pie of theirs for YEARS after finding the recipe in Islands Magazine back in 2001.

HOWEVER.....do you know how much grief you just saved me!?!? DH and the DSs would NOT have been happy to leave Margaritaville to walk 11 blocks over there for it to be CLOSED! Yikes!

I kind of wondered about that when I saw your post about going out for your birthday. You definitely sparked some controversy! Not surprised that got closed, it was getting ugly...

Celebrated my bday yesterday at my favorite little Blues Bar.

Watched or more like listened since i could nt see much from our table
to the Band and had like 5 appetizers and one WHOLE BOTTLE OF PINK CHAMPAGNE ALL TO MYSELF......

Well we had our Christmas party last night and I was having SO MUCH FUN... then we ate and I wasn't carefull... I must have had something contaminated with gluten(my guess is the turkey since there was stuffing in with it when I got it but I thought I would be ok....) well I ended up so sick! DH ended up bringing me home around 9pm! 9!!! Can you believe it! I felt fine after I slept for a few hours but by then everyone at our table had gone home so I just stayed in bed. So much for having a great party night! I fully expect to compensate with some great nights on the crusie! Anyone care to join me?

it's crazy how many things have gluten, sorry your Christmas party got cut short. we will be sure to help you make up for it on the ship

hey everyone!

Just wanted to say a very happy holiday season and New Year to everyone now! Not sure how much I'll be checking in 'til after the 1st of the year.

Going on a little side trip, then I have a minor surgery, then the holiday, then friends coming for the week after Christmas and new years eve, on top of work and my business... AH!
Good thing is all this is going to make Jan 22 be here before i know it!

I'll probably be better about checking in on the facebook group ... but if I'm not here... then talk to ya when there's less than 3 weeks left!

so just curious but am i the only one that is way behind this Christmas? I am almost done shopping but have done no wrapping, my tree is up but thats about as far as I got and I have yet to mail a Christmas card as i am still in the process of making them.

I think this trip has taken over my life but im ok with that.

Yup, I heard they reserve a certain number of seats per group (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Newbies like me!), but I had to frenetically logon at midnight to get it, not sure how long the seats remained available. I can bring you a crab leg if you want!

But seriously, if you go to the reservation desk on Embarkation day, or even if you call at Palo, you will probably get lucky, I imagine a lot of people change plans, are seasick, sleep late, etc.

DH only brings one suit and just a couple dress shirts then does his best to keep DS dirty hands off his suit until the end of the cruise so he can wear it twice
