Jan 2009 Code Watch

Disney is taking WAY tooooo long getting the codes out for us 'general' people.

Disney isn't obligated to give us discounts. It doesn't have to put the codes out, if there are codes, at any specific time. I think we are losing our perspective here. We aren't entitled to codes. They are merely a bonus.

Well if they want a bonus of people to come to the park during this economic hardship then they need to give us some CODES!!!

Hey! I'm not to far from you guys either.........W. Carthage. Howdy neighbors!;)

Howdy back! Got snow there yet? hahahaha:rotfl:
Not funny, I know! Hoping for some kind of deal here from Disney...I wanna go in Jan-but not without a deal!!! Do you plan to go soon?

Of course not! It's just this not knowing that makes me nuts! :scared: I just wish they'd say one way or the other.

I agree. Just tell us yes there will be one by...or sorry, we can't afford to give anyone any breaks!!!!:lmao:

I downgraded from waterview to standard view AAA rate last night and she asked me why, and I said (lied) 'the economy is killing me, I kept hoping for a great code and had kept my waterview room hoping for one, but decided the $150 can go on food and not a view'.
Hoping to put some food for thought there...
Truth is, I always wanted a standard view, but the AAA rate wasn't available when I booked before and took a waterview.

If you go to the AAA site and look, there are AAA rates available at all the resorts. This time last year (and I know because I was on top of all of it), the AAA rates were long sold out, as were many of the resorts. I know POFQ was sold out in late Oct for January (not just AAA, but sold out) and other resorts were too.
In a way, I would be happy with NO code, as I am ok with what I am paying right now, and it will keep crowds down. LOL.

So with the possibility of no code, I have some AAA questions.

Can you use it right after you sign up, or do you have to be a member for a while first? How long do you have to stay a member? (we only take vacations like this once every couple years, so not sure how much it'd benefit us outside of this) And how much is the membership again?

For those of you using it, what sort of savings could I get with my current res.? I've got 6 nights at POR, basic DDP, and a 6 day PH. It's costing us about $2200. (2 adults- our girls are both under 3)

And if I read right, you can transfer your reservation from Disney to AAA?

I can only answer the two last questions, since we get AAA for its car services and TripTiks; I prefer AAA directions to something like MapQuest.

AAA should get you 20% off the room portion of your package at POR in January, although there's that link for 25% off, above. It doesn't give you anything off your tickets or the DDP.

You should be able to transfer the reservation from Disney to AAA; ask a AAA agent.

You could do a room only via disney on the AAA rate (and yes, right after you sign up you can book), and then maybe buy your park passes separately. It might be cheaper to do this than a package if you are not doing dining plan. Check mousesavers for a link to a place to buy tickets a bit cheaper (not a LOT cheaper, but about $10 off). Then if you have put the $200 down on that res at disney, they can transfer it to the room only AAA res.

We actually looked into UT tickets but we really want to get the DDP.

ITA! I do think, when I read some posts on the boards, that it seems as though people feel they will get codes based on history and that just isn't the case. I have been kind of surprised to read the "free dining" chants. Yes...it would be nice, but free dining has NEVER been offered in January before. Would I love it if it were offered? Uh...yeah, but I am not holding my breath! For the last couple of years, January discounts have not been very good. I do think that with the status of the economy, and the recent 40% discount for passholders, that we will see some decent discounts. But, they aren't a given. Also, I understand why Disney waits some time in between issuing different types of codes. I assume that they want to see the impact of the code on room reservations before they determine they still have a good amount of vacancies that lead to issuance of another code for another particular sector. The AP code was just recently issued.

That said, I just booked my airfare :woohoo: but have no place to stay since I haven't booked my room yet. I would be very thankful :worship: and grateful  for any bone that Disney throws me in the form of discounts.

Okay, I've voted. Showed up when the polls voted, I was in and out in 5 minutes (the polls just opened here 40 minutes ago). Election day is over for me, so let's get back to finger crossing and altar sacrifices!

DH is working from home today due to that his building overlooks Millennium/Grant Park in Chicago and they order the building evacuated by 2pm today (Obama will accept from the open air stage in Grant Park and FBI will clear all high rises with a direct view of it).
So, today was my chance to sleep in. Well, I slept in for about 45 minutes until I woke up frantic that a code had been released. I agree it will likely be later in the week or next week before we see a code.
I REALLY hope it's a good one to make up for the waiting.

Sings in head "The Waiting is the hardest part".
:wizard:

I'm sorry - as far as I'm aware, the election isn't over yet - what exactly is he accepting :confused3

They are doing the same thing, from the place that John McCain will speak from. It's something they do every election.

lets not get all hyped up for the election..we are focusing on DISNEYYYY CODES :D

I couldn't agree more - at this point, I'm completely satisfied with the AAA discount and would be THRILLED to have lower crowds than the usual. I've never been at a time where we could walk on the rides without a wait (even in January), so that entices me even more than the discount :yay: :yay:

I did not intend to imply that Obama has won, is going to win or make any other political statement. I sleepily mentioned Obama only as an aside to the fact that I has the opportunity to sleep in, but DISNEY haunted my brain and I forced myself to get up and check for codes.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
sheesh!
