I am taking my family (4 adults = me and my boyfriend + my parents) to WDW Jan 4-12 2008. I am looking for the most economical solution for our trip. Right now we are mostly considering value resorts but I thought it would be a great surprise if I put us up in deluxe accomodations. It appears that DVC can be very reasonable. We are looking for two private bedrooms for our party.

I would like anyone's advice on your experiences with renting out points or renting points and what you should look for in the transaction.

I would like recommendations on where to stay and what type of room to stay in.

What is the most you would pay per point in that time frame? It is value season.

Is it better to stay at a value resort for the first two nights (Fri & Sat) then stay at a villa Sun - Friday? Or will that be too complicated?

I really like the idea of AKV and VWL and would love to hear about both.

Two rooms at a value resort will be less expensive than renting points for a 1 or 2 bedroom. With a 1 bedroom, there really won't be much privacy and only 1 bathroom. The 2 bedroom will give you the privacy you want (living room & kitchen area between the bedrooms & two bathrooms), but it will be a lot more than the 2 value rooms.

While it's true that some of the AKV 1 bedrooms have 2 bathrooms, the less expensive value rooms do not. (And your chances of getting in there at this points aren't the best, anyway).

The time frame that you are looking at is the Disney Marathon time. The Expo opens on Thursday with the 5K and Family races on Friday Jan 11, the half marathon on Sat Jan 12 and the full marathon on Sun Jan 13. So you might not have a big choice in DVC villas. Lots of members are also runners, so many of the DVC resorts get booked to make sure they have all the nights they need for the marathon.

While it's true that some of the AKV 1 bedrooms have 2 bathrooms, the less expensive value rooms do not.
The 1BRs in Kidani Village (the new building opening in 2009) will have the additional bathroom. The 1BRs in Jambo House (the Lodge building) have just one bathroom. And in both cases, the master bathroom is all in one room. It's not separated into a room with the tub and vanity and another room with the toilet and shower. So it won't be as convenient for sharing as the master bathrooms in the other resorts.

Further, I'd like to point out that value season simply means you'll be paying for fewer points, not that you'll pay less per point on top of that. For a member trying to rent 150 points, it doesn't matter if you want a reservation in January or July or how many nights or what room type you want for those 150 points (as long as he/she is able to secure the reservation). 150 points is 150 points, and what price he/she is willing to accept for them will not depend on what type of reservation you want or when you want to go.
