Jan 2007 codes?

Adding to the speculation about what Disney is or is not doing with the rooms in January....a few days ago, I contacted my TA about upgrading from Pop to Wilderness Lodge (Yay!). Of course, all the AAA room discounts for standard rooms were sold out. Only "courtyard" was available for a AAA rate. Yesterday morning, I received an e-mail from my TA that Disney just that morning had "opened up the AAA woods-view rooms"... :confused3 She didn't say that someone had cancelled, etc., but was specific that Disney had opened them up. It does seem like there are LOTS of people heading down to Disney in January, but it also seems like Disney is holding rooms back :confused3

In any event, this is our first time at Wilderness Lodge - I love the value resorts, but I've wanted to stay here for years!!! :Pinkbounc

It is also UCA College Cheer and Dance Competition Jan 11-Jan 15 because it is my DD 2nd year. Also last year there were other sporting events going on as well. It was a little crowded that weekend. Hoping after Jan 15 it clears out but it seems like this year there are a lot of people going in Jan. :cheer2:
I'm assuming they all stay together as a group, right? Do you know where they are staying? I heard most of the groups go to the all-stars..

I asked about this on another thread and several people responded that the groups are generally at the All-Stars, but that they have started to spill over into some of the moderates...CB was mentioned a few times.

Do they spend most of their time at the competition, or is it noticeably more crowded in the parks?

My kingdom for AP rates to come out soon!!!

Subscribing as well! Why is January quickly becoming popular? :confused3 We always go down at the start of January & have loved it because the crowds dissipate after New Years and yet you still get to enjoy the Christmas decorations, etc. We love it so much we chose that time last year to have our wedding & reception at WDW...after telling all our guests for years how wonderful WDW is in January we were met with unbearable crowds last year. :rotfl: Ah well, we are too addicted now to give up on January...but I am ready for these AP rates to come out already!!

UNBEARABLE crowds? ugh! What were the dates you were in WDW last Jan? Happy Anniversary, by the way!

we were in WDW last january, from 1st to 7th, and found it to be really quiet compare to when we were there in june/july!!! :goodvibes

We were there the last week of January last year. With the exception of the Everest preview the parks were very very quiet. It was great! We didn't need to follow touring plans or anything.

I think it depends- we were there during a dance competition in Feb last year- what a mess! We stayed at ASMovies and Oh My God! Lots of unsupervised teens and lots of crowds. Literally the day after the competition it was just wonderful- few crowds and relaxation.

Subscribing...

Stephanie, we were there from January 1- 9 this past year. While the crowds might not have been as bad as one would expect in mid-summer or Christmas, they were much worse than previous years. Admittedly, everything got considerably more crowded on the 6th when our guests were just arriving & actually exploring the parks...and transportation for our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner that night was a nightmare! We promised our guests that it usually wasn't that bad. We paid for everyone's cabs home that night (insanely priced) and/or asked guests with cars to take others to their resorts. A logistical nightmare I think very much attributable to the marathon! We left for our honeymoon the same day most of the marathoners did & the airport was a mess! :rotfl: Again, it's still not as bad in January as other peak times, but it is becoming increasingly popular!

Alright guys!! I think I found out what MIGHT be going on the last week of Jan.

Good Morning America is having a sweepstakes where a deserving family gets to stay the night in the Castle. Well I'm thinking that they might be filming the whole show LIVE from WWD or at least have Diane Sawyer there to film it. Not sure on that but it will be on the show. Also part of the prize is tickets to the social party for the press event. The dates of the trip or Jan 23-28.

Here's the link to the contest

Do you think it will be crowded with Good Morning America coming the last week of January? Surely not. I can't imagine them bringing that many people with them :goodvibes

We are planning our FIRST EVER :cloud9: Disney trip the last week of January  I need to go at a time of year when it's cooler due to health reasons & value season due to money reasons :rotfl: . I was hoping that the last week in January would be a great one.

What do you think? :grouphug:

Only if they filmed GMA there would it bring more people. What I was thinking was that the prize contained special passes to the press social event. If they're having a social event (party) for the press than I've got a feeling it might be pretty big outside of GMA.

I'm just speculating on this because I know disney didn't have rooms available for some of these nights. Maybe they were just holding them for "just in case" :confused3

We are going the last week of Jan also for DD's birthday. Hoping for a good code to upgrade to AKL!!! :yay:

Makes total sense to me. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had to push my trip out a couple days because I couldn't get the right room on Thursday, January 25 to save my life! No other day later than that was a problem.

I will admit I have not read this whole thread. :) Any idea when codes will come out? We are thinking of a short trip Jan 4-7. DH wants WL concierge bad.

Pure speculation, but my guess would be around the beginning of November. :thumbsup2

Begining of November is my thought too.......just in time for those who booked for January when they need to make their final 45 day payment, the codes come out (my TA thinks so too).

Hi sorry I have not been able to get to my computer for a few days so I couldn't respond. I know that our girls always stay at an Allstar Resort but I have heard that incase of overbookage they put them at a moderate. I don't know which one because it never happened to our groups. These are college cheerleaders so they are not as crazy as some of the younger groups that are there at other times of the year. :cheer2:
