This is my first trip report so please bear with me!
Cast:
me (Traci) - 38
DH (Lance) - 38
DD (Tali) - 13
DS (Noah) - 9/10 (birthay cruise 1/18/95)
DD (Tova) - 8
We left St. Louis on Sat. Jan 15. Tempurature in St. Louis was 12 degrees and there was snow on the ground. Burrrr!
We had a friend take us to the airport. We flew Southwest Airlines non-stop to MCO. Flight was non-eventful (which is GREAT!). Arrived in Florida nad picked up our Ford Explorer to drive to Cape Canaveral. We stayed at RonJon's Cape Caribe! It was unbelievable. For some wonderful reason, we were given a 2 bedroom (when I'd only reserved a 1 bedroom) for $140.00. We ordered pizza and then took the kids to the enormous pool. They played volleyball. Unfortunately the lazy river and the water slide were closed because it was late.
Lance dropped me and the girls off at the terminal and then he and DS Noah returned the rental. Check-in was very smooth. We say Minnie walking through the terminal around 11:00am. Immediately after we boarded the ship and we ate at Beach Blanket Buffet. Noah and I filled our plates with the peel-n-eat shrimp. YUM!
Next we went to our stateroom where we found our "goody baskets" from Shirley at the Perfect Gift. DH was surprised to see his Budweiser "main man" gift basket because he thought that I was just getting them for the kids. The kids loved all of their stuff. If you want to know what was included in them all I'll be happy to give a detailed report. I also took very detailed pictures (which I'll have to learn how to post) to show you.
I went to Diversions to make Palo reservations for our last night. I thought that with 3 restaurants you would eat at #1 first night, then #2 second night, then #3 third night and then back to #1 the fourth night. AFTER I'd already made Palo reservations I figured out the dining rotation listed on our KTTW card. (Reminder...this is our first cruise!) I was a little disappointed with our dining rotation TTAP. I thought that with kids you would do Animators first or maybe Parrot but I wasn't thrilled with our first 2 nights at Tritons. I went to Diversions to let them know that we didn't want to dress up so formal for the first 2 Triton nights and then again for Palo's. The CM assurred me that Triton's was casual and my DH only needed a jacket for Palo. Please don't flame me anybody...this is what he said. He really didn't want me to change anything so I didn't pursue it. I thought, "Hey this is your first cruise, lets just go with the flow and see what works." Most of the time, things work out for the best
(I'm a glass is half-full kind of person!) Turns out to be a good thing because we ended up sitting with a very nice family from Colorado. They also had three kids (DD-15, DS-13, and DD-10). Their 13 DS had a crush on my 13 DD and my 10 DS had a crush on their 10 DD. Since everyone got along so well, it made for wonderful dinners each night. Both families were on Deck 8. They were staying in a 1 bedroom suite and we were in the family suite. It was fun to tour their stateroom. Beautiful! My DH and I were both pleasantly surprised at the amount of storage we had in the family stateroom. There were several unused drawers in our cabin. I'm not kidding.
For our first dinner (early seating) my DH ate the vicychoisse, lamb entre and creme brulee. I had the escargo (delicious), herb-crusted cod (delicious) and the creme brulee (delicious).
The ship really started rocking during dinner. My son turned green and asked if he could go back to our room. I told him yes but he returned shortly after saying that it was WAY worse up on deck 8. He had splashed water on his face and was able to finish dinner. After dinner I passed out dramamine and everyone felt better.
The Hercules show was cute. One large urn slid during the show because of all of the rocking. Amazingly, the dancers didn't care! After the show, we ordered room service snacks and got ready for bed.
I noticed a sewage smell in the shower/sink room as we were getting ready. Soon afterwards, the drain in the floor of that room had some seepage of sewage in the floor. I called maintenance and said, "Help, there is sewage on my shower floor!" My kids thought I was hilarious because I yelled help into the phone. Immediately, maintenance came and put a plug in the drain. They told us it was due to the rocking of the ship. He advised us that housekeeping would be up shortly to clean up the mess. My DH was in bed (he was a little quesy from the waves) and the kids were also in bed. I stayed up because I knew that the housekeeper would wake everyone up knocking on the door to come in and clean. So I waited and waited and waited and finally I opened up my stateroom door to the hallway and the maintenance man was down the hall and I told him that I would like to go to bed now. Please get housekeeping up here to clean up. It was nearly midnight by now. She finally came and as soon as I let her in I went to bed. I could hear her scrubbing and scrubbing for a long time. I feel asleep after she left.
