Great pictures Kimberly! I so wish I were there now. Beings my dh is definetly not going I surprised my boys yesterday by telling them that one of their friends will be going with us. He has never been before & I know they will have so much fun. I called his mother 1st & discussed it with her, she was really excited for him to have the chance to go. It is also his 13th birthday that month, so I hope to be able to get him a birthday button. I told his mother that we will be staying at AKL, but to keep it a secret :thumbsup2

Eagle0112,

I'll try to answer some of your questions about AKL concierge. I read recently that you can book the Sunrise Safari at 180 days. You must be a concierge guest the night before the safari. We were allowed to use the lounge the day we checked out until we left for the airport, which was early evening. I'm not sure if you are allowed to use the lounge until midnight. If you are transferring to a deluxe savannah room, it is possible to stay in the same room. Just request this at check-in. The deluxe savannah rooms on the fifth floor are used as concierge rooms.

I hope this helps.

AHA! Finally figured out a way around this board not seeming to allow "tables" or the ability to copy and paste them (had to convert to .png image files, upload to gallery here and paste URL into message). For those that had mentioned an interest (and anyone else who might care to use your infinite experience and wisdom to help out a poor old man), here is my schedule thus far. The various flowers and other items being delivered and such could be shuffled (God bless Jennifer at Disney florist) so hack away!

P.S. If anyone has done this "Preferred Viewing Area" thing for fireworks in MK, a clue would be appreciated. I'm afraid that was one thing Don asn't too knowledgeable about (assuming a friendly cast member would be kind enough to guide my lost soul to the right area after dinner). But, being 4th of July I'm sure folks will be VERY busy and I'd rather not have to bother someone ... if anyone has an idea of where we are to go.
AKLGoofy, I have just a couple of comments. First, what an amazing itinerary, you are going to have a great time. Secondly, I am very concerned that you would post your reservation #'s. The vast majority of us are great people that would never abuse that info. but it would take only one person to cause you great distress during your vacation and I would suggest that you remove this important information. Finally, if I understand what you have posted correctly, you have a 6:30 reservation at V&A and a towncar picking you up at 8:00 to take you to your carriage ride. One and a half hours for V&A is half the time you should allow.

THank you kindly for that information. It hadn't dawned on me that the reservation numbers out there could potentially cause a problem, but of course, I suppose folks could cancel things...

Also, you are confusing a couple of things. We have a "specialty cruise" (i.e. private boat for firewoks viewing) after Victoria and Alberts. The carriage ride is the last night (the 7th).

Yes, it will be a bit tight, but luckily all we have to do is exit the restaurant and walk down to the dock (I've been told that the boat people are patient and won't automatically bail if we're not there on the stroke of 8:30). I know what you mean, though. When the wife and I go to the trouble of having a nice dining experience, we like to take our time and it's usually more than 2 hours. Still, "Autumn" and "Don" both seemed to think it would be workable.

I'm not quite sure what to do about the Res. #'s now, though as folks have already quoted the message. If I change the image files will that change everything you think?

Bob

OK, pics are changed, if you can edit to remove the old ones, I think that'll do it. THanks again for the tip.

Bob

Bob, sorry for the delay but I have now edited my post so that your res. #'s don't show. Have a great time!

Can somebody tell me where this room might be located? We are on concerge level. there are 5 in the group and they tell me we have a queen, a set of bunks and a day bed. I have searched for a layout of such a room and can't find anything here or on all ears net. The boys were curious if this would be a 5th floor or a 6th floor room. Someone posted somewhere that to get to the 6th floor you had to have a special key - true or false? the boys are hoping for a 6th floor room. We are traveling with friends who are not on conceirge level and I think my son wants to tease his girlfriend about it.

We stayed concierge and had a 5th floor room...it was a deluxe savannah view room. Actually, the views of the animals are BETTER from the 5th floor, since the 6th floor roof is like an 'overhang', where some of your views might be a bit blocked. Yes, only concierge guests have access to the sixth floor. They have a card key that is a different color than the rest of the AKL guests. If you are a concierge guest, but staying on the FIFTH floor, you will still get one of these types of keys. You use it in the elevator to gain access to the 6th floor lounge. There is also a private staircase that leads to the lounge, but, again, you must put your key into the slot to gain access.

Kimberly ~

Thank you for posting such WONDERFUL pix of the AKL! *SIGH * breings me right back home, where I wanna BE..... :rolleyes2

I confess that I have not read all 156 pages of your enjoyable thread -- I do apologize if this question has already been asked and answered. We are considering a stay at AKL Nov 30 -Dec 11. We ahve only stayed at values before. Can you compare the bus transportation of AKL to the values?

Also, just how long of a walk is it to the buses if our room is one of the last bldgs?

I do appreciate your help!

Unlike the values, where there are SEPARATE buildings, the AKL is one building. Having said that, you may be stuck in on of the rooms wa-a-a-a-y at the end of the "arms" of the AKL. However, the bus stop is located directly to your left at the end of the walkway as you exit the lobby....a LOT closer than the mods (and I've stayed in them ALL!!)

Can someone tell me about the refillable mugs? Are they the large ones or do they have the smaller ones that fit in the cup holders of cars? Any pictures? I know that staying CL we really don't have use for them but I like to collect them and already have ones from the Poly, CR, POFQ and 2 DVC ones. Thanks for any info!

They were the 'fat' ones... :confused3 who knows?? Mebbe they got the 'skinny' ones now, too.... !!

Re: Mugs...They also have the skinny ones that you can use in your car. I have quite a collection, too!

Re: AKL transportation...It really is very good! There is only one bus stop at AKL, unlike multiple stops at the Mods. Also, AKL transportation is not shared with other resorts, so it's always "Non-stop" from AKL to any park. Sit back, relax, and you'll be there before you know it!

Thank you for the info Kathy. I'm transfering to a regular savannah view room so I will have to move. Do you recommend I check out before the safari and leave the luggage with them to transfer to the new room?
I was asking about the lounge because I am not sure of our arrival time the day before and have been reading about some of the food and drink offerings in the lounge. I really would like to try the Chai tea in the afternoon so that should work.
Thank you again
Mary (aka eagle0112)

Mary, I would recommend checking out before the safari. After the safari and breakfast, you might not get back to the AKL by 11 a.m. You can enjoy the day at the AK. When you return to the Lodge, your new room should be ready. Of course, they might surprise you with an upgrade and let you keep the same room. I hope this is the case.

Kathy
