Any tips from you AKL veterans for my upcoming trip NOV 16 to NOV 25?
We are doing MVMCP on NOV 16 and Sunrise Safari NOV 18. Already have ADR at BOMA for Thanksgiving Day JIKO our last night.

Take time to explore the Lodge and talk to the CMs. You might want to visit the other deluxe resorts to see their Christmas decorations.

Jiko on the last day is a great way to end your stay. You might want to do the culinary tour of the restaurant, it gives you a nice introduction to both restaurants. Check the Activities Board for times and also for other activities you might want to do. I love the hot tub at night and checking out the savannah overviews early in the morning!

DF and I are honeymooning at AKL 1/6-1/13. This will also be our first trip to WDW. I've been reading this thread for WEEKS and can't wait!!

In the current rooms, there's only 1 bathroom in the 1BR's.

In the "new rooms" at Kidani Village (the new building...which isn't slated to open until sometime in '09)...there will be 2 bathrooms in the 1BR's.
Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, we'll make do!

Oh i will have to stop by the AKL just to see the holiday decorations!:) :santa:

The holiday decorations at AKL are beautiful! Prior to our last visit I couldn't imagine how they would combine Christmas decorations with an African theme. Well, AKL certainly did! I look forward to another AKL visit someday when I can enjoy the decorations again!

Okay, in 30 days 19 hours 45 minutes I will be heading to AKL!!! This weekend I will be sneaking out the suitcases (my son thinks we had to postpone and the count is 131 days!)

So, my question, for those of you who've been for December...what to pack? I have read that the weather can be just about anywhere. Do I need to pack everything? I was trying to scope out the people in the holiday pic... Looks like a lot of jeans and even jackets?

Are there any weather sites that predict this far out?

I cannot speak from experience, but I have been doing some research on weather underground dot com. The average during the day is typically the mid to upper 70's and the evenings are mid to upper 50's. We're leaving in 22 days and are planning to pack a variety of jeans, capris, t-shirts, and a couple sweatshirt jackets. Some people have posted that it had gotten into the 80's while they were there, so I guess packing a variety is the answer. Better to be prepared. Of course I figured it also gives me a reason to shop if I don't have weather appropriate clothes!:rotfl:

I also have a question about Magical Express. I have heard that some people choose not to use the luggage tags and just pick up their own luggage and bring it to the bus. Has anyone ever done this? Any opinions either way?

WE'RE GETTING SOOOO EXCITED!!! 22 MORE DAYS TO GO!!

I think I've read somewhere here that AKL offers activities for kids/families, some for those staying there, some that visitors can take advantage of- is there any info on these? we'd like to check it out on our next trip

Pretty much...pack everything.

You'll want a a sampling because it can be very warm, or pretty cool, and there's no real rhyme nor reason to which it's going to be on any given day.

In any case, the nights can get chilly...so a couple sweatshirts or light jacket are a must.

When we travel for december, it's the pants I vary most. I pack both Shorts and pants. You'll probably be OK with mostly short sleeves, provided you have a sweatshirt or light jacket in case it gets chilly one morning or evening.

We went the 1st week of December in 2005, and I took a variety of things - shorts, tees, jeans, sweatshirts and a lined windbreaker. I was glad I did! It was warm in the afternoons, but chilly in early morning and in the evenings. I wore my windbreaker over a tee in a lot of pics!

Hope this helps!

As others have already posted, pack a good variety clothes! Check the 15 day forecast on accuweather.com during the last week before your departure. That should give you a good idea of highs/lows expected during your visit.

As far as DME and luggage tags..... If you decide to get your bags and bring them to the bus, add about 45 minutes delay in getting to WDW. When my flight arrives, I can't wait to get on that DME bus and get to WDW!! :yay: I've used DME many times and never had a problem (even this last time where we had changed resorts last minute and the yellow luggage tags were incorrect. The luggage still got to the correct resort in under 3 hours!) We always pack a carry-on that contains swim suit, change of clothes, and any "essentials" because it will take approx 3 hours for your luggage to arrive in your room. HTH's
