People who have been moved to SSR, Did they have their package already? How many days before your d-day was the call?

I already got the package with AKL info and everything. And I was wondering if there is a possibility of that dreadful call...

We're staying at AKL 9/7-15. We added a couple of nights to our trip b/c of cheaper airfare on Allegiant, but when I called my TA to add the 16th, they were "booked." We're doing free dining, but can't get it for the last night, since we have to switch resorts (staying at WL as a room-only if AKL doesn't open up). DH doesn't really like the idea of having to switch resorts (actually, I don't either), so we're hoping it all works out. TA says that maybe we can get in after July, since everyone's final payments are due then, and that there may be cancellations. We're probably going to stay at a cheap off-site our first night (9/6) since we won't be landing in Sanford until 7:55pm. Anybody know of a good place to stay (preferably under $75)? Keeping our fingers crossed!

Check the Orlando Hotel or Budget Board threads; you culd get some good ideas there. Of course, you really need a car for that to work. If you don't have a car, you could just do an All-Star for the fist night and still use the ME. They will transfer your luggage and you can just bring a carry-on for the first night.

I looked all over the internet trying to find a decent off-site that was inexpensive, but every time I thought I found something, I read really scary reviews about the hotel :scared1: So, I thought, hmm, value resorts aren't too expensive on expedia, maybe DH would go for that. I asked him yesterday how much he wanted to spend on hotel the first night, and he said, "How about just staying at Pop Century?" :cool1: I didn't even have to plead my case! I did tell him, though, that I was considering ASMu, since we've never stayed there before, and he said that was ok, too. Now, we just have to figure out how to get some of the balance off our Disney Visa so we can put our trip on it and get the points for it! Unfortunately, I don't work over the summer so I can be home with DD's, so I have no income coming in :confused3 Maybe I can have a huge yardsale and get rid of half the junk in my house--kill 2 birds with one stone!

I did get a call about 2 weeks out from the trip (so about a week ago). However, it was not a "we have no room for you, you need to move" call but just someone informing me of construction and asking if I wanted to switch. It was nothing I didn't already know, and we had already decided to stick it out with AKL so I just said no thanks, and she wished me a magical day and hung up. I don't know if I got a different type of call than others on the board but there was never any pressure or indication that I would be bumped. If you know about the construction adn don't want to move, just don't worry about it and IF they call just say no thanks!:goodvibes

I got the call a few days ago (31 days before our trip) and yes, we had already recieved our package. I agree that the call wasn't what I would call "pressure"...but DH and I had already discussed it and decided that we didn't want our trip marred by construction noise. The CM who called also told me that they had moved many of the animals from the savannah who couldn't tolerate the commotion. To me, that was the whole lure of AKL.

I also made DH promise that we can go back to AKL another time.

I was told to simply scratch out AKL on the luggage tags and write in SSR (but to make sure not to write on the UPC code). The CM said she would call Magical Express to let them know about the change, too. All in all, the conversation took about ten minutes, but only because I was asking so many questions, I think.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Either way, I hope you have a magical time!

I love this thread. So many helpful and friendly people :goodvibes .

One of the main reasons we are staying at the AKL is because we wanted to do the Sunrise Safari. We are splitting our stay to spend two nights in CL in December. If we were moved to another resort, would we lose the Safari? Has anyone come across that yet?

Thanks!

We were wondering the same thing. Even though - we don't think we will be asked to be moved.

I hope I don't get a call. I've wanted to stay at AKL for years, and I don't think I could convince DH again. We're scheduled for 9/7-16, keeping our fingers crossed!

I don't want a call either. I hope they move most of the people and we don't get moved, wouldn't that be great! If I do need to be moved I hope they call sooner rather then later. I don't want SSR since renting points is so cheap, I would try to go for the Poly or CR.

I agree! I don't want to move either! DH and I are so excited about surprising the kids with AKL! (They think we are staying at POP!). When I tried to upgrade my room the other day, they tried to get me to switch to Poly or BC ($500+ more for Poly!!) I said no thanks. The CM was rather pushy I felt, and I asked if I was going to be forced to move and she said no, that I already had a confirmed reservation. But I could tell she was not happy I wouldn't move. Oh well!

...yet ANOTHER way awesome shot by Gdad:

....thanks a bunch Gdad!!:thumbsup2

We have ressies for 8/26 - 9/2. I have thought about where I would want to go if they call, but I really don't want to move. When are the villas in Jambo, supposed to be open?? Isn't it the end of August? Does anyone have ressies for them yet?

Also, if you book a bunk bed room are you guaranteed one?

Tx

The first set of villas actually opens today, I think. First set of ressies I saw reported was for July 2nd. The number opening, though, is VERY small.

MANY more open Sept 1st, and then more Dec 1st, and the final phase was supposed to open May of '08. Some reports are that they're running ahead of schedule, and everything will be done early. We'll see....

Thank you both for the responses. I think I'll just say NO THANKS if they call...(Which I doubt, since it's only.....6 days away!

Temporary Closure of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
LAST UPDATE: 7/2/07

According to a reliable source, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World will be mostly closed to guests from July 9 until September 1, 2007. (This date is subject to change.)

The temporary closure is due to disruption caused by the construction of Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas units within the main structure of the Lodge. Apparently the disruption was greater than anticipated and Disney has decided to move guests rather than inconvenience them during their stays.

It appears a few rooms will remain in use, but not many. I have been told that the following room types probably will NOT be affected: Pool View Bunkbeds, Suites (except the Vice Presidential and Presidential Suites, which reportedly will be used as a temporary concierge lounge) and Kilimanjaro Club Standard rooms. Guests staying in those room types may request a move, but the decision to move them will be handled on a case by case basis.

Disney is calling guests who are currently booked at the Lodge in chronological order to assist them with moving to another resort. Guests have been offered rooms at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and at various Disney Deluxe resorts for the same price they were paying at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Each case is handled differently, based on the room type booked and availability at other resorts for the dates in question.

If you booked through a travel agency, your travel agent will receive the call and will contact you with options.

It is believed that the restaurants will remain open but perhaps with limited hours.

I will post more information as it becomes available.

I apologize - I just noticed there is a whole separate thread on the news from Mousesavers! I'm a little behind as I was away this weekend! Note to self - read ahead before posting! ;)
