AWESOME!! :woohoo: When are you going?

You'll see us there then, we're going the 20 - 25! It's my birthday trip :)

But we nabbed free dining instead of the discount codes. Free dining is a bit more worth it to us since we love to try the more expensive restaurants on property :thumbsup2

....if you are booking 'Std Concierge', then you will be given a parkg lot-view room....

Kim,

I was under the assumption that if you booked a "standard concierge room," you got a standard size room--not a standard view room.

I love staying concierge at the AKL, but I don't think I would spend that kind of money for a parking lot view.

Sunset Safari is the Wanyama. We went in November and loved it. It is a set meal, but it is a sampling. You get a little bit of everything and it is a lot more than you would get if you had ordered a regular meal. A chef comes out and explains every course, too. And there is wine pairings. This is on top of the ride through the safari!

Does the sampling include the filet and mac and cheese?!!

Just to add to the confusion....Standard concierge rooms are "Savannah View" rooms...information was obtained from IPO.

I am reading some of the older posts on this thread and a lot of people say they requested bunk beds as a room preference. When I made my ressie last week I got a pool view with bunk beds, which is more expensive than regular pool view (I think rack rate is $20 more). Does anyone know when they started charging more for the bunk bed rooms?

Really?! Are you sure?
Because I just signed up for a Standard Concierge package and the price was LESS than a non-CL savannah room package for the same time. Not much less - like $20 total for the 9 nights, but still..... And, our AAA TA told us that it would be a parking lot view.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think we were comparing DELUXE non CL rooms to CL Std rooms. That's the difference.

But, I remember that there wasn't much difference between Std Sav and CL Std rooms either....

You are correct - a standard room and a standard view are two separate things. I believe AKL is offering standard room CLs because it will have fewer deluxe rooms (which can be pool or savannah view) available during DVC construction. When I asked IPO about the view, they told me Savannah view too.

This is the same information we received.....And thank you SharonLowe, we read some of your post about the one bedroom suites with interest, after reading your post we decided to change our reservations to two standard concierge rooms, saving us almost $300.00 and we will have two full bathrooms :rotfl:

I believe that WDW added the bunk bed room category to both Wl 7 AKL as of this month.

Thanks - I was just curious! Well, I was also wondering if I was paying for something I could have gotten for free with a room request! But it's nice to have the bunk beds guaranteed rather than wondering if we're going to get them. Although, at $20 more per night, $140 more for bunk beds, yikes. Keep repeating to myself...the kids will love them, they will sleep better, the kids will love them, they will sleep better, the kids will love them, they will sleep better... :rolleyes1

Just kind of a neat thing we heard while eating at Jiko last weekend. We got word that Jiko is one of Steve Jobs' favorite restaurants when he is in town, and he dines there quite frequently. Since he is the largest shareholder of Disney stock, I wonder if he gets PRIORITY SEATING! This probably should be under "famous people I have seen at Disney," but, since we didn't actually see him, I thought I'd throw this under AKL tidbits!

My dogs are still thanking me for the short rib bones.

I got the wonderful code and booked the AKL for 8 nights in December with the dining plan..It would be 200$ more total if I switched my room to concierge... Is it worth my while to switch to concierge with all of the food I would get on the DP?

Just so you know,I probably would not book the sunrise savannah..I am so not a morning person and out of consideration to the other guests,I won't ruin their tour.

My favorite time of year! Did you get a pin code or is that the FL res rate? Congrats! (darn - now I want some zebra domes! :rotfl2:)

Actually I got the code, but it's for the package with the dining. So essentially we got free dining at about 200 less than what the traditional free dining plan would have been. I have some pictures in that link I posted of Zebra Domes and I am dying to get back for some more!!

Just dug out the souvenir menu:

three African dips and bread
Jiko Appetizer platter: Lentil Pastillas w/ sweet & sour sauce, open maise & sweet potato tamales w/ white truffle oil, lamb patis w/ mint-cilantro chutney, shrimp balchao

Jiko sorbet w/ Hanger ONE vodka

Family style dinner served to share (enough for a portion of each for everyone at the table): oak roasted filet of beef w/ mac & cheese and red wine sauce; chermoula basted and roasted tanglewood chicken w/mashpotaotes, olives, roasted garlic, preserved lemons, and harissa; pan-roasted pacific halibut w/ vegetables of the moment and tomato beurre blanc

Jiko Dessert Platter (I remember an awesome creme brulee)

There was also a white wine, a red wine, and a dessert wine. When it was all over, I went up to take a nap before going to see Wishes and never made it!

What dates are you going? We got a great discount too. We will be there Dec 10-14. Right now we have a pool view w/bunk beds, but after I told DH what I did (switched from POP to AKL) he wants Savannah view! I have to call & see if there are any available & what the price difference would be.

BTW, DH is a smoker--can you even get a smoking room with a Savannah view? I told him I didn't think you could because of the animals.
