Viki - yup, no 'rita's. They have their own version, the "National drink" of Brazil if you will. It's called a caipirhina. It's made by crushing limes and sugar in a short glass, adding cachaca (sugar cane alcohol) or sometimes they use rum) and crushed ice. Sip slowly, cuz, boy, do they know your socks off!

Oooooh, that sounds wild! Have you had one? Like it?

KIMMAR ~ I've been away for a few days, I just read about your Grandmother. I'm so sorry. I'm sending my condolences, thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Viki -
Yes, I've had my fair share of them. My DH and I went to visit my friend in Brazil back in '99. We went to Santos, Sao Paulo, and the best place - Rio. We even got to go to carnaval. We had lots of them. They tasted exceptionally good while roasting in the Brazilian sun. :sunny: The first one goes down a little slow, but after that, they're ALL good! My friend is bringing me some cachaca when she meets me at Disney, so I'll get to have some here in Ohio. Lucky me! A lot of upscale bars and restaurants in the U.S.are serving them now, and some are actually made with cachaca, but a lot are made with rum, and I don't like them made that way. Try one if you get the chance. Margaritas are still my favorite though. Love that Patron.

Kimmar - so sorry to read your sad news - holding you, your mom, and all of your family in our prayers :grouphug: :smooth:

Jen(shyjade) not sure if you have left yet, but hope you & dd have a wonderful time! Look forward to hearing about your trip :cheer2:

I have not had time to keep up with everyone lately, but wanted to share that we are headed to the AKL this weekend :cool1: We had to postpone from our earlier trip but we are finally getting to do our annual Sept. weekend (in October :rotfl2: ). We have concierge booked and plan on the sunset safari (can't remember the exact name) on Monday, 10/2. We are very excited. I will post my thoughts when we return from our quick 3 night trip. The preplanning office has been so kind an helpful. I also booked the Princess Tea at the Grand Floridian last minute. More soon....

We will arrive Saturday :cool1:

I am so excited! If you see a family of five with two teenage boys over six feet tall and a tiny little girl and two tired but happy middle aged parents that is us! ;) Hope I see all of you there!!!!

When do you check out? Hope you have a wonderful time! I will be there with my 2 ds & a friend of theirs. This is the friends 1st time going to Disney, he just does not realize what he is in for :yay:

We will be there Sat-Tuesday. I can't wait!!! I only wish it were longer, but this will be our third time there and it is truly magical. :thumbsup2

To all those headed for the AKL, have a great time! Don't forget to take plenty of pictures and notes for your trip reports.

9 days to go for me!

I'm so excited I can barely sleep at night. Seriously, I'm just like that TV commercial! Not only am I excited about going to WDW and AKL, but also about seeing my best friend and her 2 kids from Brazil . :sunny:

They are staying an extra day and the kids would like to go shopping. Her daughter, who will be 10 soon, is asking to go to the GAP and she would also like some "American" tennis shoes. Anyone know if there is a mall or outlet mall nearby that they could take a cab to? I know there's a mall on the way to the airport, but was wondering if there was anything closer. Thanks!

Hello all. I just upgraded my upcoming trip from Carribean Beach to Animal Kingdom. Never stayed at either one, but just wanted to treat us to a Deluxe with lots of atmosphere. I paid for a pool view. Allearsnet seems to be down, so I can't research it like I'd want. Can anyone refer any recent and great threads, or would like to supply trip reports, reviews, comments?

I am ultra excited about this, much more than I thought I would. The butterflies are very busy in my belly for sure!

Thanks to all who have experience and love for this cool place.
BTW- Cast: Me, DH and DD(3)
Any suggestions for my 3yo daughter? Cookie decorating?

Thanks!

Pool view rooms are GREAT! They are very convenient to The Mara, Jiko, hot tubs, and...the pool! Last year we had a pool view room, 2nd floor on Zebra Trail. At the end of the hallway was a great porch/patio area for animal viewing. Honestly, there are so many areas to view the animals. I found the pool view forced me to seek out the viewing areas, thereby seeing many different animals.

Suggestions for 3 yr old daughter...check out the many children's activities throughout AKL. As for the cookie decorating...insist that she goes to that, and then decorate a cookie yourself. DD wanted to do this, and the whole family ended up decorating cookies!

Congrats! What a great decision.

Furthermore, a few of us very dedicated AKL types have just gotten back and we all have super TRs going on.

Here's mine, but please wonder over to the Trip Reports board and you will find super others, right on the front page.

Sigh ... I hear you, but then it flies sooooo fast once you are there!!!

Pigletforever -
Funny you should mention obsession. I was getting a sneak peek at the MNSSHP parade and I kept telling my son to come and watch it cuz it was so cool. I watched it about 3 times and he never came in the room to watch it with me. I asked him again and he said, "MOM! You are obsessed with Disney." I smiled and said, "Why, yes, I am!" :rotfl2:
