Scoutsmom, I've been reading the thread just not posting as much, come a little closer to our trip and I'll be posting away. How's the puppy doing?

I hope you guys have a great trip to the beach :sunny: Glad to hear that you are still reading along. Time will fly and you and your DH will be getting ready for your trip in no time flat.

The puppy is good he has been busy and Scout is teaching him all sorts of "tricks" that get him into trouble!

I loved "Great Hotels" last night, but wish they would've shown a little more about the resort and a little less about AK. I think I'll have my DD watch it with me and then suggest we check out the hotel when we arrive to WDW so she "can see the animals up close" before we head over to MGM. Then, once we're there, I can surprise her with the fact we are staying there! I was afraid the surprise would be ruined once we got to the ME desk (I know she'll be listening intently) but then she'll just think we're taking the bus to visit it. I can surprise her once we're there and she's in awe of the place! :thumbsup2

...my, my, my, you ARE a sneaky one.... :teeth: !
[BTW ~ I agree with the excessive showing of AK...they didn't even show the pool and flamingo pond.... :confused3 ]

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and am learning the lingo, so please bear with me. I've taken so many trips to WDW, I've lost track! I can tell you that my first trip was when it first opened in 1971 and we stayed at the Polynesian. I was in the 4th grade and can remember it like it was yesterday. I still have my glass tinkerbell statue and also remember buying a plastic wand like Tinkerbell! :) (Oh, to be a kid again!)

My most recent trip we stayed at All Star Music in Feb. '06 with our high school cheerleaders. I've stayed at every resort except AKL, BC, YC, Dolphin, Swan, Contemporary, and GF.

This will be my first time staying at AKL and I'm really excited! We have a savannah view room booked and I will be traveling with my friend from Brasil and her 2 kids, a boy- 7 and girl - 9. We're going Oct. 7th - 14th. This will be their very first Disney experience and I want to make it as magical for them as possible. My friend is going through a very rough divorce and her kids are really, REALLY sad. I FINALLY talked her into "The Happiest Place On Earth" to help chase the pain and saddness away. Using all my Disney VISA reward points helped sway her over, as it's quite an expense just for the flights from Brasil. Can you wonderful Disney fans suggest anything out of the ordinary or above and beyond that would make it even more magical for them? My friend is a great person and has fallen on hard times. She and her kids deserve to have the best vacation possible. We do have Character dining planned every day. I'm even willing to pay just so those 2 beautiful kids can have the trip of a lifetime. I'm sure they won't get back to Disney for many, many years. ANY and all suggestions/contacts, etc. for special things at AKL or any of the parks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

There's another episode of Great Hotels, this time on WL, airing today at 12:30 on the Travel Channel. I'll be watching!

Well for starters make sure you all bring along a camera and video camera. That way the memories will last for a lifetime. Another thing you might wanna do is call the AKL and have them transfer you to the people who does special occasion cakes. Being that this is sorta like a special occasion (them getting over their saddness and their 1st time to WDW) the cake will be a huge surprise for them and Im sure they will love it. Remember its the thought that counts! As for them putting anything on the cake you can just leave it blank or put To The (insert family last name here) Family. Just remember to keep it a surprise and dont tell them about it :) Another thing you might wanna do is if you ever take the monorail somewhere, ask if you can sit up front. They will get a great view and have a good time. I've done this before and loved it. Things that you must do is Fantasmic, Illuminations and Wishes. Festival of the Lion King is a must also. Also be sure to go to all the character meet and greet places and get the kids autograph books when you get to Disney. And dont forget to take pictures. When they meet the characters for the 1st time the looks on their faces will be priceless. Also are you on the dining plan? Also since your going in otctober you will be there when they start the brand new celebration A Year of a Million Dreams. So who knows maybe there will be some extra pixiedust: on your vacation and your group will have a dream come true.

I really enjoyed the show, also. I'm so glad this thread gave me noitce of its airing. I was mostly looking forward to the Savanna view from our room, but after I watched the show, I'm really excited to explore the resort. I think I may have to cut some planned activites to spend more time there. I liked how the host pointed out a lot details (the fabric, the furniture, even the smell) with all the hustle and bustle of managing the kids and commando DH, I don't know if I would have taken the time to really appreciate all the fine details. ? I believe I've read before about a tour of the resort, is this true? If so, do they point out some things much like the host did? I, too, was disappointed by the time spent focusing on AK. There are already several programs about it. I would have liked to have seen more of the resort. Oh well, still a great show and I'm even more excited to stay there.

Subscribing to thread!

I have tried to go through all the pages but I think I may have skipped a few. So please,if I asked an old tired question-forgive me!

I booked my room only ressie for next year. I'll be in a Savanah room. I know to avoid the ones that face the rock but are there any other rooms to avoid because of distance to main building and or noise?

I ask because I usually go to CSR and though I love it , sometimes it can be quite a haul to different areas of the resort.(I know they have the trams now but they are not always around when you need them.)

Well, I was able to "sorta" fix it!! I don't know how to separate the words,or add color. Maybe a "Tag Fairie" will take pity on me!!!

i am new to this thread so i apologize if i am asking a question over again. what are the standard rooms like? and if anyone has any pics that would be great. do they face the animals or the parking lot? the passporter says they face animals but the travel agent says parking lot. someone please help! thanks!

Definately PARKING LOT! Unfortunately you get what you pay for, and I can only afford the asphalt view myself... :sad2:

bummer! we are going for my dbf's mom's bday and they have a savannah view so i guess we can enjoy that. are there other places for us to see the animals besides rooms? thanks!

You will see animals everywhere, even just walking down the hall. Please don't sweat it; you will have a wonderful time in every room. In fact, on one of my trips I'm going to ask for a pool view, because that will have its own charm.
