Jambo or Kidani?

When making a reservation, or paying maintenance fees, there will be no difference. When you book 11 months out if you are an AKV owner, you can book either. You will know which building you will have because you will be checking into the appropriate building.

The difference is for insurance purposes, if something is destroyed for instance...you know what unit is "yours." I don't know of any other reason for there to be a distinction.

When booking, can you be guaranteed Kidani if that is what you want (i.e. is it a booking category?)

Yes. Once Kidani is open, we will be able to request one or the other. The location will be listed on the confirmation.

No, you're never guaranteed location. However, there will eventually be a lot more villas in Kidani than Jambo, so I expect it'll be easier to get a unit there.

That's not true. When Kidani opens, a villa can be booked there, or in Jambo. When you book you will know what building you will be in.

Does anyone have an idea of when they will start taking reservations for Kidani?

From the public DVC information website:

Can Members check in at both locations?

Members and Guests will check in at the location at which they are staying. The building in which they are staying will be confirmed at time of reservation.

There will be no difference in owning at Jambo or Kidani; both combined are AKV and eveyone's dues per point and ability to reserve at either building will be the same. When you reserve, you will pick and be quaranteed which building you want. That reservation ability obviously does not exist yet because Kidani is not yet open.

One difference is if you own Jambo, you get the privilege of paying dues now and can use the points now at any DVC resort. If you own at Kidani, you have to wait until construction is completed.

The only way you are going to guarantee a location is if you book concierge level since those catagory rooms will only exist in the Jambo house. Everything else is transparent. Statistically speaking likelihood of Kidani will be high.

Kidani will be a separate booking class, just like Boardwalk View, vs. Standard view at Boardwalk, or the new "near Hospitality" class at OWK. Just like booking a dedicated 2 bedroom vs. a lock-off unit or a grand vlla instead of a one bedroom. It is as close to a guarantee as you can get from WDW. It is far more than a request.

The guarantee is already in place. If you look at current reservations for AKV, they all indicate that they are in the Jambo House.

Here's the room type for one of my upcoming stays: Ded Studio Sav View Jambo

I can only tell you what I was told. My DH got me a 200 point contract for Mother's Day. When my guide was going over the 11 month and 7 month window and I won't be able to use my ponts until Kidani opens, he said that reservations for Kidani "should" be starting at the end of July or beginning of August.

Considering that when Jambo house opened, they started taking reservations starting in mid/late may 07 for stays that started in July 07. It will be very late or early next year when they start taking reservations for Kidani Village. Thats why the current incentives include points that can be used at SSR, so you have something to use since you can not use your points from Kidani.

If you look on your purchase agreement paperwork, there should be an estimated date of occupancy listed on the first page. That is the date you should be able to use your points if you are tied to a unit in Kidani Village.
