Jambo or kidani grand villa?

Family of five plus a family of three. Thinking dh and I would take the master, our kids the second bedroom and the other family the third bedroom. Anyone with recent stays at either kidani or Jambo who can comment on which villa would be the better choice? I was leaning toward Jambo, but as booking day nears, those standard GVs at Kidani beckon.

The thing I liked about Jambo was how far from the other bedrooms the master is. Seemed to have lots of privacy.

ETA: My friend and her girls will be with us five of the seven night. Would it be better for us to do a split stay—two nights in a one bedroom, followed by five nights in the GV? Or is a split stay such a pain and we should just stay in the GV the whole time for convenience. I know it’s subjective, but I’d love to hear input on either side of that argument.

We stayed at Jambo's GV and loved it. The kids, actually everyone, loved the pool table. Our young teenage girls were found in the master bath tub, in their bathing suits drinking soda out of the wine glasses, watching the real tv when we returned from somewhere or other; that was funny. The balcony spans the whole unit, 6 hotel rooms wide, huge!

The dining room table actually can seat a large group.

Kidani was being built when we stayed at Jambo, so I can't comment there.

As far as a split stay, the gv is expensive, but if you have the points, it would be much easier to remain where you are. If your trip definitely has the GV at the tail end, then moving wouldn't be as hard since you won't have settled in as much. Going from a GV to a 1 bedroom will " feel terrible", I think.

Only negative I remember is that our unit was at the very, very, very end of the hall. That's a long way if you are carrying groceries.

If you haven't seen these already, check out the virtual tours of both at David's:

I stayed in a GV at Kidani in April and it was great. The double height areas from the duplex set up added to the feeling of grandness, and it was the best view of the savannah we've ever had. The master bedroom is the only one downstairs so there's plenty of separation from the other bedrooms. That said it was literally the last room on the hallway- comically far away from the lobby and busses.

I prefer Jambo overall so I'd probably pick that, but you can't go wrong with either. And the pool table is a unique feature that you can't get elsewhere.

Thank you. I think I’ll end up at kidani. When it comes down to it, conserving points matters. I’m going to split stay too. It will get us another trip the following year.

Jambo is all on one floor, Kidani is split on 2 floor. Also Kidani hs 2 living area, both very small, where Jambo has a large common area and multiple large balconies. Kidani standard GV have almost no views of animals, if that is important to you. Have a great trip.

We’ve stayed at AK many times. The savannah view is nice, but we almost always go standard now. There are plenty of opportunities to view the animals. Good point about the size of the living areas at kidani. I recall seeing how large Jambo ‘s was.

As to GVs. we believe both Jambo and Kidani are ideal. Jambo has the single story advantage which is best if you have little ones (or older ones) who have issues with stairs. They are very large, the master bath is almost hedonistic (a TV to view from the bathtub), the pool table is an extra touch, and the porches are huge. You also have the Jambo amenities such as three restaurants, the larger lobby and much larger store. (A bus does run throughout the day from front door area to front door area of the two buildings).

Nevertheless, the Kidani 2-stories are also ideal. The upstairs bedrooms are at the end of the hall on each side, and the alcove at the top of stairs is an extra plus with a queen pull-out and TV for those who might not want to double up in a bedroom. The w/d is ideally located downstairs, and the living room's ceiling is the top of the second floor and it has essentially floor to ceiling windows in that room. The balconies are fine although much narrower than Jambo.

There are two standard Kidani GV's, both on the Pembe savanna, right by each other, one at the end of the sixth building pod on the north wing (the lobby faces west and the pool is on the north wing side) from the lobby and the other at the beginning of the seventh pod. They both have savanna view. The reason they are standard is because the outside perimeter fence of the savanna comes somewhat close to the buildings there, but you still see animals. For two walk-throughs of the same standard view GV go here youtube.com/watch?v=iy38d42R_2o&t=227s and here youtube.com/watch?v=31lNSVRzelc (both those walk-throughs were created before the latest remodel, e.g., larger TV's now). Despite that there are only two standard view GVs, they are often open at 7 months out.

Kidani has only one restaurant, Sanaa, a sit-down which is very good for dinner and also serves breakfast (but not lunch). Its pool is smaller than Jambo and has less places to find shade, but it has a very good kids (young to 13) water play area, the much longer slide, and its bar area at the pool has a number of tables under its roof at which you can sit and have a drink (or lunch).

The major issue at AKV for any room is distance to lobby and other amenities. At Jambo, the GV at the end of each wing gives you a long walk to the lobby and bus station. At Kidani, the end of each wing has multiple savanna view GVs and if you get one of those, you should plan an overnight trip to get to the lobby, spending the night about half way down. It is actually about a 6 minute walk, normal adult pace, and up to ten minutes if traveling with little ones, just to get from room to lobby. And note those standard view GV's, though not at the end of the wing, are still a very long way to lobby, and longer to the bus stop which is on the south wing. Neverthelees, if you have a car, Kidani can be ideal with its under-building parking lot lt that runs almost throughout the building, and with three elevators along each wing, you can usually find a parking place that puts you close to your room no matter where it is.

Wow! What a detailed reply. Thank you. We love Kidani. The walks have never been far to us—even when we’ve been placed in the farthest villas—so no worries there. Community Hall is a real draw too. I think given that I’ve decided to do a split stay, we will go with Kidani. We can enjoy community hall if we find ourselves waiting on the villa. It will also be a good meeting place for my friends and my family. My friends will arrive that check in day for the GV.
