JAMBO Everybody...An August 2011 TR (Completed May 13)

First off, congrats to Jasmine and Jeff. They are such a cute couple! :)

I loved your childhood flashback. When I was a child we used to have a drive-in 5 minutes from our house and we'd go all the time. We'd wear our pj's and our mom would make popcorn too. :goodvibes

I am so sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the dessert party. We've been twice and loved it both times. It sounds like you ended up with a rude group that night.

They sure are aren't they:goodvibes

When I think back to childhood, my best memories are not the ones that cost a lot of money, they are the ones where my dad was at home and not half way around the world. They were the best times!

I think it was the "vultures" who had absolutely no manners and definitely didn't instill any manners at all in their children...it was a madhouse!

What a lovely afternoon at DHS, the pool and what a great evening with the Wishes Desert Party!!!

We ate at Sci-Fi once and I wasn't all that impressed! Maybe we'll have to try it again!

The pool at Jambo House looks sooooo nice! We stay at AKL on our first family trip in 05. DH took the kiddos in the pool one day when it was like 68 degrees. Too cold for me!!

I noticed the something at the desert party! People getting all nuts like they need to get everything right away. Pushy and all! UGH! You're right, it's better to just ignore and enjoy!!

It was such a great day! We weren't impressed the first time we went and didn't return for years! We made this ADR mostly so the girls could experience what a drive in would be like, but the food is not great, that's for sure! That soup was yummy tho:thumbsup2

68 would be too cold for me too! When we went in Jan 2010 we never hit the pool once and as you can see, we are definitely pool people!

Thank goodness you experienced that too...I was beginning to think it was just us! The CM had very little control of the situation too and I can't stand when people are yelling at each other and yelling at their kids....I just wanted my bed that night:rolleyes1

Great Update!!! I loved Sci Fi Diner!!! It was so much fun!! :thumbsup2
Again... I wish we had the weather and time to hang out by our pool!
Next time!! :cool1:

QUOTE=Queenofallthings;42905839]

And of course one of the castle! I put my camera away for Wishes, it is something I very rarely take pictures of because I really just want to take it all in! We had a wonderful evening but as I said, I probably wouldn't do the party again! I actually missed standing on Main Street with the throngs of people...weird I know:rotfl2:

Good for you!!! I know I often get too caught up in taking photos and videos and land up living the moment through a lense instead of actually watching it it for real!! You'll probably have better memories that you put the camera down!! :goodvibes

Too bad for the jets!! But we'll win next time!! :)

Debbie[/QUOTE]

I used to be crazy with the camera and then I began to realize how much I was missing by taking pictures! I love Wishes and Illuminations, so I never take pictures now, I just enjoy!

What is up with the Jets....oh well, I'm just thrilled that the boys are back:worship:

Great update! I'm glad you like Sci Fi. When my brother and I went a few weeks ago, I had the burger and we shared the dip apptz. He had some steak/salad thing which I didn't seem too fond of but he loved it! The milkshakes are sooo yummy there :) Looks like a fun afternoon at the pool and I really need to try the dessert party!

We really enjoyed our lunch there this time! I agree, I had a sip of Jasmine's milkshake and it was so good!

I think everyone should try the dessert party just once, I think we just hit it on a bad night!

Another great update!! We have never done the dessert party. Don;t think we will. Too many people in one area trying to get dessert makes me nervous LOL. Congrats to Jas and Jeff-such a cute couple.

Lol that's so true Mary, just grab a little something and enjoy the show from the street like we all did last year:cool1:

Where did that year go??? Happy Anniversary to J and J!

We love Sci Fi...when we were there in the summer, the speaker system was wonky and e v e r y sss o u n d waaasss a prob- llllemmm. :lmao: (Aren't I funny?) It was so bothersome. It would have been better with no sound. Luckily, the sound was fixed in about 30 minutes... It is about the atmosphere here!

We were disappointed that no one was on skates this visit...a CM told me it was optional. Was anyone wearing them when you were there?

My girls' friend suggested that they be rollerblading waitresses for Halloween. Just wait until she gets a load of Sci Fi...I sure hope they have roller skates on when she visits Disney!

How great that you had pool breaks for all of you to decompress each day!

Love that Nana was mentioned often on your trip! She was certainly there! How was your Thanksgiving? How was your dad and how is he doing? Is he still being kept quite busy?

Wikipedia tells me Thanksgiving was today, but that you eat your meal on any of the three day weekend...Mostly Sunday or Monday, though. So, how accurate is Wikipedia's info?popcorn::

The years are coming and going so quickly now it scares me!

Nope, no one on skates when we were there, as a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen anyone on skates in the couple of times we've been there come to think of it:confused3

We ended up not celebrating Thanksgiving last weekend, because there was no day that we could all be together so Peg and Geodoc celebrated with his mom on Monday and we're actually going to our Dad's today to celebrate. He wanted to have it at his house so we'll just go early and help him get everything ready! I stopped at our local bakery and picked out a bunch of yummy things for dessert, but I have to stop today and get a pumpkin pie and whipped cream, it's my favorite dessert on the planet!!

Wikopedia is very accurate...we almost always have had ours on the Sunday so we have leftovers for Monday and use it as just a day to relax!

I love the dessert party! You made me happy just sharing your pictures!

Pool time in the middle of the day is always a good thing, especially when you're visiting in one of the hottest months! I was always wondering when our pool time would be on our July trip too.

You're so funny teasing SW. I'm bad. Teasing kiddos is so much fun...:rolleyes1

Those strawberries were so delicious, I could go for a few right now!

When we used to go in Oct/Nov, I used to think people were nuts for taking a break in the middle of the day, now it's a must for us:lmao: My commando style of touring has been gone since 2006!

It is fun....makes my sister crazy, but I love it!!

BLT soup sounds like my idea of heaven. I may have to break down and try Sci-Fi next trip.

Sorry the dessert party was a disappointment. People are so crazy sometimes!

Heaven is a great way to describe it! I would go at lunch and just have that!

People are crazy...we definitely found that out this trip that's for sure! It got to the point where we were thinking "it must be something in the water":lmao:

Desserts looked good, other guests sounded horrible. Thanks for the review.

You guys really liked that pool, didn't you. If only the bar had been still open the evening we were there we would have been able to get the full experience. :rotfl2:

Desserts were delicious but we ran into the same kind of rudeness you guys had been dealing with since you arrived:confused3

I am still bummed about that...at least we know now for next time "get drinks and put them in the room for later"....it's in my next planning book! I still can't believe it closed so early!

I love the inside of Sci Fi!! that BLT soup looks soooo yummy!!

I have heard such mixed reviews of the dessert party, some people love it and some don't care for it...I think it depends what kind of crowd is attending the party that night as well

I think you are right, it all depends on the crowd on any particular evening! Hey, I just realized, you'll be on your way now....here's to having a fabulous vacation!

Aaw it's nice to hear how Jasmine and Jeff celebrated their one year anniversary :lovestruc

Lol at tormenting SW in the library! :rotfl: Zaheer came with me in the queue but didn't ride - he was so nervous that he wouldn't be able to leave and would be forced to get in that elevator! :lmao:

I'm glad you all enjoyed your meal at Sci Fi and it bought back great memories :thumbsup2 Those onion rings look delish!

Oh no on the Dessert Party being the way it was - I was really hoping you guys would have had a good experience.

Imagine if you guys were there at the same time as us...I could have tormented Zaheer as well:rotfl2:

I was hoping for more too at the party but live and learn! I'm glad I can say we experienced it once!

Another great update! I think those Sci Fi french fries look amazing! Yummy!

I love pool time in the summer. It's the best!

Those desserts look amazing, but I would not want to deal with all those pushy people either. That's no fun! I hate when people get like that. :sad2:

Pool time in the summer is the best, couldn't agree more! I always wonder how people can be so oblivious to their actions....it really does make me crazy and I guess I usually say something because all I heard was Jasmine saying "let it go mom, they're just rude, keep moving mom, there's strawberries over there, focus:rotfl2: she really does crack me up!
Happy Anniversary to J&J!!!!! :goodvibes
I will pass that along!
I haven't written about the WDP in my TR yet, but we probably won't go again either. Ours wasn't as crazy as yours, but I didn't think the desserts were that great.
Aww, that's so great they've been dating a year! They're just adorable together.

I am glad we went because I would have always wondered about it, but I agree, it was just ok. I still can't believe it's been a year!

Ummm.... can I come over?

I should have been quicker on answering ... now that everythings gone:rotfl2:

That is unconscionable! You should be ashamed of yourself for tormenting the poor child. Shame on you!

Okay, so I would so do the same thing. After all, what are children for but as sport for their elders?

I knew you would do the same thing...part of our children's inheritance can be used for therapy:rolleyes1

I think MM is still a "little apprehensive" here.

mm.jpg

I think you might be right, but believe me SW was much worse, she kept her hands over her eyes until the food arrived!:lmao:

I only remember my folks taking us twice. But I still remember the movies. The Eagle has Landed (I think my folks didn't think it would be so violent... tame by todays standards) and a John Wayne flic which I think was Rooster Cogburn or True Grit.

We always went to see James Bond! When Jasmine was younger we went and saw Spiderman and that was the last one we went to before it closed

Ya gotta have your priorities!

....that I do!

See previous comment!

:rotfl2:

Awww...

Note to self, take DDs for Tiara fittings. :)

...and take pictures to share with us;)

Ugh. That’s too bad. Would it help if they raised the price a little and lowered the number of people allowed?

I honestly think it depends on who the guests are....some people just don't get it!

Okay, you had creme brulee, so you are forgiven for not having the carrot cake cookie earlier. :rotfl:

Trust me, if I hadn't been feeling so  after SW, I would definitely had one of those puppies!!!

I do the same. I don’t want to miss the show because I’m too busy taking pictures!
Glad I'm not the only one!
Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the next one! :goodvibes
Gonna try for this morning, but it might be tonight, but for sure there will be an update done today:thumbsup2
All caught up...you had a wonderful trip up to this point! :)

Ahhh...there's nothing like taking an afternoon off from the parks and swim. Perfection!!!

So the way to your heart is a Grey Goose slushie...I'll keep that in mind.

Le Cellier is awesome and Sci Fi is cool too. :thumbsup2

Everyone looks like they are having so much fun!

Your pics are bringing me right back to WDW, boy do I miss that place.

Did you ever get your luggage?

I love to sit in that lounge chair and actually say to myself "look how blessed you are" as I watch everyone play and just forget about your troubles.....WDW has a way of doing that for all of us doesn't it?

Yes....a GGS is absolutely the way to my heart:lovestruc I agree, we had great experiences at both restaurants this time! I am missing it right now too...when Jasmine was younger we used to always go at the end of October for our birthdays and now that the weather is changing, I want to go so badly!

I called two days before we left to the shopping channel and they said it was on advanced order and hadn't even arrived at their warehouse yet:headache: I was so upset that they didn't tell me that at the time I ordered or I would have know right away it wouldn't have been here on time! I cancelled it and will just order next time I see it:yay:

Hope you're having a great weekend my friend:hug:
Great update! I just love those afternoons hanging at the resort. So fun and relaxing! Sorry to hear the Wishes Dessert party wasn't all that great. I sure would hope they wouldn't run out of dessert for the price! Good to know it isn't all that.
We have that in common, we both love our resort time don't we:hug: You're right, for the price, they better not run out! There is something about being on Main Street that just can't be beat, it's my favorite place to be to watch Wishes!
Great update!! Sorry to hear the Wishes party wasn't much fun. Is that all you guys got was one little plate? I remember seeing the prices for that and I never did it because I can't eat too heavy at night but I sure would want to. lol
You got some great pics, I can't even choose my favorite this time I liked so many!! Glad to see everyone is having so much fun!!

The kids went up and got another plate but I was content with what I had, I didn't want to head to the battleground again:lmao: I feel the same way about eating late at night, if I have too much I'm up half the night! Glad you enjoyed all the pictures!

Where have I been the last five days? Living under a rock that I missed an update?

Love the photo of everyone (well, except you aren't in it) at Sci-Fi (gotta love those onion rings).

MM looks adorable in her tiara and I don't see what the CM got so "upset" about--everyone tries on hats at the parks.

Looks like the kids were having fun at the pool.

We've never done the dessert party either and I think we'll stay away from it...too much hassle and I prefer being near the Rose Garden for Wishes.

Congrats to Jasmine and Jeff.
That has been happening to me alot lately, I'm not sure why but I've missed a few updates myself:confused3

We didnt' have the best server at Sci Fi, he was always very rushed, so was never around to ask to take a pic of all of us! The CM was a much older gentleman and I think he got perturbed at Jasmine when she asked it a pair of earrings was sterling silver (she has an allergy and can only wear gold or silver) and he said "for that price do you really think it's SS....I turned around because I couldn't believe the tone he used with her! Then he asked if we were planning on purchasing a tiara..:confused3 I will have to remember to watch from the Rose Garden, have never done that:thumbsup2

Only today I find out that it was won by one of the guys here at work.

Wow, how nice for him! I'm a tad bit envious!! Next game, I've giving Geodoc money to buy me a 50/50 ticket!!!

Only today I find out that it was won by one of the guys here at work.

No Way!!!!!!!!!! That is too freaky......thanks for passing that on!

Btw......greetings from San Francisico everyone.....I'm here attending a conference. I hope to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum while I am here.

Geodoc ... I'm a tad bit jealous that you are visiting the Disney Family Museum...okay a whole lot!

Lucky guy, will you share a pic or two on here when you return? :goodvibes

Hi, Queen ! Hope you are having a wonderful fall weekend!

No Way!!!!!!!!!! That is too freaky......thanks for passing that on!

Btw......greetings from San Francisico everyone.....I'm here attending a conference. I hope to visit the Walt Disney Family Museum while I am here.

Thanksgiving dinner just wasn't the same without you there! Dad made a great turkey...I took half of it home!! Have fun in San Francisco....made it to the Louis Vuitton store yet:rolleyes1

Geodoc ... I'm a tad bit jealous that you are visiting the Disney Family Museum...okay a whole lot!

Lucky guy, will you share a pic or two on here when you return? :goodvibes

Hi, Queen ! Hope you are having a wonderful fall weekend!

I agree...I'm jealous too, that is another place I have always wanted to go!

Thanks:goodvibes we are having a great fall weekend...the sun was shining most of the weekend but today was horribly windy!

Real life is taking over and I don't like it one bit! I have no idea where the weekend went either! Saturday was spent running around and Sunday we had our Thanksgiving dinner at my dad's. Unfortunately, Geodoc is in San Francisco at a convention so he wasn't able to be there, but he was texting Peg so it was like he was there!

This brings us to what was going to be our Pool Day but before we left Peg and I decided we should use this day to take in a water park so that's exactly what we did! We choose Typhoon Lagoon, mostly because it has more of a laid back atmosphere than Blizzard Beach! Now I also have a confession...I didn't take my camera with us that day! I was so worried about something happening to it and it had completely slipped my mind to buy a waterproof disposible. So I decided to use a few from our trip with my BFF and her family from 2007!

Surfing lessons early in the morning!
IMG_0436.jpg

Everyone I have shown this picture to says what a great picture it is...that the girls look like they're the only ones there...well truth be told the surf lessons were going on and the instructors had asked our girls very nicely to vacate the area:lmao:
DisneyPhotoImage53.jpg

This I posted because this is where the 4 kids spent the morning ... riding Crush n Gusher over and over and over! They really had a great time...once the photopass cd arrives I know for sure there are pictures of them on there!

While the kids were busy riding, Peg, Geodoc and I spent the morning on the lazy river...I love everything about the lazy river! After a couple of times around we decided to head back to our lounge chairs and see if the kids had made their way back! By this time it was very close to 1130ish and Peg decided it was as good a time as any to have an adult beverage and who am I to argue:rolleyes1 She said she would run and get us drinks and I would stay at the chairs in case the kiddies came back. Peg made it back before the kids and told me the bartender asked her if she wanted "good" pina colada's or "great" pina coladas:thumbsup2 Of course she picked the latter and they were great...beyond great....there was so much rum in there, including a dark yummy rum swirled on the top:cloud9: Well, it was hot and sunny and I was thirsty and I drank it way too fast....how fast you ask? Welllllll, the kids came back just as I was finishing mine and they wanted lunch. Jasmine pointed out that it wasn't quite noon which I replied it is somewhere ... like England!!! She then replied with "good god mother are you drunk" to which I had to reply "drunk is a very strong word, but if I had to get up right now and go buy my lunch I couldn't so you're going to have to go for me!" In all her almost 19 years my daughter has ever seen her mother unable to get up but she did that day....it was my one and only drink at TL:rolleyes1

We had a wonderful day there, the kids loved it and I know now it's something we will always add into our plans on future trips! There is so much for the kids to do they were never around the chairs except to eat:yay:

By 3pm we all decided we had had enough and the sky was beginning to not look so good so off we went to head back to the resort and good thing we did...as soon as we boarded the bus, the skies opened! It was still raining when we arrived at the resort so we went straight up to our rooms!

We decided we would have a little nap and then shower and get ready for our dinner at Boma with some very special friends! In 2009 we had our very first Dis-meet with Declansdad, Pooksma and Declan and on this trip we were going to share a meals with them. I couldn't wait to see them again, they are such wonderful people and I knew what a great evening we were in for! Pooksma sent me a text when they boarded the bus and we met in the lobby! It was hard to believe we hadn't seen these people in two years it was like we saw each other all the time! We went outside for a little bit before our ADR so the kids could see some of the animals and then headed back in for dinner!
207-2.jpg

This is my favorite buffet on property, I just love it. This is Jasmine's plate.
208-3.jpg

This is Jeff's plate...his first plate....we were betting on how many plates he would have...Pooksma bet 5 but I believe he ended up with 7 plates:confused3
209-3.jpg

My plate!
210-3.jpg

Peg and I decided to have a Magical Star cocktail....heavenly, absolutely delicious!
211-3.jpg

Now as you all know, MM's birthday was while we were there and Peg wanted to get her a special cake and she decided on this night to have it! She really wanted to make sure we could celebrate with our friends! I love this picture of my little MM she just looks like an angel!
213-3.jpg

Here is a close up of the cake...it was so delciious and there was lots of leftovers!
214-1.jpg

Here is our first group shot of us all....
215-2.jpg

Another angle....such a great night! After dinner we all went up to the room so the kids could put on their bathing suits and spend the rest of the evening swimming. They all got along so well it was just perfect! The adult plan was to have a cocktail or two and just chat ... you can imagine our shock when we got to the pool bar and it was closed:scared1: We were not impressed! Oh well, what we could do? We sat and chatted but all too soon it was time for our friends to leave! It was the best evening and I'm so happy we were all able to be together again!

Okay, so I thought I was doing well at not getting behind, and I was doing a great job of reading all your posts, not so good at commenting on the posts. I tend to have a little commentary running in my head while I read and then something or someone disrupts me and I don't end up making the comments :rolleyes1 I couldn't believe how long ago it was that I actually posted a comment!

So here are all my comments:

-I think Jeff is a keeper, its great how he was playing with the kids in the pool :thumbsup2
-Love the pics of the boat ride from DHS to Epcot, makes me very excited for the 2 nights DH and I are staying at the Swan on our upcoming trip (shameless plug...I started a PTR, the link is in my siggie :))
-Ella was looking at the Epcot pics with me and she thinks Jeff's Dis name should be Goofy since he was having fun and being goofy trying on the hats
-So sweet how close MM was sticking to you at DHS, she sure seems to love her auntie. I'm sure its an honour to be the "1st time ride partner"!
- Glad that the non-queasy folks enjoyed Star Tours - its at the top of my list for our DHS day
- The treats at the dessert party look super yummy, too bad the other guests were so rude. I'm glad it didn't ruin your evening.

As for the non-trip related discussions...poutine is very tasty, I think I remember more of my Canadian history from those commercials than from school, and while our house is full of Leaf fans we are very excited for you to have the Jets back!

I love Typhoon Lagoon! It's definitely a must do for me now as well.

Too funny about the Pina Colada! I think it's happened to the best of us. :lmao:

How great that you had such a great dinner at Boma. Nothing better than good dinner and good friends.

That is too funny about the super strong drink at TL! Good to know! ;) So funny that you couldn't even get up after drinking it! :rotfl: I'd like to drink one of those bad boys and then float in the lazy river. Of course, drowning could be a possibility. :rotfl:

Your Boma meal sound absolutely fabulous! What a wonderful meal with a DIS meat to boot! Can't believe Jeff had 7 plates. WOW! Where does he put it????? :confused3

Funny Boma story. My GF from work went to Disney and Universal a couple weeks ago and stayed off site. Her husband didn't come until later in the trip. She had a Jiko reservation for her and her children one night (that's all she could get). I recommended that she try in the morning to change it to Boma and score - she got in! :thumbsup2 When her husband arrived two days later she tried for another Boma reservation and couldn't get one, so they just went and put their name in. 15 minutes later they were at a table. Everything was booked because of free dining, so as hard as she tried to get reservations in advance - no go! She liked Boma so much she went back a second time from an off sight location. That's true love! :goodvibes

You can always tell Jasmine that it is "5 o'clock somewhere!"

That was a great meal at Boma and the pool area was great (even though the bar had closed). I couldn't imagine sitting in the pool for the entire movie though.

That picture of the two girls leaving the surf lesson is great! it really does look like noone else is there- which a miracle in disney! The last time I was at typhoon lagoon was back in 2004! needless to say i need to go back! Crush and gusher sounds like fun! The kids enjoying the ride makes me even more confident that the coaster is fun!

Boma looks great! Glad to see you all got along so well! That mickey cake looks AMAZING!!! Did Boma make it or did they get it shipped over from somewhere/ It really does look wonderful! That nighttime swim sounds like fun! I absolutely love swimming at night :)

Great update, Queen. We've not done a water park since 2000, the last time both boys traveled with us. :sad2: And for the two of us it is kind of a waste of money just to lay in a chair or go down the lazy river. But we always enjoyed TL (better than BB).

Your dinner at Boma looks great, and how nice to share it with friends. Love MM's photo with her cake. :goodvibes

Hey Queen!! Trying to catch up with my reports and I didn't realize you started a TR. That's how far behind I've been.

Here's my comments:

That seemed like one strange lady at the airport. I don't know if I would have had patience with her.

Congratulations on the upgrade. How wonderful.

The gift was so thoughtful.

The pool looks so refreshing and inviting. My dream Disney resorts are Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge. Maybe one day.

My favorite drink to have at Dw is the GG Slushie. Soooo good!! Have to have at least one each trip.

LeCellier looks good. We ate there on our very first trip and just never been back. The food was good.

We've also never been to Sci-Fi. Don't know if my girls would enjoy it. They don't like scary things.

The water park seems so relaxing. Maybe next trip we will try one out. By that time Madison will be a little older and may want to try different things. We brought her to a water park while on vacation at the beach, and she spent most of the day in the kiddie area.

7 plates? That's incredible!

TL looks like so much fun, we'll try it when DD is older.

When on vacation, drinking at breakfast would be acceptable IMO :lmao: At least you got your money's worth with that drink! :rotfl:

I'm so glad everyone enjoyed TL but it sounds like you may have had the most fun

Your dinner and Dis meet sounds wonderful and that cake is adorable! :goodvibes

Typhoon Lagoon looks like so much fun!! I really wish we had some warmer weather !!
And that cake!! Awesome.... my mouth is watering for the chocolate!! :goodvibes

Debbie

Great update. I'm sorry to hear that the dessert party wasn't that great, but it sounds like you had a good enough time at TL to make up for it! For my fellow Winnipeggers, exciting news about the Jets game!
