Jaime's May, 2006, Trip Report!!!

I just love seeing all of the pictures and can't wait to go back. Thank you for sharing :)

Thank you both. I have been waiting - ever so patiently - to get started on the next trip report, but alas, you must TAKE a trip to write a report...

I have the pre-trip report written and ready to post, just waiting until it doesn't look so desperate... oh, what do I care? I'm posting it! Look out in my siggie for the link!

Just started reading your trip report, great job, I love the seperation fo the "planned" versus "reality". :rotfl:

My DW and I will be back for our 2nd visit in Sept. for a late anniversary :yay: (our first was a late Honeymoon, so we decided to just consider Sept our anniversary).

We also got a great deal from AAA and are staying at POR (haven't decided which section/buildings). We're coming from Joliet and going down through Indianapolis. What is the "Western Way" you mention?

Anyway, I've got many more pages to read yet and looking forward to it.

When you get on the Florida turnpike, you want to (oh, Lordy, I'm doing this from memory - call me from Kansas City after you follow these directions!!!) follow the Disney signs to 429. 429 will then take you to Western Way. I remember seeing the signs, so I know the path is marked. It was much faster than taking the turnpike to I-4. You come into Disney property near either Caribbean Beach or Coranado Springs, now I don't know. I just know it took a lot of time off the drive!

I know there's better directions somewhere on this board!

Thanks, Jaime, for sharing your big adventure, especially the part about the Segway tour, which we are interesting in taking next time.

There are certain restrictions on the Segway, right? I think one is weight, and one is age. Did it take a long time to master it? Does it roll fast down hill? Inquiring minds want to know! :confused3

Also, glad to hear your tip about Epcot at EMH since we are planning to go and lots of folks have said they run into crowds. Maybe we'll change our plans and do it 'your' way.

That is a wonderful trip report! I have enjoyed every minute of reading it!

Thank you for posting.

Hi Jaimie, you know I just started reading this report but I remember you now.
Yours was the first trip report I read when I got on this site.
Still remember your free, FREE FRIES from the Columbia Harbour House I believe. I'm jealous about the Valdosta thing though, we only made it as far as Ashburn, Ga due to an accident on 75. And we left at just after 3 in the morning. By the way, I'm glad you're enjoying my tr so far, wish I could get someone else to read it though. :confused3

The toughest part about the Segway tour was the bridge in China's pavillion. It LOOKS tiny, but it's the biggest hill we hit and it was the first hill we hit! I did what they call the "SegWay Dance" - forgot everything they said about the SegWay balancing itself, and tried to right MYSELF!

It looks like this - your hands (on the handlebar) shoot forward whilst (still love that word!) your tush shoots backwards. Then you bring your hands in towards you and push your pelvis forward. Repeat over and over until you A.) fall off, or 2.) the SegWay gets to do its job and rights itself. The problem is that you are trying to maintain your 1.) balance, and B.) dignity. You can't have both. It's just not gonna happen!

You must be at least 16 years old and weigh less than 250#. Going downhill was not any faster because, in my opinion anyway, in order to feel "natural", we automatically lean backwards a little when we go down a hill (to stay upright) and the Segway thinks you're leaning backwards to stop. So downhill should actually be a little slower than uphill. Now, I could be wrong, but that's "Jaime's Physics 101".

It takes about an hour to feel comfortable - then they take you to China! This was my family when I went over the China hill:

Jerks.

My sister is going at the end of September with her boyfriend and she says he wants to do the "ride" part of EPCOT during EMH Friday night. She's gonna let me know the difference. But I really liked having the WS to ourselves... it's so different to hang out there in the dark!

WOW!!! Yup, the free, free fries were from the Columbia! And you reminded me of a story I don't think I ever told about that trip (the January, 2005, for all you people who don't worship my trip reports like Steve does :rotfl: )

In the car were my nephew-in-law, Jay, and my daughter, Stephani (then 16), and me. First I have to explain Steph's sense of humor - it's a little on the potty side. In the 8th grade, she came home from school one day to announce this:

Did you know there's a city called Damascus??? Really!!! Dumb-a$$-kiss!!! It's a real city!!!

From that point on, you could send Steph into a fit of giggles with the word Damascus. Then she learned about Bangkok. THAT kind of humor. :thumbsup2 Oh, yeah, I'm a great Mom!

One day, not long after that, my now-ex was playing Madden football - you know that the last name of the player shows on the screen underneath the player. Well, (do you see what's coming???) she spots one of the player's names - BUTKIS. She cracks up and says there's no way, ex made it up. Now it's my turn to laugh as I tell her the first name... the kid's out of control!

Back to the car - Amboy and Ashburn, GA. Jay and I are making her laugh enough saying Amboy like Dam* Boy! But when we passed a billboard for the Ashburn Inn, it was all over! "Am boy! My Ash-burn Inn!" (said with a very southern accent)

She didn't stop laughing until Valdosta! And I don't think passing Dix, GA helped!
