"Jack FM" "Bob FM" "Doug FM" any of these guys take over YOUR radio

When the station in Boston changed to MikeFM, it seemed as though it was an overnight change. It sounded as if it switched in the middle of the work day. It doesn't sound like the dj's had much, if any notice about being let go. They play some good music- but I definitely miss the old station.

Another non-fan of JACK Fm here in the DFW area. I only flip to that station when none of the other stations I listen regularly (93.3 the Bone, 102.9 MIX, 103.7, 98.7 KLUV (which totally sucks now by the way but that's a thread unto itself entirely) and 105.3 FM KLLI Live 105)aren't playing something I want to hear or on a commercial break. I also have started listening to 620 AM Radio Disney a lot too, for some wierd reason. Mostly because I don't like Jack, I think.

Yes I posted on another thread JACK-FM has arrived here in Nashville. Took over the oldies station, which in turn took over MY favorite station. Bummer!

From the 95.7 BEN FM website:
Playing anything we feel like... 95.7 BEN-FM
3 decades of music... thousands of songs you know and love... unpredictable... music with attitude... it's like an iPod on shuffle...

An article I found says BEN kicked in at 5pm on 3/21. Those DJ's weren't aware of the format change or that their jobs were in jeopardy. In my quick search I learned of Greater Media and Infinity both adding these "guys" to the stable of radio stations. One website http://www.geocities.com/billyjanderson2005/ gives a list of Jack & Bob stations across the country.

Yeah, as mentioned, HANK took over my radio station. I've found a couple that will do, but I'm not happy about it.

Jack FM here. Took over a totally crappy station, which in recent years has been several different formats, lite music, disco music, hard rock, all talk (which was awful) so I like it. DH has XM in his truck, but I must live with commercial radio, and Jack is the closest thing to XM for me, so I listen to it sometimes. We're in Buffalo.

I also now have Mike FM and Frank FM (NH). I really don't care for it at all. I find myself listening to 96.9 FM Talk more & more. This might actually push me over the edge and finally sign up for Sirrius - DH has been after me to get satellite for a long time.

Frankie Foxx was a DJ at Star 93.7 and works for Metro Traffic in my building. I'll see if I can find out what notive they had about all this. I feel for the DJs who are all out of work due to this. :sad2:

JACK replaced New York's only oldies station that had been an institution for years. I'm sure it appeals to a lot of youger people, but so do a host of other stations. This was a real kick in the teeth!
The station I listenED to out of Baltimore was an oldies station and had the same morning team for 17 years. Changed to JACK last month with no warning. Fired all the DJs. I haven't listened since.

We have DAVE here in Atlanta. Fairly new - last 6 months or so. Replaced a rock station. They certainly play an eclectic mix, but we are "flippers", so, if there is a song we like, we listen, otherwise, we flip to another station.

We have JACK-FM in Mpls/St. Paul and I HATE, LOATHE, DETEST, it. They took over the 80's station that I was a faithful listener of. I miss the DJ's, I miss the station breaks and weather updates!! I hope it goes the way of the wayside SOON

Jack FM took over an oldies station here in Baltimore. I did like listening to oldies sometimes, however the deejays from that particular station got on my nerves a lot, and they would only play the same set of oldies over and over again, leaving out some good ones.

Although I do miss being able to hear the oldies when I want to, I will admit that there are a lot of songs on Jack FM that I haven't heard in a long time and are refreshing to hear. The only other downside for me is that interspersed with all of the songs I *do* like, are other songs that aren't my style and I end up have to switch temporarily to a different station until the song is over.

Ours in Philly area is Ben FM.

I like it!

Yes. We suddenly have two of these...

JACK FM took over our only oldies station too. They're playing a lot of 70's/80's stuff, with some really strange things mixed in. It's okay sometimes, but I miss the oldies station.

HANK FM is a new country station. Ironically, we have one of the most successful country stations in the US already (WFMS). They win the ratings every time and have won several Station of the Year awards. I'm not sure what "Hank" thinks he can do differently in this particular market.

How sad is it that I really have no idea? All I listen to are CD's & 1 radio station. I never venture to other parts of the "dial" so I don't know if we have one or not

part of one of those big radio conglomerates - no coincidence they're popping up everywhere.

I like 'em though! :cool1:

We have "Red" here in Baton Rouge. Guess it could qualify as a name. I presume it's supposed to be following the same eclectic genre, as the commercials they are playing advertise it as like an Ipod on "shuffle".

Must admit I don't listen to too much radio anymore. They lost me when they started syndicating most of the shows. Made the DJ's too generic.

Bob-FM here in Hampton Roads. It grew so fast here they had to move to a better band width. Its my favorite! :cheer2:

I've been thrilled with the addition of JACK to the Nashville line-up! We have so many country stations (so many, in fact, that I have learned to like country!), and being in the deep South, we have a couple Contemporary Christian stations, that there just isn't enough room for all the different types of rock/pop stations. We essentially have 1 Top 40 station (107.5), 1 "party music" station (102.5), 1 "hard alternative" station (102.9), and 1 station that is, despite their claims to the contrary, nothing more than Easy Listening (97.1). JACK has been good enough to make me actually turn off my iPod and listen to the radio again!

I just wanted to shed a little light on why they can't tell the DJ's about the change. Radio is a close knit industry, if you tell the DJ's chances are that you are telling your competition and giving them a chance to 1) beat you to the marketplace, ie steal your idea 2) steal your advertisers.

Also by telling the DJ's you run the risk of 1) them slipping up and saying something on air or the worst case is them losing it and going off. That's why many people don't get 'fairwell' shows.

Radio is a volatile, transient, insecure industry. Everyone gets fired, moved, replaced. People in radio know this and plan for it. It's highly unusual for people to work out their carreers in one place.

I also can't imagine that these people didn't have any clue that their format may change. Stations are driven by ratings and revenue. If their ratings are in the toilet and the station isn't making money chances are the writing is on the wall.

Trust me that management doesn't like these decisions either and in the big conglomerates they do try to relocate good people into other positions.

Infinity (Viacom) is the conglomerate currently running with the 'name' format. I do find it funny that Stern was making fun of it since it's HIS conglomerate that is doing it. Wait what?? Stern is syndicated/paid/employed by a giant media conglomerate?
