my husband will come around to my way thinking;) and we come home as owners!! I am so excited to stay at OKW. My only disappointment is that we will miss the Christmas decorations around the world. But since we are going the week before Thanksgiving, perhaps there will be alot less crowds. I do have a question if anyone can help, I have received our conf# and the form via email, now can I call OKW myself to confirm, and make a request for a certain area? (also want to make certain we really are confirmed!!!) Also we are booked in a 1 b/r so is there any area particularly better with small kids( 1 1/2, 3 and 6 yo)?

Also any tips while we are there to help sway my DH to just sign on the dotted line already! I've been working on him since May 02 and that was 4 trips ago!

Thanks

You've made four trips since May 2???

Convincing him should be no problem at all!! :)

Taking him to a 1BR ought to do it. If it doesn't, then DVC just might not be in the cards for you.

I think the person you're renting from has to call MS to put in the requests. The first thing MS asks for is the member number, which you wouldn't have (yet). :)

Good luck....I think your DH is going to be bowled over. Where do you usually stay?

Some of the Christmas decorations may be up....When I was there last Nov during Veteran's Day weekend, the Beach Club had already started decorating. There not every where, but still beautiful.

Well I have the guest certificate which has our name on it with dates etc and a conf# also a cert from interval intl? Now am I supposed to get a member # as well? Maybe I'm too trusting but nothing was said about a member # should I contact the owner? I thought we were all set!

And I know my DH will love it, he's commented on it when we ate at Olivia's. We normaly stay in a deluxe but with the addition of the 3rd child we really need some space;)

A member number is the number a DVC member is assigned when he buys in. You would never get his number. If you have the original confirmation , you know the ressie is made. What you don't know is if he cancels after you have paid. That is very doubt ful. I have never heard of a member stiffing a renter. At least not on these boards. I guess you could have a conference call with MS but I doubt that is necessary. Renting points is a lot about trust. If you didn't feel comfortable renting the points you should not have rented them. I'm sure everything will be fine, and you will love DVC.

Good luck.

If I were you, I would call Member Services and explain that someone has made the reservation for you and that you have the confirmation number and see if they will talk to you about the reservation. The worst they can say is no. If they do talk to you it might give you some peace of mind.

I am also sure that the person who made the reservatin for you could make any requests for you that you would like.

Have a wonderful time. Make sure you take pictures of your villa before you unpack. I always love pictures of just what the rooms look like before we clutter them up.

Please report to us when you get back.

We just did the same thing you are doing and I did it for the same reasons. I have been looking at DVC from afar since 1998 and took the tour in late April, without my husband since he was hesitant to spend the money. I rented points just as you have through the rental board at OKW in late September and everything went off without a hitch.

My husband was able to call, confirm our reservations, and request a non-smoking room. That is all we asked for and they accomadated us.

He was sold as soon as we walked in. The convenience of the kitchen, laundry, and the extra space was incredible. I gave him a few days and then "we" walked up to a DVC stand in one of the parks to set up an appointment. We bought that day. My tactics were low pressure just like the guides and the DVC sold itself.

The only thing about getting a rental is you do not receive all the extra perks like the DVC owner. There weren't that many - mainly 10-20% discounts for dining and discounts on behind the scene tours. Otherwise, you are treated as the owner. Once we bought into SSR, we did get a membership card and used it for discounts, thereafter. Plus, the 4 meal vouchers saved us about $50-60.

"We" are looking forward to the next 50 years. Good luck to you and yours.

This sounds like an exchanged time so MS may not be able to help you. There may not be a DVC member involved. If it is an exchange Disney changes a $95 resort fee at check in.

MOMTOMOOTOO - If you bought an OKW week that was originally received as an exchange through Interval International, don't throw away the name and telephone number of the person you bought it from. Several posters here say it's against II rules to rent/sell an exchanged week. Hope you don't run into any trouble using it. You might want to check out this thread to see if your situation is similar:

We have booked through Interval, and when you get the certificate, on the second page, there is the telephone number for the DVC where you call and pay the $95 fee. If your name is on the Guest Certificate of the reservation, there is no problem. DVC uses the original confirmation number listed under the owner, who is the II member who rented the time originally. When you call DVC, you will know whether this time is still reserved in your name or not, and if it is, you're all set. This is when you can make your room requests.
