But today two of my friends were talking about a restaurant where the waiters that served you were auditioning for soap operas??? Can anyone elaborate? And is it still around? I didn't think so but was curious about what it was. ::MinnieMo

Well one of my friend's that had eaten there it was about 7-8 years ago

Yes it was an old restaraunt its like a yesterland thing several years ago but its not there anymore. Its where you could dine with re created sets like Port Charles, from the popular ABC soaps such as All my Children, One life to live, General Hospital etc. I believe it used to be where the Animation studio in DCA is.

I do remember it was in the area where Bear in the big blue house is.

The Soap Opera Bistro was a great restaurant for interaction. The food was ok, but the atmosphere was so fun! There were "character actors" walking around in various costumes (candystriper, doctor, policeman, rich folks, etc.), and they would get guests "involved" in their current predicament. It was all improved, and all very funny to see.

It was located where Playhouse Disney Live! is now.

Wow that sounds like it would have been fun! I am sorry to have missed out.

It was the Soap Opera Bistro and it was there the first time we ever went to CA. When I dragged my DH and DS in they where like "Oh, great...." but it was probably the best dining experience we ever had at DL. Too bad they shut it down because it was sooo much fun. Oh well.

I used to love the Soap Opera Bistro! The food I had there was always good (but I was ordering their specialty salads) and the waiters, and 'sets' were great. Every now and then they would put on skits and entertain the diners. I was so sad when it closed! :(

I wish it was still around seeing as how I LOOOOVE General Hospital!

Yes it use to be housed in the Playhouse Disney building.

The restaurant represented all of ABC's soaps of the time All my Children, General Hospital and I think one more. So you had the "fancy rooms" of the houses, the hospital nurses station and even an elevator booth.

The servers played small parts but they also had characters in costume to match the theme of the room you are in who would tell you storyline in a similar way they do Murder Mystery parties. They would interact together as well as talk behind each others backs.

Don't ask me what I ate the one time we went it wasn't memorable but the experience was a blast! I think it actually beat some of the theme TS at WDW. I dont even watch soaps and I had an amazing time!

Sadly almost from the beginning it as doomed since attendance was so low the first few years at DCA in compared to what they expected. They started by cutting back the hours since it was so CM heavy to run, then they cut them back even further and it was hard to ever come across it open. Finally they just closed up the building, they let it sit for a while until it opened as Playhouse.

I really miss the place and would love to see something like it come back to DCA since it really was so fun and unique, and fit the Hollywood theme so great. I wish I had pictures :(
