I posted a week or two ago about trying to buy a new cutting machine. I've done alot of reading and think that I will probably get the Sir Cuts Alot 3 software.

I just have to pick a machine now. It is a big split between the Silhouette Cameo (comes out this coming month) or the eCraft.

Anyone have a Silhouette (SD not cameo since it comes out next month) or the eCraft and have a good review or recommendation?? I'm so excited and ready to buy but just can't decide!!

Thanks!!

I have the original Silhouette and have always been pleased with it. The Silhouette online library of images is very easy to use and downloads are very quick. My only complaint with Silhouette is its lack of licensed images (aka Disney images). I'll have to take a look at the new Cameo that's coming out. I haven't looked into cutters in a while since mine still works great for what I need it to do.

That's one vote for the Cameo!

I am curious since I am VERY new to this! How do you make Disney cut outs??? Is there a way to buy them or trace them or what?? Will Sir Cuts Alot help with this??

I'd love to learn!!

I have the Sillhouette SD and LOVE it!

It cuts fabulously and their software is pretty easy to use -- a lot of users have tutorials on You Tube as well. What I like best is any font (which includes dingbots) on your computer can just be typed in and, voila!, it is ready to go. As Peanut said their online registry is pretty cool -- I love that I only have to buy the one image I want instead of an entire cartridge. Each week you can download their free weekly image and they also have a section of cuts at 50 cents. For the most part an image is $1 unless you buy a monthly plan.

Yes, it would be nice to have more licensed cuts but I have been able to make/create what I need for my swaps. The Silhouette has a trace option where you import your picture, do the auto trace and then break out the pieces to cut. The ease of the auto trace is dependent on the quality of the image.

I have only used the Silhouette software so I can't comment on the Cuts Alot program.

I'm sure you will enjoy your machine!

I am SO coveting the Cameo.

But my hesitation is that it will not work with SCAL. (and on a sidenote, I got a huge chuckle this morning, it is SURE cuts a lot, not Sir :lmao: as I am laughing with you, not at you)

No one is reporting that the Cameo will work with SCAL, or MTC even tho the SD does. And no one will know until it is released and the Cameo is in user's hands.

BUT, folks in general, seem to be happy with the cutting software that comes with the silhoutte.

If you are using most any cutting program, you are looking for SVG files. SVG files seem to be the standard across many cutting platforms.

The eCraft seems to be a nice product too, but doesn't get the glowing review of intricate cuts like the SD.

please let me know too on the cutter

I use SCAL2 so I can say that one is great & I love it

I have a Cricut baby bug and use the SCAL2 and I love it. It uses svg files that I find online. I use a lot of Reddy's files and they are great. thanks Reddy. :thumbsup2
