...2nd one ever...but the last one, lotion was never applied to my feet which would have seemed nice. I guess no two pedicures are the same?

I've only gone to one place so I have no variety to compare. Yes, they used lotion. I don't know what to expect from a pedicure as a "rule".

My daughter and I went for one recently. What made me very uncomfortable is that they'd ask me something, then talk amongst themselves in Chinese, I presume. They'd ask my daughter something and then do the same. I saw them doing this with others as well. From what others have told me, this is common, but it made the whole experience rather unpleasant.

I've only had one pedicure in China since living in Shanghai and it was the worst one ever. They didn't cut my nails and used no lotion or scrub or pumice - and they ripped me off to boot.

The best pedicures i've had follow the same general rule:

Soak in hot bubble water
Remove old polish
Cut/file nails
Pumice or razor on bottom of heel (razor is preferred but some don't use)
Leg Scrub with exfoliate
Hot Towel
Lotion
Polish

Once I had a gift certificate to a "spa" and had the worst experience! The first thing the girl did was stare at my feet which made me uncomfortable. Then she started yakking to her co-worker that she drank too much coffee that day and she had caffeine shakes (just what I wanted to hear as she started working on me with clippers). Sure enought, she ended up cutting me and making me bleed.

She continued to yak thru the whole procedure to her co-worker about her night last night, an upcoming wedding she was attending...what she was wearing, who she was dating, etc. OMG, I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Now I go to the cheapie place in the local mall and always get a great pedicure...lotion, lots of massaging, etc. The owners are Vietnamese, the employees speak very little English so I don't have to talk to anyone. The employees talk to each other in their own language...and as long as they are not talking about my feet, I don't care!

Every one I've had, they applied lotion. Different places call them different things. The deluxe one down the streets gets your legs massaged, a salt scrub, then wrapped in warm towels..... now that feels so good.....

They are always just a little different unless I go to the same person but always get lotion. Love a nice relaxing pedicure. Hope you enjoyed! :)

maybe depends on your feet, but i'm thinking about getting one per month. how often do you have one?

Where I've been going...same list, but add hot stone massage on legs, paraffin dip and booties on feet, and hot towel/shoulder massage while drying. All for $25. You can't understand one word they are saying, but it's cheap and you get a lot for your money!

I've had three since the end of May. The polish the use (OPI) lasts really well, so I never have chipping issues. Once I see a lot of unpolished nail at the nail bed, I head over.

My mom got a pedicure a few weeks ago - it was supposed to be an hour long "deluxe spa" pedicure. It took 30 minutes and all the guy did was soak her feet and paint her toes. She complained and said she was not paying for a deluxe pedicure. Instead they charged her for their regular one, but I would not have paid even that.

WOW!!!!! Our place gives you a GREAT leg/foot massage-probably close to 15 minutes worth but none of the rest of this. I think ours are $30-35, I can't remember since DD usually gets a design and that adds more.

Just had one two days ago and they did do the salt scrub and the lotion massage a well as the rest of it (clipping, filing, polishing)

They do talk to me in English, but they also talk amongst themselves in Vietnamese. It doesn't really bother me, I don't think they are talking about me (at least I hope not!).

Oh--and it is $25 plus tip and takes a little over an hour, depending on how long you sit under the nail dryer.

Mani/pedi... the ONLY thing you can get cheap in this area.

I am, admittedly, high maintenance, I'm a Jersey girl, I get a mani/pedi every 2 weeks. For $25 I get:

Soak feet in bubble tub
Take off old polish
File/trim nails
push back/trim cuticles
pumice feet (razors are not allowed here any more)
salt scrub feet/legs
"mud" mask w/ hot towels
hot stone massage w/ oil
leg foot massage w/ lotion
paint toenails.

I have gel nails... I get mani & gels/pedi/wax every 2 weeks for $70

Depends on where you go. Places differ greatly with what you pay for and what is extra. There are regular peds, blades vs no blades. pumice stone vs pumice scrub. You really have to ask if you don;t really go to a place continuously.
BadBlackPug's pedi is normal here and cost about $30 after tip.

I have gone to the high end to the cheap corner places for pedicures and they have always included lotion.

Bare minimum is usually:

Soak
Removal of old polish
Cut/trim and file nails
Trim cuticles
Pumice/salt scrub feet
Lotion and leg/foot massage
New polish application

Now some places do things like hot stones, paraffin, foot mask..etc and that can vary but the above has been standard from the most expensive to the cheapest I have gone to.

I do the deluxe pedi every month and I always have to rush home to remove the lotion. I'm very sensitive to scented lotions, detergents. etc.

Does anyone have this problem and have you ever taken your own fragrance free lotion to use instead?

As a formal nail tech, the best tip I can give is to show up at your pedicure with your old polish already removed. At the salon I worked at, it was a requirement.

#1 you could see if the client had any fungus on her nail
#2 It saved about 5 minutes of removal time, which usually led to a longer massage ;)
