I've heard of it all now!

My brother's wife told their kids, the week before my brother's knee surgery, that if they "pray hard enough, maybe daddy won't have to have the surgery." What responsibility/guilt to lay on kids! Guess they didn't "pray hard enough" because he had his surgery as scheduled. :sad2:

i'm a firm believer that a lot of gods healing miracles wear these nice white coats....

Amen to that. God works plenty of miracles using the hands of those white coated individuals.

How very sad :worried:. Bless his heart, probably scared, looking for an easy second chance and was a prime target for some quack. I sure hope he'll be ok and I can imagine his wife is sick with worry.

I have very strong faith and admit to even believing in miracles, but not trusting my life to any faith healer. Life is a precious gift and when it comes to me and my loved ones health, we prefer the pros in the medical field.

I so totally agree!!

i like my dd's attitude with regards to this. a year ago at age 10 she took a spill off her bike and when her arm was x-rayed it was discovered that at some point she had an anuerism in the bone of her humerus (upper arm) resulting in the bone growth ceasing (the bone in her arm looked like a soda straw-hollow with just a thin outer casing). in the few weeks while we were awaiting her surgery to correct the issue her class would pray for her (christian school) as well as members of the church. she often made the comment that while she appreciated everyone praying that god would heal her and send her a miracle, she did'nt know why they they were talking that way-in her way of thinking the 'miracle' was that god had "told" her guardian angel to "let" her fall off her bike so that we would find out about the problem before it got worse-and led her to to the "people god knew could work together with him to help me heal"

I believe that God heals people of illnesses. I do wonder why this man wasn't testing his sugar levels. If the Lord had healed him then his sugar levels would have stayed in the normal range.

Diabetes...not so dramatic. You tell people they have to watch what they eat, monitor their blood sugar, can't smoke or drink because when they are older, they may go blind or need their leg cut off. Their response "I'll worry about that when I am older". The sad part is though that "older" eventually comesand now they are living with one leg, on dialysis, legally or totally blind in a nursing home or homebound...not a happy existence.

Diabetes...not much celebrity support. As a matter-of-fact, most celebrities hide the fact that they are diabetic. Did you know Halle Berry is? How about Dick Clark?

In our country, someone is diagnosed as diabetic every 21 seconds, according to the American Diabetes Association. It is one of the, if not the, largest "co-morbidities" in terms of cardiac disease, kidney disease, & strokes since it affects the circulatory system.
In spite of all you said above people with diabetes can live a good life free from the complications if the control their blood sugars from the start. I was dx'd with diabetes at 30 and with the help of a great endo and family doc at 58 I do not have the complications of diabetes. Just had a eye checkup and absolutely no evidence of retinopathy. I have more trouble from my fibromyalgia and arthritis.
I have a strong faith in God and I believe in being healed by faith but only God can do it not man. And I would continue to monitor my sugar anyway. JUst good common sense. I hope they are able to save this man.

I agree with you. If you reread my post, you will say that it says when you tell people that they need to do the things you mention, they don't because the effects aren't immediate or dramtic, so they don't always thing they have a problem.

I agree wholeheartedly that if you keep tight control, all will be well. There are very few people who keep tight control though, unfortunately.

As I've heard the story, it goes like this:

A man is sitting on the porch of his house as floodwaters rise all around it. Rescue workers come by on a boat and try to pick him up, but he says, "No, the Lord will save me."

A little while later, the waters have risen higher. The man is in the second floor when the rescuers come by again in the boat. The man says, "No, the Lord will save me."

Finally, as the flood gets worse, the man has to crawl up on his roof. The rescuers come by for a third time, but the man says, "No, the Lord will save me."

When he arrives in heaven, the man asks "Lord, why didn't you save me?"

The Lord says "Well, I sent the boat by three times!!"
