I've had a revelation! Please tell me this will work!

We've owed DVC for awhile now. We are a family with 4 kids so we've always had to rent 2B villas to accommodate a family of 6. It drives us crazy because it's so much more space then we need, we could easily fit in a 1BR. But we "can't". So it dawned on me today when I was looking at the 2016 points chart. I want to do WL next year and if we book 2 deluxe studios instead of the 2b villa we would save 78 points! Please tell me they do adjoining studios rooms, because I would be thrilled!! We never use the kitchen (I don't cook on vacation!) so I don't care about that, and I can live without the washer/dryer in my room too....no need to do wash on vacation either.

Am I onto something here???

LOL! Gotta love it...new concept, I think every hotel/motel in the country has adjoining room, LOL!

Studios connect to 1 bedrooms unless they were dedicated, so it is not that they all stood alone.

Yeah, but itsn't a 1BR with a connecting studio consideration a 2BR unit?

Yes, that's a lockoff 2 bedroom. Having lockoffs that can be booked as a 2 bedroom or a separate 1 bedroom and studio provides more flexibility.

What you are looking for is a connecting room, not adjoining. Adjoining means next to each other, not with the connecting door. BWV has adjoining studios (but no connecting door).

Rumor is the Poly will not guarantee connecting studios. So your family could end up split up.

And even if you *do* mean adjoining rooms, as mentioned above there's no guarantee that they'll actually be adjoining plus you'd have to put one adult in each studio. So if two separate rooms with one adult in each (and 1-3 kids in each) in the same resort, but not necessarily the same floor, would work for you then yes - it probably would work. And it should save you points. It might be worth trying one year to see if you like it.

The problem with VWL studios is that they are not next to each other so couldn't be adjoining.

At VB, the Inn Rooms are adjoining. They are like studios, you can request adjoining rooms. Make sure you put a "Travel with" notice on both reservations of the other reservation number and your request to be next to each other.

well i am dealing with this now we have 9 people for a 2 bed room and most can handle it but if we get a room that cant we have this situation....the other family will be driving in...so i am going to leave the youngest kid off the reservation and just get her a magic band and park ticket on the side.....i can add her fast passes at 30 days instead of 60 no big deal for most rides and she cant really ride on the big ones like rockin or whatnot....if you are not flying in or maybe renting a car and dont need magical express......you can just get a 1bedroom and leave a kid or 2 off.....

But the Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is NOT a hotel/motel. It is a timeshare resort.

Laura
That's exactly my point Laura, I've got more flexibility with a $99 motel then I do with my "timeshare resort" If you have 4 or more kids your choices are very limited. When you've got small children under the age of 5, you should have the ability for fit in a 1BR if you decide that would work. The last 2 trips in our 2br, we never even used the room with the 2Q beds and bathroom. Now granted, 5 years from now I'll be singing the praises of Kidani's 2BR units with 3 full baths. But right now its just a waste of space and my points!

I think because the DVC 2BRs have a king bed in a room by itself, it really restricts the number of guests in a villa and many members love the king beds. The more inexpensive hotels usually have a couple of queen beds plus a pull out couch, basically all in the same room with a half wall or pony wall dividing the couch from the bedroom area plus an ordinary bathroom near the entrance that only one person can use at a time.

If DVC tried to sell rooms that are essentially hotel rooms only (think PVB studios), would members be rushing to buy them? It remains to be seen with PVB just starting sales this month.

Considering our last few stays in a VGF 2bedroom, if they really wanted a higher occupancy they could have. There's TONS of room in the master bedroom. They could replace the arm chair with a sleeper chair and the same in the living room. That would mean 7 in a 1bedroom, 11 in a 2bedroom dedicated, and 12!!!! in a 2bedroom LO. Then even less people will reserve the grand villas. :goodvibes

Isn't capacity regulated by fire codes based primarily on square footage and not by bed capacities? Did I miss a piece of this conversation?

If that was true then wouldn't the cheaper hotels be restricted too?

If that's the case, then there's no reason a studio and 1 bedroom should both have the same capacity at VGF & VWL.... and any refub studios at BCV/BWV with the new murphy beds. 1 bedrooms have much more square footage than studios.
