Congratulations Dawn, I am so excited for you! Are you going to wear a dress? That will be fun to pick out. :)

Congrats on getting the house, getting the rings, and getting the photographers. Awesome! Things really are moving along.

And - yes - you are a great writer. It is a gift to put words together seamlessly and to elicit the gamut of emotion in your readers. You got it girl!

If you drive up NC's coast, I do have to put in a quick plug. You absolutely, without a doubt, no questions HAVE to stop in Carolina Beach and stop at a place called Britt's Donuts on the boardwalk. They have the best donuts ever made. Some magazine rated them #2 in the country (though we never have figured out where the #1 place is), but they honest to goodness melt in your mouth. It's the same recipe they've had since they opened in the 30s, and only two people know it. They use all the same equipment, including the old cash register, and only open March through September. So, seriously, if you want just the most awesome donut you've ever had...stop there.

I have to second that about Britts. We have a place at Kure Beach and love to get doughnuts there. Hands down they beat Krispy Kream. Now back to your T. s0 I can catch up.

Congrats Dawn! So excited for you!! :goodvibes

PS do you really want details of my Europe trip? I can PM you the details, this has taken me 3 years to plan. :)

Day 1

DSCF6900.jpg

This my friends again, is Leah. Our neighbor and Carsyn’s best friend. The girl who braved untold hours in the Booger and a family trip. When she brought over her pics for me to download, I found the daily countdown. She explained that she did a countdown on her hands so she would know the following pictures happened on which particular day encase she forgot later on.

Smart girl.

It also made me wonder what else I was missing out on because although indeed on this day she took pics at her home, other days she was with me so how did I miss that? It was great fun looking at our vacation through her eyes and she has some great shots that I did not have or Carsyn so you all will be blessed or cursed, (depending on how you feel about vacation pictures) with sometimes 3 different viewpoints on Charleston!

I was realistic that day. I knew I was not prepared at all for the trip.

Not at all.

I had done no pre-packing.

I had no totes of awesomeness to finalize and a goody cooler to add ice to.

In fact this trip we decided to use our new to us, recently purchased at the church garage sale, plugs into your car so it needs no ice, handy dandy, cooler that can take hot foods to Grandma’s in Saskatchewan and sill be warm or to Uncle Thaddeus’s igloo in Alaska and still be cold. I was really excited to save on purchasing ice and since I was bringing only basics from home, we did not need no stinkin big cooler! pirate:

I sent Carsyn to Taj Ma Walmart and asked her to buy yogurt, sandwich essentials, dog food and a few things we would need for our trip before we got to Charleston. No sense on eating on the road and giving our gastrointestinal tract gut rot at McD’s. Such a good Mom am I!

Treyner had picked up the Uhaul the night before and the man of the house informed me he thought his jeep would do just fine hauling the U-haul and there was no need to switch it to the Booger for transport a bazillion miles.

He also explained that the ball on the Booger was too small to carry such an amount of poundage. Instead of buying a new ball he had a bigger one on his Jeep and again, rather than listening to the U-Haul lady when she said fully loaded, that U-haul trailer would be heavy and indeed, not able to be pulled well by the Jeep, he explained he was just fine.

I said it was the Booger. It was old, rusted out and looked like it had been around the block or two. That if it had ever hauled anything before we were the owners, than the small ball had done okay before for a boat, jet ski’s, travel trailer, snowmobiles etc. and I had more faith in ole snotty than his Jeep.

I was told that I was not a decision maker in this department and it would be fine. I asked if he had indeed taken the travel insurance and he advised that he had double checked his insurance and there was no need for the extra insurance through U-haul. That if there was a mishap, he would be covered and so would the contents of his vehicular device and the trailer.

Okay big boy. Mr. A-dult. You are good to go Tom Cruise. Your runway is cleared for takeoff and you are a man who will deal with the result, good or bad. :teacher:

I have learned as a Mom to give them rope. To let themselves learn now while I can still fix the small stuff with them. Some people would have insisted on their way. I do with some things but he is in his own apartment now. He is the same age I was when I had him. If I could make mistakes and yet have this magnificent man as a son, he can fall down a few times along the way and it will be good for him. Builds character I think! That and great entertainment for Mom! ;)

So Treyner, who had been up to his throat in homework and summer classes since mid June, had indeed, been on the computer until 11 p.m. the night before getting last minute things in for his sadist History teacher. He had a few friends stop by to say goodbye and that was his sendoff. Needless to say he was up that Thursday morning, packing a room that had not been packed and getting a mattress/box-spring out with Baylor’s help, loading his scooter, kitchen boxes that were pre-packed ahead of time and in general, panicking at how much stuff he had to do since he had not touched his room at all to get it ready.

Perfect example of him not heeding Mom’s advice but the one thing I will say is that he also did not blame anyone or take his frustration out on anyone else besides himself. He managed to hit his melon on the top of the U-haul several times that morning in his haste to pack in the 95 degrees and 100% humidity. I have to admit I was snickering a wee bit at his fast paced haste. You see it had rained all morning and it was nasty, thick, hot air in the garage which he had backed his U-haul up to. Just miserable. But I did not mention I had thought packing some earlier would have been beneficial and had told him so more than than a few times!:rolleyes1

Who did mention it was Baylor, because he was under the brother clause. :scared1:

You know the one that says if you do not do what I say, I will give you a wedgie so hard you will have a cleft in your chin even if God did not give you one to start?

Yeah that one.

So I made leftovers for lunch and they ate and otherwise, they were busy.

We also got two tents with, blow up mattresses, sheet sets and blankets, a grill, lanterns, games, utensils and plates etc.

We were camping this trip so we needed a lot to haul in the booger. I told the kids to pack light and they each had one duffel bag. Some more light than others…ahemmm..choke…Carsyn…sputtter…cough! princess:

We had a few last minute things to clean and load in the Booger, Leah of course was ready early (or on time ;)) and decided she would give the Booger a last minute vacuum and Windex the windows! I did make sure she was aware that this was beyond nice and yet would still, in the end, result in merely a more cleaned up version of the Booger. It would not perform miracles and happen to turn it into a Rolls Royce conversion van! She said she still wanted to and I love her for her generosity and willingness to always just chip in when something needs to be done!

It was nearing 4 p.m. and we were finally all ready to head out. I was really excited to hit the road and get to Cedar Rapids area where we were bunking for the night with Dan who had been out of town for a week already. It was about a 4 ½ hour trip so we should be there before 10 p.m.

The only real stress came from the fact that when Treyner was going back over his computer assignment sheet the History teacher had for the class, he realized in the midst of all the changes the professor had done for the class and hours of assignments he had put up, then taken down, there was one test that was missed ! Now Treyner had an A in that class and so I told him to call the prof, beg forgiveness, explain it was just an oversight and see if he would be willing to re-open the test. Treyner was originally of the mindset that he missed it and as such, would simply be stewed. Again, I explained he had done the final early, not missed a single assignment, and often a teacher is going to be more understanding of a student who is trying to move across country, finish schoolwork and might have happened to miss one thing amongst 75.

So this time, my son listened to me. He swallowed his pride and low and behold, the prof was very understanding. In fact said that he would give Treyner until Sunday to get it in so he could move his stuff to S.C. without stressing over it. Treyner got off the phone and was so happy I can’t even begin to tell you. Two lessons he learned that day.

#1 It pays to be a good student because everybody makes mistakes and when you need understanding, the first time will be easier on you than if you were a D student and a already frustrated prof has to deal with your problems.

#2 Your pride will stand in the way of great things. Everybody needs a little help once in a while and not asking is where you show your stupidity, not your machismo.

So with that, we were on our way!!! Said goodbye to the dogs minus Kizzy who was coming with and locked up the homestead.

Baylor and Treyner were in his Jeep with Leah, Carsyn and I in the booger. Plenty of room and nobody was crowded. Carsyn intended to drive the first leg with Leah as her co-pilot so I settled in the back for a nap.

Within 15 minutes of leaving, a call came into my phone. :headache:

“Mom?”

“Yes, my oldest and most trying of sons?” :confused3

“I think we need to stop and switch the trailer out.”

“Really? Do indeed go on, because I am pondering why less than 20 miles down the road you are ready to bail on the Jeep pulling the U-haul?” :snooty:

“I am not saying it won’t make it but I do not want to arrive in Anderson with a suspension issue or bad brakes and this is really bogging down the Jeep. It’s heavy as heck and I don’t think it is a good idea to keep going.”

“Imagine that.”

“Don’t say anything. I know. I know.”

“I didn’t say anything my sweet cherub.”

“Just don’t.”

And that my friends is the sweetest of joys. When you are nixed in the rub in because the intended victim is already aware they are an @rse. Beautiful. God is good. :rotfl2:

So I didn’t and we pulled into a station that also had a tire/oil change area and explained to them we needed to switch out vehicles for a fully loaded U-haul.

Jim Beam and Johnny Walker with a full load of chaw in each of their yappers, looked at our sichiation and offered some assistance. They gave us blocks so the U-haul did not move and they helped Treyner figure out what to do about his small ball problem on the Booger. :lmao: They showed him how to attach the chains to the underside of the van and with that the understanding if we had a problem, the U-haul was not breaking away without taking the underside mounting dealio with it.

(Leah BTW was a bit concerned Treyner might throttle her as we were laughing at him and his by choice predicament and she was playing Paparazzi!)

Sweet. So if the trailer goes the Booger goes.

I can see my epitaph now:

Death by U-haul via Booger.

Just what little girls dream of.

I wondered if Julia Roberts would play me in the Lifetime movie of it? :rotfl:

Probably not. She is a bit too big of an actress for that role. Maybe Marissa Tome? She has not done anything I think since, “My Cousin Vinnie,” and could lend some pivotal skill to the role yet depth to my persona.

My luck would be I would get cheap producers and be played by Snookie.

Anyway, where was I?

Oh yes, the Booger and the U-haul are now one. This left a dilemma that Treyner was none too happy about.

You see he does not let anyone drive his Jeep. Anyone. So he now was needing to drive the U-haul because that meant there was only me over 18 to pilot the Booger and he did not trust me. But did he trust his sister to drive his baby?

DSCF6920.jpg

Carsyn was sure giddy at the prospect since only under duress would he allow it!

He really had no choice and with that, Carsyn and Leah were now renegades of the road with an American Flag taped to a whip it and some girlie stickers on the back window. Leah found this entirely funny and Carsyn said they were going to look like redneck lovers.

DSCF6926.jpg

We filled up the booger here since pulling a U-haul would mean even greater suckness of gasoline and the girls came in to see if there was any must have snacks while I paid.

Carsyn was still beyond happy about her new found role as driver of the beloved Jeep!

We came out to find we were set for departure. Here is your first official Booger pic I believe. It is as allusive as a Yeti! Now please know that it did have full silver ghettoliciousness pin-striping on it when we purchased it. Minus the spots eaten away by rust. Then Dan choose to be concerned with the rust spreading, (Really? I mean really?) so he primed and fixed and then re-painted with the right paint over his work to seal it. So now, it is a Booger who has been neutered. Taken down a peg or two in the rankings of other fine ghetto fabulous vehicles. Sad really. It is as if it wears the cone of shame.

Being hungry and no access to a cooler, we went a bit farther down the road (like 5 minutes) and stopped for dinner at….McD’s.

Yup - after planning to pack a cooler and having Treyner plug it into the outlet in the back and now having the U-haul butting up next to it, we no longer could get easily to the cooler so I said screw it and let caution fly in the wind or the nearest rest stop if urpy tummy simplex7 crept us against us.

Carsyn and I split chicken selects, Baylor got a burger, Treyner and Baylor got some fries and a yogurt parfait and Leah ordered herself a children’s meal cause that is how she rolls. Got the food to go and again, were movin right along in search of good times and treasure!
